i love halo lore because it’s scientifically accurate, there likely wouldnt be humanoid aliens anywhere in the galaxy, but halo makes up for this issue by making each race in the galaxy descend from one common ancestor

Forerunners hated their babysitters so much they killed majority of them just for whoever survived to turn into angry dust? Hm Halo is weird 😂

They didn’t. This is a common narrative that people in the community try to push. Bungie never firmly established in game or in outside media that forerunners were actually human. It was implied but there were also things that implied otherwise.

Turn into angry dust whose sole purpose is to infect, enslave and torture all life (who they now see as their great mistaken creation) for all time. Literally they are the evil "wrath of god", something so awful that the ancient human scientists who were told who exactly the flood were and what their real goal was by "The Primordial" (the last known precursor), all committed suicide.

I’m really torn on this because it’s a really cool idea but it also messes up the lore Bungie put in place. For one thing the Forerunners and ancient humans were HEAVILY implied to be the same species or one created the other. Having them be two separate species at roughly equal power who had a war and eventually the Forerunners would choose this race they fought a war against to be their successors is really convoluted. Based on the H3 Terminals the Flood’s origins were shrouded in mystery where we don’t know if they’re an extra galactic threat or if they originated at the edge of the galaxy. On the other hand making the Forerunners have a flawed society that resulted in their fall be equal parts their own fault and from an outside force is a really cool idea (it also makes humanity being free of the Forerunners influence and the Elites being free of the Prophet’s lies feel more warranted. In the Terminals the Forerunners were portrayed as being heroic and willing to sacrifice themselves to save others. They also had a utopia and just had robots do all the work so they could focus on more fulfilling things. If something caused people to be naturally benevolent and innovative/smart then not having free will doesn’t really sound like a bad thing). Also, there was the cool theory about how the Precursors dying and turning into corrupted dust was actually planned and that they’d periodically create a bunch of life only to harvest it to gain the various experiences, and that knowledge is what caused the people interrogating the Primordial to commit suicide because they could not handle the fact that they were just livestock. That is a very very cool idea and is top tier Lovecraftian horror.
I saw this video called We Were Forerunner from the guy who animated the Halo 2 storyboard and it was interesting. One thing that was really interesting was how originally Rampancy was when an ai would begin to reach its limits from gaining more knowledge and begins breaking its shackles like Marathon. Because if this they seem to go insane from our perspective and could potentially be a threat. There wasn’t the Logic Plague and the reason Mendicant Bias betrayed his creators was because the Gravemind convinced him that he has free will and that his creators enslaved him. In the Terminals before becoming Rampant they’d refer to Mendicant as it and post Rampancy they call Mendicant Bias him showing that he became truly sapient. The reason the UNSC would put down Rampant ais was because of the danger they posed and because they were in a time of war against an alien coalition that wanted to wipe them out so they couldn’t afford to have internal problems.
Another thing I’d like to add is I much prefer the fungal look of the Flood in CE and 2 over the more fleshy one of 3 onwards. I also wish they would’ve kept the sickly green glow from CE because it looked cool and made the Flood feel more unique.

I don’t think it messes up what bungie put in place though. Looking back, it’s clear that bungie had no idea what the forerunners were. There’s very contradicting lore and even by Halo 3, it seems that they hadn’t all come to an agreement. While I do think the forerunners being ancient humanity is a neat idea, I think 343 ultimately went with the best option. Humanity are the “forerunners” because they’re their successors but they’re not literally the forerunners in a genetic sense. Bungie left them in a tricky narrative situation. They basically just had to pick one of the two options
I absolutely LOVE that theory and it would perfectly explain why, when confronted with the truth, those who spoke to the primordial chose to suicide.

This is one instance of conflicting narratives. The terminals imply that humans are different from forerunners in the very same game. Besides, Spark is absolutely not a reliable narrator

The dust is more or less irrelevant, at this point. The Precursors, despite the label, are gods, and could think whatever into existence, if they wanted, and are noncorporeal, if they want. They just like to see things struggle cause it makes our consciousness more savorable when they inevitably consume/assimilate you into The Flood.
