We’ve been feeling seasick but, in a homesick kind of way. Like a fish out of water, we start drying out and struggle to breathe if we’ve been away too long. So, to say this past year has left us parched would be an understatement.
Our boat is still a couple of months away from us being able to move aboard and sail away. Patience has never been my virtue.
And, it's our 17th wedding anniversary celebration! So, we decided to quench our thirst and do something we have never done before. Charter a boat.
Which is funny because the first thing we tell people when they ask us for advice on how to get into sailing is: Look for a sailing club near you, take a sailing course and/or charter a boat.
If you’ve been following along for a while, then you already know we didn’t do any of this when we started. We bought a boat, then learned how to sail and only joined in our first sailing club race last year. We’ve also been known to roll boulders uphill, but we don’t advise it. It’s our public service, we do things the hard way, so you don’t have to.
Typically, we don’t recommend anything we haven’t personally experienced. Yet we’ve been encouraging people to charter a boat for years. In theory it’s a good idea but what is the reality? What is the cost? Is it worth the cost?
We’re about to find out. Join us in Phuket, Thailand as we set sail for a week on our first sailing charter.

We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.

...which made me think about how long I've been following these guys. I bought their RV "Windy" in 2013 or early 2014 and sold it late 2015 to a guy from Texas, right before I went to Spain. So I think I've been following these guys since 2012. Wow!!

I found your videos during grad school, and when I was struggling through a very difficult romantic relationship where I was so horribly sad and stuck. COVID hit in the middle of all of that, but you guys remained a constant in my life. Your consistent optimism and willingness to push through any difficulty with grace and a smile was the boost I needed. I got through grad school, left that terrible partner and am doing so much better. Every time your videos pop up on my feed, I'm reminded of how far I've come, and to see you guys still doing what you love no matter what hurdles come your way puts a smile on my face every time. I don't think you guys realize how many people you've influenced and brought comfort to. Thank you both.
If one needs to live their life vicariously, this is the channel to do it on. The cinematography is really top-notch, the actors are interesting, knowlwdgeabe and pleasant, and the sets are amazing.

I think choosing the direction of the cleaner water was a no-brainer. The silty water isn't appealing to me. I like being able to see what's in the water. This was a nice adventure. Thanks for sharing.
So glad that you found your happy place Nikki. We found ours a few years back. We are full time travels/explorers as well, and having the time of our lives!
I remember watching that first video of you two rolling up to Just Cats and thinking you were nuts but at least it will be entertaining. 7 years later you have yet to disappoint me.

These guys are hands down the best sailing RUclips show online, Funny, Informative, have great camera work and are so comfortable in front of the camera and best of all zero preaching about saving the planet or talking about mental health. These guys make you want to find a life partner and go sailing for ever .
Lovely to see you back on the water
We've been chartering "big boats" (we have a 26' trailer sailer) for 12 years and its a great way to experience the nautical life. It also as Jason said shows the "wear" items on the different boats and teaches you to adapt, as we have rarely had the same boat type twice, and often had equipment and instrument challenges; but I've never had as nice a dinghy as you two had.
Happy 17th Anniversary. It's not easy to peacefully live shoulder to shoulder aboard a 42 ft sailboat for months on end. Congratulations!!
Nikki, I like your new hair style. IMO, you are, without doubt, the the prettiest woman sailing catamarans in the Pacific. Jason, you is one lucky dude.

That cave experience was awesome, I was ducking and horrified when Nikki almost got hit in the face by a paddle! I am so glad you took the stroll on the beach alone and not with 100 other people. The food store was so cool, using banana leaves to hold the produce? What a nice Charter Co., so many thoughtful items, and loading all your stuff for you onboard! Thoroughly considerate and diligent care for their customers! Those long boats with the Auto Engine are outrageous! Genius! Amazing! Great Video, you sweethearts are living the Life! Be safe, last week was my Birthday, this is a great treat! As an old Sailor this took me back to chartering a Newport 26 on Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho; depth in center of natural lake, 11,000'!
