Originally from Colorado. Born and raised moved to Vegas when I was 17. Lived in the dust bowl for 8 years. My step father and my mom got stationed here in Minot. Thinking why would I ever wanna move to North Dakota. My wife and I came and visited them in the dead of winter. Long story short. My entire family now lives in Minot ND as we are going into our second year of residency. I am proud to call this place home. There’s nowhere else I’ve been that’s like it here. The people are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. The weather is beautiful (yes even winter) fishing hunting outdoors. What more could anyone ask for! 👌

Agree with your comment about "most" retailers are in Minot. I wish we had a Cosco or a Sam's Club. There are several grocery options too, other than Target. You drove by the recently closed Trinity downtown hospital. They have moved out to the south side of town to a beautiful new campus. Also, we have a great YMCA. Most folks that move here love the outdoor opportunities, including great hunting and fishing. The school system is great. The school system is less likely to indoctrinate your children with woke ideology.

Medical care is especially stretched in rural America. Doctors and nurses who are in demand in bigger cities tend to move toward those areas over Minot, Williston and Dickinson. I think most would agree that if you need specialist care on a regular basis you’re better off living in Bismarck or Fargo. I mentioned this extensively in the tour of Williston video.

From Google: Minot came into existence in 1886, after the Great Northern Railway laid track through the area. A tent town sprang up overnight, as if by "magic", giving Minot its first nickname, the Magic City; in the next five months, the population increased to over 5,000, further bolstering the nickname.

You know, you hear a lot of bitching about being sent here but many have chosen to retire here at the end of their AF career. I would rather live here than near Davis-Monthan, Luke or the bases in New Mexico and Texas. Second choice would be Spokane but all of those are way too congested and expensive for my taste. Everything I need (stress NEED) is right here or within a few hours drive. It's easier to drive half way across the state in three hours than it is to cross metro Phoenix in the same amount of time. Less stressful too.
