The writers making the idea of the new summoning mechanic (weak monsters combining into something powerful) into the central theme of the entire show is what elevates 5D's so much for me. It's what happens when you put a cynical initiative to make money selling shiny cardstock to children into the hands of creative people that sincerely want to make something worthwhile.
Early 5D’s is splendid. I just wish the writers had stuck with the original plans-it’s clear Ono or Yoshida wanted to do different things than what Takahashi envisioned.
I always thought that Junk Warrior's summon chant as a general chant for synchro summoning until they decided to give each monster a unique chant, which was very creative. Im glad someone else had the same interpretation!
You actually might be onto something there. I hadn't actually thought about it that way. I just assumed they were going to give each monster a unique chant from the get-go, but that is most certainly a possibility.
Yeah, that summon chant and the accompanying animation really sold me on Synchro Summoning. What do I see? The tuner transforms into a set of rings, and the non-tuner transforms into a bunch of lights that align within the rings. It really stuck with me - gave me the impression that Synchro Summoning basically creates a wormhole, then sets up a series of guiding stars for the summoned creature to follow. A stronger tuner? More "support struts" within the wormhole and a clearer path. More guiding lights? Easier navigation through a less stable pathway. That's my headcanon for Synchro Summoning now.
Speaking of the sub line, in Duel Links, Junk Warriors summoning chant was changed to "Even the tiniest scrap has value, and this monster will prove it, Synchro Summon!", while this line was given to Shooting Quasar Dragon summon chant "I'll rev it up to blast through my limitations. The stars unite to brighten the future, form the road of light! Limit Over Accel Synchro!"
Each of the characters has a signature theme for their chants based on their personalities e.g Yusei's always start with clustering or gathering which is based on his desire to unite people and ends with becomea the path its light shine upon whereas Jack has ruler based on his desire to dominate and his status as king
I love that Junk Warrior is the first and also last Synchro monsters that Yusei summons in the series. Also i'm so happy that the original Yusei Battle ost just got uploaded here on youtube after 15 years of being considered a "lost media".
I'll try to come up with a topic for another one. Lol. I'm not exactly the best at these kinds of videos. This was just a random thought that popped into my head one day.
Zexal does something similar for astral and yumas joining, how two souls become one and how that is the power of zexal, it’s literally them joining their souls to become someone better than themselves, hence the shining draw power.
As someone who's favourite Yu-Gi-Oh show is Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal, I'm sad to say Zexal barely utilizes summoning chants at all. The generic chant for Xyz Summoning is "I build the Overlay Network" which we never get lore about what the Overlay Network actually is. Later down the line, Utopia Ray Victory's summon chant mentions "Overlapping thoughts" which might be a reference to Xyz Summoning, but it's also like 60 episodes into the show when this card first appears. What I do like though, is that for F0 Utopic Future, essentially Yuma's Shooting Quasar Dragon, the chant has a lot of references. "Appear now, Future Numbers 0! Pegasus, be unleashed here and now, and run free as the wind into the future. This is my Creating Heaven And Earth! My Future! I do Kattobingu! King of Future - Hope!" Pegasus in Japanese is "Tenma" which the kanji is a reference to the "Ma" in Yuma's name, meaning horse. "Creating heaven and earth" is weird in a sentence, but it's essentially a Japanese saying; "Tenchikaibyaku" which is a word used in the chorus of the first ever Opening song of Zexal, and the final word in the song. As for where to watch it, "anicrush . to" without the spaces has both seasons, Zexal and Zexal II.
Thank you! I took a year of it in college. Never thought I sounded that great, but I'm glad I'm coming across okay. 5Ds is hands down the best Yu-Gi-Oh series they ever made. I definitely feel like VRAINS was a close second. Maybe I'll make a video breaking down my favorite to least favorite.
Zexal's Xyz summoning doesn't have a chant like that for Xyz summoning per say, but the power of Zexal has a chant in both English and Japanese that basically explains Xyz summoning. Japanese: "When two distant souls crossover each other, a legendary power is revealed." English: "When two distant souls become one, the power of ZEXAL is revealed"
I'm glad Junk Warrior is getting some love because honestly I feel like Junk Warrior is a better ace for Yusei than Stardust, while stardust has some good symbolism showing yusie learning to not just give up his life for others but be willing to survive for other but Junk Warrior is so much better for him. A card made by a salvaging monster and a monster that 9/10 is useless in a level 2 create a warrior that is powerful but still a bit "wrong" with its asymmetrical design and unfitting parts, and its effect honestly is a better contrast with Jack than stardust having his ace R.D.A that has an effect that destroys his own monsters clash with a card that gets stronger by having them showing the desire to leave those in the past to burn against the desire to lift those in your past up with you
I do very much enjoy Junk Warrior as a card. Unfortunately, I do love Stardust more, especially with my affinity to Shooting Star Dragon. I've actually grown even more fond of Red Dragon Archfiend and its variants now that I've learned how to build a decent deck for getting RDA out quick. Resonators are so much more easy to play than Synchrons for me.
I definitely have a healthy appreciation for Xyz Summoning, especially with some of the Xyz Monsters from the anime. I'd have to go with either Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon or Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon for my favorite Xyz Monster, especially because I use Cipher Dragon so heavily in my Blue-Eyes deck that I run. Lots of fun combos with that.
It is also another way Yusei's personality shows. He isn't a 'flashy' character but he is the type of person to see many possibilities and outcomes even from cards that others might call "useless" or "junk".
No, not really everyone who got the chance to watch 5DS enjoyed it, if you ask me the thing that the fandom will never understood is the good writing in Zexal, most of the hate just come from the Yuma Dub, just watch in Sub.
