    Steven's has always made wonderful affordable guns. My favorite brand as well. I like the newer ones too, like the Model 311 and I love their single barrels the best too. Great video!

    Loved your video! You are not alone,I am also a double barrel collector. I have also owned over unders, and also moved them from my gun room. At one point,I thought I was alone in double collecting. Lol . I just enjoy the feel and the swing of a well make double.,be it sidelock,boxlock,or back action. I seem to run into quite a few doubles out here on the border of mb. And Sask. Thank you for showing your Stevens. That is one I need to add to my American side of doubles. Thank you!

    Just dropping a comment to say I love this subject matter so much. Glad you've got a channel covering it. That Stevens is a beauty!

      Its a solid old gun, not often seen.
      Is quite heavy, made to be a duck/goose
      Gun of its day.. Still a great shooter today. After 115 yrs

    Cool video, I never knew that Stevens made a side lock! I learn something new, every day.... Thanks for the Info., I have and shot my dad's Stevens model #335 for the past 55+ years, and love that sxs shotgun, It's a box lock! Love them all...those SxS shotguns, esp. American made!

    That's a nice old gun. The plain Jane workhorses of yesteryear are more elegant than those of today. My father had an old Belgian hammergun that he rarely missed with. I've always wanted to get my lunch clamps on a Stevens 311 with 30" bbls. rated for steel.

      Unless the chokes are opened or tubes installed...no stevens 311 was steel rated. Lead / bismuth be ok....steel...no no

      @@kenlansing1216 no mistakes. It boils down to barrel wall thicknesses and pressure limits of those actions... Steel shot rounds are very punchy as steel needs high velocity to be effective...they are mostly in and around 10,000 to 11,000 psi....some even higher....

      @@rodsvintagesxschannel.3095 In more prosperous times I had a Stevens 311 and it seemed to be made out of better steel than my IGA Uplander which is rated for steel. Mind you I didn't break out the micrometers and check. What is your opinion on both shotguns?

    • @rodsvintagesxschannel.3095
      @rodsvintagesxschannel.3095  Год назад +1

      The J Stevens 355 was a utility grade sxs ( working mans gun ) no frills 2 3/4" chambers forged steel barrels , boxlock action with the dolls head rib extension lockup, std field loads up to 1 1/4oz would be fine... Slugs and buckshot also.
      No steel waterfowl loads...chokes are to tight. Lead shot and or bismuth would be fine to use. Have it inspected for mechanical cond prior to shooting. Check barrels for bulges or dents.

    I have one almost exactly like yours but no model number on the bottom. All I have is marked on the receiver is a little ‘v’ and the number 7624. Can you give me an approximate year of manufacture? Thanks
