My parents were at the live radio show the day Lou's son died. My mom said it was heart breaking to hear the news but was impressed on how Lou still "Went on with the show".
I grew up in Paterson, NJ, Lou's hometown and even went to the same church he did when he lived there. He is an icon there and well remembered by the town. My family used to watch their movies on Sunday Mornings on WPIX 11. I introduced my sons to their sketches and they loved them. It's amazing the timing that these guys had and how they could entertain on a dime when asked. I still laugh every time I hear "Who's on First". Lots of good memories growing up watching them on the TV. RIP Bud and Lou you will always be remembered.
I lived one town over from paterson for awhile. I loved the statue of him there. They are my fave. Watching them every Sunday on WPIX 11 with my dad is now a special memory. ❤
Tim, I am from Fairfield, NJ. What is the name of the catholic church. Also, is the house that Lou Costello grew up in on 33rd street still there? Is the Lou Costello memorial Park anywhere near the county Courthouses by Hamilton and Grand Streets? I would like to visit these sites someday.
They don't make comics like these two anymore.......no filthy language or innuendo, just pure comedy genius the likes we will probably never see again.
Wonderful documentary on Bud and Lou! The were a part of my childhood and always a favorite whether on the TV show or their movies! There will never be another like them! Thanks for posting!
I'm 77 & watched the Abbott & Costello t.v. show when it was first on, ca. 1952, as a 6 year old & loved it! However, they did repeat their vaudeville routines very often, in both their films & television show & rarely included newer material! But, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing their movies in the 1950's, until Lou's untimely death at 52! Having a child myself, who is now 52, I now realize how young Lou was then & how America lost him too soon ! R.I.P.Lou & Bud!

I always loved watching their movies when I was a kid and I still enjoy watching them today. I had heard about Lous' son drowning in the pool but not about his daughter Carole. It saddens me that someone whose life was bringing laughter and joy to his fans had suffered loss as well. My thoughts and prayers to his surviving daughters. Abbot and Costello will always be the funniest comedy duo.
These were the days of good clean comedy. Lou and Costello, Chaplin, The Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era. Wonderful and informative upload. 🕊️🙏❤️
Carole Costello died in 1987 from a stroke. This sad event devastated her father , Lou. Nearly 30 years after HE died? Yeah, something's not adding up.
I was surprised that Lou Costello's last acting appearance was on the show Wagon Train. He was very serious and played a drunk. I was amazed of his performance. I don't remember the name of the episode.
*Fact correction on the baby’s drowning: Lou Jr. drowned in WC Fields’s pool. Fields was the next door neighbor and was so devastated at the situation, he subsequently sold and moved away from the house where the incident concerned. This is from WC’s book, written by his long time girlfriend.
There's an obscure bio starring Buddy Hackett as Lou and Harvey Korman as Bud called Bud and Lou.I. It's very sad. Their Who's On First routine is very close to the original. And Buddy actually sounds and acts like Lou.
2 great men. Both had tragedy in their lives . They were not perfect, but they made us happy. Nobody's perfect. In heaven now, performing for everyone!!
As a child I watched the TV show the two starred in and on Saturdays the local channel always showed their Movies which I loved to watch. This really brought me back to the good times.

Bud Abbott, greatest straight man ever. Lou Costello, greatest comic ever , and a great Italian. Lou and Joe Dimaggio were hero's to Italians during that Era. Had the pleasure to meet Lou"s daughter Chris in the mid 90"s, a class act. Abbott and Costello, what a team. Rest in Peace Boys and thanks.

Carol Costello was also married to Gregg Jakobson, an American songwriter who was a friend and songwriting partner of Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys, and a prosecution witness in the murder trials of members of the Manson Family. Jakobson met Charles Manson in 1968 through Wilson and became friends with him, eventually paying expenses for Manson to record some of his own compositions...
The first movie I ever went to was "Abbott And Costello Meet The Mummy" . I was 4-5 years old and the time, and enjoyed it until The Mummy appeared on screen, when I got so scared I ran up the theater aisle and hid in the lobby....didn't see it again until I was a teen and it came on late-night TV. Always enjoyed their 50's TV show and other films.
I believe that the Costello family moved to Encino after the IRS audited Bud and Lou's tax filings. Lou and Bud were both financially devastated by the audits, and they both were forced to sell assets to pay back taxes on income. Lou had to sell the Longridge house, and I believe that is when they moved to Encino.
Abbott and Costello's show was on radio when Lou's son died. Everyone in Hollywood offered to go on for him that night but he insisted on going on saying his son was going to be listening to him that night.

I went to Calgary catholic cemetery to visit his grave. I found his grave. I found out it was wrong. There are 2 Lou Costellos at the cemetery. Lou is buried in the mausoleum using his real last name: Cristello, I think.
I remember watching Abbott & Costello on Saturday afternoons along with the Marx Brothers, The Bowery Boys, Gene Autry, Ken Maynard, Roy Rogers & Dale Evans. Hard to believe Carole Costello had singer and actor Dean Martin for a father in-law. Sadly, both of Bud Abbott's children have passed away. Billy died in 1997 and his daughter Rae Victoria Wheeler passed away in 2021 at age 79. The obituary mentioned that her late father was Bud Abbott of the Abbott & Costello comedy duo.
I remember about 25 years ago our daughter called us on her 20th birthday -which was themed as an 50's party - to tell us she had just seen the 2 funniest people she had ever seen. They were using old videos as a back ground to the party and she went into great detail to explain to us hoe they had made to movie look old by shooting it in Black and White. Staci said she almost peed her pants when she hears Who's On First. And she asked us if we had ever hears of them? she could not remember their names but she did remember the fat one kept calling out Hey Abbot. My wife and I almost died laughing by her question. She is now 45 and has developed a fetish for watching old movies and old British movies . I guess we were able to pass on some history to one of the girls at least. Sure warms out hearts when ever my wife and I get to watch one of their movies....or one of the Francis the Talking Mule. Hollywood just not make movies like that any more sadly a lost art of basic old funny slap stick
I was aware of his son's growing but not the early death of his daughter. In 2006, to commemorate his 100th birthday, one of the daughters, probably Patricia, toured the country presenting her dad's life, sharing stories and memorabilia and things to buy. It was a fun event to attend. She would have been 70 years old, but looked very good.

I love Their Movies my 2 favorite being Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein and Abbot and Costello Meet The Mummy as for their skits I can listen to Whose on First All Day Long
I was curious to watch this video because Lou Costello's treatment of others has been very well documented. His feud's with Bud Abbott were mostly about money because Lou believed he was the "talent" in the act and deserved the lion's share of their earnings. It was a tenuous relationship. His hard hearted demeanor towards most people softened considerably when around children. Even those who despised Lou Costello acknowledged that he was a loving and devoted father to his children and was very kind to kids in general.
Well, whatever you read was wrongly documented. Lou and Bud were very competitive but were closer than brothers. Two men who for twenty-six years spent more time with each other than they did with their wives so yes, they argued, and fought but remained close until Lou's death which nearly destroyed Bud. Lou's generous and benevolent acts, from opening his home to military, raising $85mm during a physically draining war bond tour in 1942 to paying for the surgeries and medical treatments of people he never met all pay tribute to who he really was. Cheers.
@@MrSnappinit Ok. I mean, I'm not going to argue. I've read/heard it from numerous sources and the Lou/Bud relationship was always consistent as was Lou's treatment of others with the notable exception of his kids and children in general. I think Lou Costello was somewhat of a complex man with different sides...but perhaps he's the saint you purport. I hope he was.
@@kevinfessler6831 you might be getting him confused with Jerry Lewis....but anyway, as with many comics, Lou probably suffered from depression, especially after his infant son died which I believe was a drowning in the family swimming pool?... also Lou was a great dramatic actor, which was showcased in a Wagon Train episode..he played a character who was drunk and he did it so well that after that people actually believed he was an alcoholic....
@@alpha-omega2362 I'm not getting them confused but yes, Lewis was an EXTREMELY difficult man to work with. Martn & Lewis also had their issues because quite frankly it was almost impossible to work with Lewis and maintain good relations. It's amazing Dean stuck it out for as long as he did but the money they were pulling in was something to behold.
Carol and Craig Martin were never married although they lived together for many years. Carol passed in 1987. Lou had been gone for nearly thirty years at that point in time.
Lou Costello was dead long before Carole passed away. A bit of trivia that you didn't include is that Lou Costello helped Dean Martin launch his career. Lou Costello also paid for Dean Martin's nose job.

I'm a really big fan of Abbott and Costello .I grew up on their TV show. Also i own all their movies .There will never be another Abbott and Costello.
Beautiful words, thank you for your message for Abbott and Costello. May they find peace 🙏
I was lucky to be born to grow up with some great entertainers! Not like today.
And why is Crystal Bernard the face for this bit of trivia video?
I have the same question.
Why do you have a picture of Crystal Bernard in the thumbnail?
I am still a big fan ☺️
We're very happy to know that you're a fan of Lou. May Abbott & Costello find peace 🙏
Lou is in The Sopranos too. Not bad, boy.
How could Lou have been heartbroken by Carole's 1987 death when Lou died in 1959?
Why is Crystal Bernard s photo on the thumbnail?
Am I crazy or is that the girl from Wings on the thumbnail? Is she related to Costello?
Carol and Craig Martin were never married although they lived together for many years. Carol passed in 1987. Lou had been gone for nearly thirty years at that point in time.
Pls do a video on the grandchildren of Lou Costello
Great suggestion, thank you! We won't promise you anything but we'll definitely look into it. Watch out for our next video!
Carole was involved with Dean Martin's eldest son Craig.
tentara concertar os erros, e as brigas do passado, é pra disfarçar a verdade

Thanks for watching! We're glad to know that you love our video. If we may ask, what other types of video would you like to see on Facts Verse?
Lou Costello was dead long before Carole passed away.
A bit of trivia that you didn't include is that Lou Costello helped Dean Martin launch his career.
Lou Costello also paid for Dean Martin's nose job.
My favorite, abbot and Costello. Meet Frankenstein the Wolfman
And Dracula.
Not Lou's Daughter. That's Crystal Bernard from the TV series WINGS.
Abbott and Costello were my favorite comedy team (alongside Laurel and Hardy). Much more so than The Three Stooges (in my opinion).
