If body bushings are worn it wears the rag joint out faster because of the angle. You have to check the pivot farther up with the boot that holds grease. I need to do body bushings at 470,000 on the body they are due. I went to a factory fast ratio box and went back to factory standard box. It felt to fast for highways speeds that law enforcement does approve. It took several steering boxes from chain parts tore to get a good one, replaced power steering pump also. And I have adjusted the adjustment screw. Replacing the control arms and steering linkage with moog components gets expensive. But worth it.
I believe that gold stripe on the "adjustment" nut is there to establish where RED HEAD placed it. Moving it voids the warranty. Also, wasn't the purpose of the rag joint to dampen some of the vibration to the steering column from bumps? Did you notice any change in this regard in your hands on the steering wheel?
Hope you didn't have a hard time collapsing the shaft out of there. A lot of the shafts just get so rusted where it slides, and those suckers NEVER want to slide again after that.

This is the first video I've watched from you. I own a 1990 S10 4x4 and I've got a few issues with my steering, even after replacing the rag joint last year and swapping gearboxes with another parts S10. Steering has some little binds and a dead-zone between movement of steering wheel and the actual wheels. I bought a Hooker shaft and a low mileage ZQ8 steering box and now we play the waiting game. Great video!
I love it, Nice video thanks. Love the L S swap. I'll be doing this upgrade next right now I'm doing my OBS to NBS master brake cylinder all new brake lines new calipers and rear wheel drum to disc conversion. I noticed you haven't done that yet definitely time for a new video dude good luck😊
You guys don't know how lucky you are with all that space to work. It's not so easy to work on a dual alternator diesel ambulance. I can't fit an 18mm wrench in there, crow's foot are necessary
I'm getting one for my F2350. Someone overtightened the sector shaft screw and permanently ruined the original gearbox. Now it doesn't return to center because it's so stiff.
@Repair and Share Garage right. I mean. I put a new red head gear box. Borgeson shaft. Wollf bearing. And it's still bad steering. Replaces my steering components less than a year ago. I'm thinking a realignment. If that doesn't fix it. Then. Maybe go with kryptonite parts. I'm over it!
How do you like the U-joint in comparison to the Rag Joint in terms of road feedback? I wanna ditch the Rag Joint but fear I will lose some of the comfort.
You know I really didn’t notice any difference in comfort in regards to feedback. I will say it is a nice piece of mind knowing there’s no rag to to get worn out though
