There’s a lot of really wonderfully versatile and sounding pedals nowadays but these benson ones are so good. They always maintain their clarity, are super easy to dial in tones, and they really make the soundscape larger, as if you were running in stereo. They’re so good. I have the stonk box and their delay and am looking at adding either a preamp or their germanium fuzz. If they were smaller I’d save up and buy them all lol
Well done demo. I appreciate that you played the same riffs with different settings; provides a better comparison of the pedals capability vs. the random noodling often done in pedal demos. Thanks for posting.
I already ordered one, but I'm watching videos while I'm waiting for it to arrive. You have great tones and great production value. I expected you to have more subscribers, but your channel is criminally underrated. I subbed to try and help you out. Great video. Keep it up!
Hey mate, cheers! Really glad you're enjoying the videos and it's great to have you on board! 🤟 And I'm a complete sucker for burst finishes, and the one on the Tele just sold me on it instantly 😍 I didn't stand a chance haha
I changed my mind on this one, so please excuse my previous negativity. I rebought it today and there's no way I'll get rid of it. I found that at a low gain setting and using the old Boss GE7, or maybe it's also the way it's positioned in my pedal chain or processing micro-signals, I don't know, but I found a way to get a sound that's indispensable to me. It's a very natural breakup that doesn't override the basic signal. I have a Greer Lightspeed and Harmonic overdrive and an Origin Magma57, and a Marshall Bluesbreaker, but the Benson get's what I'm looking for much better for a specific natural early breakup then any of the other well established pedals. I guess, If I understand it right, the Benson tries to emulate the preamp of the Chimera, so it's less of a signal overlay then the sound of an overdriven preamp. Whatever the case, it does the job as close to perfectly as I can get it,..... my original thinking was overdriven and embarrassing, to the extent one can embarrass oneself online, and that's about it. The Benson has a very unique sound and I had to play with it to see how it can be a great for this application I use a lot. If I did a video of this sound it would be quite different then the different tones you demo here, but that shows how versatile it is. Live and learn. D
Fantastic demo. Seems like a really useful pedal, but maybe too similar to my BB Preamp for me to pick one up, and that's a huge compliment as the BB Preamp is my current desert island pedal. And that Telecaster sounds so good. I have a 60s spec myself and it has ruined all other guitars for me!
Hey Jared, cheers mate! Glad you enjoyed 🤙 And I can't say enough good things about the Benson. It really is just an awesome pedal, especially with how versatile it is. If you were ever on the lookout for a replacement for the BB... 😉 Edit: and re. the Tele, I feel the same! I played my Gibson for years and it always felt something was missing, but as soon as I got the Tele, completely different story. Just can't beat that tone 🤟
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed! 🤟 The Benson fuzz is next on my list of fuzz pedals to try, and if the preamp and reviews are anything to go by it seems like a bit of a beast!
I use the Joyo American sound preamp in the effect return of my hot rod Deville, sounds more fenderish than the Fender. Affordable too. I'm excited to try the Benson. Great video. 👍
Hey Ron, cheers mate 🤙 glad you enjoyed the video! That's really interesting, actually. Come to think of it I've never tried putting the Benson in the effects loop of my amp... but I'll definitely give that a shot in future. Thanks for the tip, mate! Cheers 🤟
Be very pointy where you place this pedal in your pedals chain, and how you want to use it. At the edge of breakup, or always on to beef up your sound, which this pedal excels at (fabulous for fuzz also), place your light overdrive pedal (Klon, Timmy, BB, clean boost,... ) before it. In my case I put my Origin Effects DCX Boost before it, and wow. If I reverse the order with exact same settings, it's just horrible bees nest fizz. So watch out before getting a bad opinion on this pedal. And it's so versatile it's really hard to set it for a purpose on a big pedalboard, because it can do a lot of things very well. At some point it's kind of a waste if you use it for one thing. But depending what you do, it may need to change in the order of your pedalboard. It's also not very pedalboard friendly since it's quite wide. But in my experience the price is absolutly justified.
Hey Eric, I tend to use the Preamp towards the end of my drive chain with other drives stacked into it. However, the Benson is incredibly versatile and can be used as everything from an overdrive pedal, to distortion, or even fuzz if you can push it hard enough. Cheers mate! 🤙
Hey Michael, that's a fair question! I tend to use preamp pedals on my board because when I'm gigging with my band, I change between a lot of different amps at different bars and venues, and having the preamp pedal means that my tone is a little more consistent across performances. Hope this helps! Cheers 🤙
Indeed it does make perfect sense, except that most viewers I'm guessing are bedroom players and as such wouldn't really need one, especially with a quality amp like yours. Thanks for the information regardless.. Cheers.
Michael Eastham You’re not going to get edge of breakup tones on a Hot Rod Deluxe unless it’s set at ear blistering volumes. Using a pre amp pedal, or really any low gain drive pedal, will allow you to achieve those tones at reasonable volume.

this and the germanium boost stacked is pure bliss
amazing review! excellent approach on everything! 5 stars

Hey Max, thanks for kind words mate, and thanks for the support! It really means a lot 🤟
You’ve got a killer eye for aesthetics and a killer ear for tones- these are great man! Looking forward to seeing any new videos. (Beautiful tele btw)

Good pedal. I've never heard of them and I've had most brands out there over the years. I really like this.
Really good review Joel! This pedal is awesome, I want one now - the voicing options are endless....
Sick tone!! I really like your review.
Keep it up!
Cheers mate! Glad you enjoyed 🤟
Sounds fantastic with the tele. Gonna start looking for a used one!

Definitely one to try. Currently using the Joyo American with the Boss Katana Mini in a headphone setup. Sounds great 👍
Great demo thanks. I have the Benson fuzz and like this it is a knock out pedal. This is definitely on my to do list too.
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed! 🤟 The Benson fuzz is next on my list of fuzz pedals to try, and if the preamp and reviews are anything to go by it seems like a bit of a beast!
Sounds really good! This is another one you demoes that's on my list. You have all my future pedals! 😅

@@joelwilson7908have you tried yet?
I'm a Canadian, but I still don't call them Zed Zed Top. Ha ! Great demo, thanks!
When I was editing the video and listening back to it, I realised how wierd it sounds! Should have caught myself at the time 😂
Are you running this in the effects loop as a real preamp or into the front like an effects pedal?

Where is this in you pedal chain or were would you typically put it

Your using a fender tube amp worth $$ yet you use a pre amp? Why?

Well, it's a Fender tube ampo. Not much usable drive in a Fender. Almost every drive pedal is a preamp of sorts.
