I enjoy these videos because it makes me appreciate living in Cookeville, Tennessee even more. I have access to some of the best fishing in the country in just a little over an hours drive. Watts Barr,Dale Hollow and the Cumberland river. Life is good 😊
Dave, thats awesome. Ive been fishing westpoint lake hard for catfish the last few years. I learned alot from your videos. Managed to put several 20+lbers and a few 30+lbers in the boat. Mostly flatheads around April. I havnt had success at dragging...to be honest, I havnt given it much of a chance. Thanks for your video Dave.
I've launched on several tournaments from that same ramp you were at. Glad to see you fishing down here. There are some big fish in West Point for sure, but it wouldn't be an easy lake to just show up and get on the fish. The lake record flathead was caught during our tournament in '20 at 48#. Blue record was caught last year at 61#.
One of my favorite things about Catfish D is that he travels to many lakes and rivers. Im in Georgia and honestly, I hope this helps him appreciate the TN river. So called Fort "Lousy" is better than over 95% of the lakes and rivers in the US
Well the action wasn't hot, but like you said, you did hook something . That last one was nice. It's a good looking place down there, too. Weiss lake is my favorite. Those crappies grow into slabs down there, and it's clean, too, good to eat. Dave thanks for letting me tag along, take care, God Bless.
Wow now that’s kool, if you ever want to come for a weekend I’d be glad offer a place to stay ten minutes from that ramp. It’s an old house that was built 120 yrs ago but it’s dry, has everything but a telephone.
Hey Dave I’ve been watching you since you were Bank fishing you’re in my home like I love it I got a 60 pound blue and yellow jacket November 11, 2021 Several big flathead and a lot of Stryper love you videos
Hey man. I see a lot of catfishermen on RUclips, fishing the Ohio River, and the Tennessee River, and catching some big monster 40 plus to 60 plus pound catfish. I know they're out here in West point lake. I just haven't found them yet. The section of the lake that you were fishing is mostly shallow from 0 to 20 ft. There's only a few 40 ft areas around that location. If you go up towards the dam there's a lot of areas up there. 50 to 60 ft range. Most of the fishing I do is around that same area that you put in. Maybe I need to move upwards..
Sorry you didn't have the best trip. But there are some big cats to be caught in west point me and some other avid catfisherman have reeled in some really nice fish. I've got them from 1lb to 50lb fish there. It's definitely not the tennessee river but it can be good fishing at the right times. Recognize the guys you was talking to. Georgia park is where I put in. Wish I could have been there to meet you. A 60+lb blue was caught right there at the bridge not long ago.
You need to go to Kerr and Gaston Lakes on The NC VA border. that is where the biggest catfish are/have been caught the last 10 years and still being caught, 100 lbers in both.
I brought this up on Kayak Catfish a couple months ago and just realized the same thing was going on with Dave. Through all 12 months of last year, where were the stripers? Specifically, in their home waters which they both kinda overlap in their usual territories. Seems both would at least catch one a trip if not several. And they both were full time last year. Not saying that I want to see them caught, I do like seeing them every once in awhile. Just out of curiosity sake
Catfish Dave I need you input. Should I be checking my bait when I get a bite or should I just let it sit there. It seems like a simple question, but when you are fishing it makes you wonder what to do. I hope you have a great season out on the water. Be safe and keep Jamming.
What I do is let it sit there for no more than 2 minutes. If nothing else happens reel it in to check your bait. If the bait is gone put fresh bait on and throw it back in the same place. If the bait is still there throw it in another spot. Good luck
I would like to see you come to Lake Wedowee / R L Harris Resevior in Alabama it is between Wedowee and Lineville AL I fish here a lot it is close to where I live the biggest flat head I have caught was 9# but I know there is bigger ones in there.
I grew up on that lake and never really thought of it as a lake for catfish. Great for crappie, bluegill, bass, and definitely stripers and hybrids---but catfishing just wasn't a big thing there.
Fish the river side of Jackson lake anywhere from where the south and yellow come in to the point or go to Oconee and Sinclair those are the Ga lakes that are hard to beat for sure!
Can you use 10/0 hooks for any size catfish? The reason why I'm asking is because I've ordered those chunky jumbo rigs and they come with the 10/0 hooks. I'm trying to get into catfishing because I'm mostly a crappie and bass fisherman.
I’ll take a stab at your question. Yes you can but of course the gap size of the hook should be matched to the size cats expected. A 5/0 is plenty for most fish using moderately sized baits. 10/0 can catch any size but you may want to downsize if expecting smaller fish. If you’re getting lots of bites without hookups I recommend downsizing your baits and hooks… unless you are losing what feel like large fish then you may want to go larger. The way a hook is rigged also makes a difference. For suspended baits I usually prefer larger hooks because of the tooth patch. I hope this helps.
If your mission now is to travel and investigate new bodies of water, don't overlook the midlands of South Carolina. Murray, Monticello, and Greenwood all have big fish potential. I'm a striper guide here on Murray, and we have landed plenty of 30-40 pound blues plus a flathead north of 80 while striper fishing. I can share pics. Food for thought.
Big red arches in key areas are usually catfish. The depth finder pics up hard surface in one color and soft in another color. Catfish show up as red arches.
Hello! I like your videos. Good times gone fishin!
Dave, You can never keep a Good Catfisherman Down. Lets Fish. God Bless

You and Hagen Grubbs need to team up on the Ohio River. I love when you have other people from the catfish scene on your videos.
I always enjoy watching your channel Dave.
Thanks for the video Dave, enjoy watching you visit all these different places. Good luck and have FUN !
I was starting to wonder if this was a silent movie from 1930
Great video man, love it ! Your friend from Tennessee
Great shows keep up the good work be safe my friend

Oconee and Sinclair are where the records have been coming from. Those boys are playing in the kiddie pool sending you there. lol
I agree. Oconee, Sinclair, and Jackson have arguably the best catfishing in GA. New flathead record out of Oconee this past week.
I like all of your videos, I'm learning a lot from them . Unfortunately I don't have a boat so all my fishing is from a bank or pier.
he has a a lot of older videos bank fishing
Bank fishing can be the most relaxing.
There's only one thing you need to learn,
and that's how to cast
six miles.
Wow now that’s kool, if you ever want to come for a weekend I’d be glad offer a place to stay ten minutes from that ramp. It’s an old house that was built 120 yrs ago but it’s dry, has everything but a telephone.
Thanks for sharing, what length of pole do you recommend?

You should try Clark hill lake (lake Thurman) South Carolina and Georgia border lots of big blues in that lake!
You need to go to Kerr and Gaston Lakes on The NC VA border. that is where the biggest catfish are/have been caught the last 10 years and still being caught, 100 lbers in both.

I'm thinking they'll hit again and let it sit. Only to find out I've been fishing with a bare hook.

Fish the river side of Jackson lake anywhere from where the south and yellow come in to the point or go to Oconee and Sinclair those are the Ga lakes that are hard to beat for sure!

Enjoyed your video 👍
Come on a few more hours south and fish below the dam here at Ft Gaines, it's below the lake you fished last year in Eufaula
Is that a new rod and reel you are using in the middle?
Is everybody and his dog following you around the lake?
Let's go , I'm ready to catch some big ones.
That lake will humble you. It can be hard to get on fish. If I have a choice on fishing chattahoochee river, I prefer further south.

Big red arches in key areas are usually catfish. The depth finder pics up hard surface in one color and soft in another color. Catfish show up as red arches.
