It’s slight but- the art kinda gives me Sonic art style vibes. I don’t get it with all of them- but some I do. I think it’s the eye shape and the way the arms are long and bendy with large hands,like here 12:45 and the mugs of them in action! I won’t mind this style returning though it’s super cute and charming! Nice to learn the history behind it too. Wish it stayed around longer-
It could be argued that Mikey Mouse is the main inspiration for that kinda style in general. It’s telling it’s used a ton for other cartoonish anthropomorphic characters - Mario has a much bigger influence in Japan than Sonic and uses this style too
I'm just loving all these varieties of Chibi-fied Godzillas. They all bring some unique sense of style to them on various levels of minimalist to dynamic. This has a very Western cartoon yet still anime look that I'm really digging. I'm wondering how much of this version of the brand is owned specifically by Toho and if any of it is owned by the former store parent company, if not a direct Toho business. These designs really need to make a comeback, if only a series of niche merchandise.
