I own the 260 and the 460, its a deadly combo. I use the smaller saw for most of the felling and limbing and then I use the big saw with a 25 inch bar for bucking, this lets me stand up straight and is a real back saver. I suggest getting the matching falling spikes for your saw, when your dogging in it helps keep the bar straight.
Ray Duerksen I agree I have the 461 and put stihl stock dogs on it they don't have one that matches the one that comes with the saw on there you have to buy 2 fr9m stihl but we'll worth it.
When I bought my 460 I had the dealer mount west coast falling spikes and also a 25inch bar instead of the 20 at no extra charge, they even threw in a saw case which I had to modify slightly to fit the saw.
Those 046 are impressive. The power to weight works out welI, kind of like the 044s. The older 041 and 044 were very popular here in the PNW at one time for good reason. I had a 066 for a few years but never warmed up to it like the 046. The extra weight of the 066 was a to bit much for me. So I sold the 066 and kept the 046. I bought my 046 new around 1999 with a 32" bar when I was working on some big maple trees at my house. Down the road I also got a 24" bar for it.
Very good saw it's always nice having a saw that is big enough for noodling. I split all my firewood by hand...im not fortunate enough to have the bank for a splitter and that's always awesome when those real nasty twisted pieces show up that you could never get....great video.
Either your chain isn’t very sharp or that saw is gutless. My 372xp has been chewing through logs twice that size with a 28” bar in half the time. I doubt the saw is gutless looks like your chips were really fine. Chain is most likely dull.
I upgraded from my old 026PRO to one of the new M-tronic ms362's. It came with a 20" bar and I bought a 25 for the bigger stuff. I can't believe the power of the new saw. still lighter than the 390/290 saws but with more power
CTSCAPER dang haha I have the 461 but I want to get a 046 and compare them. then whichever has more snuff is getting a 32 inch bar and 3/4 wrap handle the other keeps the 25 inch bar
Great video overview and good presentation. I just got my 026 purring, now the 046 is on the bench for a makeover. TY
just ported my 046 got it for 150 but had to go through it
That's hitting the power band, my 044 does the same thing, I love when she sings! Trapper scotty, Alaska 044, 460, 660 working saws

You did well. The porting on an 046 is much more aggressive(produces more power) than a 460. Now slap on a dual port muffler.

good for you. "you lucked out" that saw is awesome !!!
john reilly I've got one, it's a power house! The pick up power when you depress the trigger makes the nose pop up lol
First saw i fell in love with...
the HD video quality is unreal. what camera are you using?
Thanks. I film with a Sony Handycam but I do something called color correction with the footage that lightens it up and makes it more saturated.
140 psi good compresion ?
Shut up
I gata old 044 that smokes 400 c all day and keep up with most any old stihls
I'd like to see that saw using the standard stihl chain... And you know you want to overhaul the carb after all those comments 😜
at 5:06 thts a power band kicking in
I thought it would be something like that. I rebuilt the carb after this video just to be sure.
