      I think they might open up to a new market too maybe get new buyers too. Lets face facts burning dead dinosaurs cannot last forever and the combustion engine was not even in the first cars ever made. It was only because gas was a waste product of kerosene that it became super cheap and the go to fuel. The first cars ever made were EVs and if you do some research the muffler was invented because they could not get the EV car buyers to switch to gas powered cars back then because they were to noisy and blew out black smoke which no one wanted. Now we have the most powerful cars that are all sub 5 second EVs and people are never happy. I am glad that Dodge is keeping the name plate alive and still looks like a charger. You did not have to live with the crap charges of the 80s and the second gen challenger of the 80s which was a total embarrassment that Dodge made yet they put out this and everyone is mad. I saw the same comments when the charger came out with 4 doors and how no one will buy a 4 door charger!

    Electric cars are very uninteresting. It’s got this 0-60, it’s got this dashboard screen, and it has four wheels
    And they cannot be fixed at regular mechanic, meaning you are at jeopardy of the dealer.
    And you have to stop off and wait around while it charges, where fueling up takes 5 mins.
    And they can be shut off remotely. Typical hellcat owner running from cops will have his hellcat shut off before the chase starts
    And I do not believe the mining of these batteries is any more ethical or environmentally friendly. I think it’s greenwashing

      Sodium/Ion is the way. Lithium has the same geopolitical nightmares and these greedy companies won't recycle.

      Not much to fix when it is an electric motor and battery powered. I believe it is more software over the air updating will be the future. I know working on your own car is great but most people that buy new cars do not care nor have a clue how to fix the anything so a low to zero maintenance car is what most of the new generation want. I remember when every one was up in arms when everything went fuel injection it was the end of the world when no more carburetors. Then I had to live with all the hate from when automatic transmissions was the only option. Then you had all of the hate when we got airbags and had to have seat belts on at all times. Like anything else people hate change. But innovation is what has gotten us to the great rides of today and I am sure when you look back years later you might feel differently about the EVs. I mean most of everything we use is electric and the battery's will become lighter and smaller and I am sure will have a better range my god look at how far electronics in general have come.

    • @Tropicalfrooploops
      @Tropicalfrooploops Месяц назад

      @@DYIguy it will never scale up and be applicable to 100% of Americans in our life time
      USA is very big, no company will foot the bill to install chargers in remote areas.
      EV technology will not be applicable to semi trucks, the loads are too great, and the duration of charging and location of charging stations will cause serious logistical problems turning 12 hour haul to 24 hour haul, if at all possible.
      Certain big cities do not have the capability to accommodate these vehicles like NYC. Less than 5% of new cars sold in NYC are electric
      It’s too congested, and not enough space is available to allow multiple people to sit around and charge.
      The batteries are economically nonsensical to recycle. They will end up in a landfill.
      These EV vehicles are carelessly heavy, much heavier than trucks and SUV’s……meaning they wear out tires 30% faster meaning 30% more tire waste
      Tesla’s have been ranked to have a NOX emissions score comparable to an SUV
      It’s all just bull 💩

      @@Tropicalfrooploops Sounds like when they told us that plastic was recyclable only to find out 90% of it cant be recycled only trashed in a land fill, burned, or dumped in the ocean . With tires they can be recycled into asphalt, but because Rubber to Rubber would basically never wear out like it does on normal asphalt or cement. You guessed it the Big Tire companies blocked that from becoming reality. It seems no matter what we do to make some type of environment improvements there is always some company trying to block it because of the bottom line.

The bubble burst and people are waking up that EVs are not the be all end all. They are fine for some people but the adopters will have you believe they are a one size fits all vehicle for EVERYONE. go live in a super cold climate and drive long distance and you'll see even the EVs with the "best" range fall on their face.

  • @Ruphus7
    @Ruphus7 2 месяца назад

    Not sure why everyone is crying about the size and weight. The original Charger was a large vehicle. Have you seen the specs on the 24 performance EV's from Porsche and Audi's. They are similar. And how can you say something is slow when it hasn't touched the track.
    Let's have a real conversation when we see some quarter mile times.

    • @TestDrivenTV
      @TestDrivenTV  2 месяца назад

      The ET is in the 11s. When one talks about weight, it's about how it handles and feels not how fast it is. If you've driven a 6,000 lb car fast as it will go, it really isn't all that fun as something that weighs half as much. And it often tends to ride like a 1 ton pickup.

    • @Ruphus7
      @Ruphus7 2 месяца назад

      @@TestDrivenTV again... We are talking different technology vs gasoline engines. Plus the new performance EV vehicles are designed to handle the weight. It's Not an afterthought. Performance EV's are going to be heavy until better battery tech catches up.

    • @TestDrivenTV
      @TestDrivenTV  2 месяца назад

      The key is having an active suspension which will be available here. The best handling high performance EVs we've tested have air suspensions with variable dampers and spring rates. This allows for the suspension to be taut when need be and more relaxed other times. In the end though weight is subject to the laws of physics and on a road coarse or windy back road is the enemy regardless of how sophisticated the countermeasures are.

Stellantis already announced that by 2035 the majority of everything they offer except for full size heavy duty trucks will be EV along with almost every other automaker on the planet. The factory that builds their V8s will no longer be doing so and won't ever again. Other plants are being converted for EV production.
