I bought, and returned, the Nano; the keyboard was markedly inferior to my T480s (and even to the Gen 8 Carbon I have access to), but mainly because the screen gave me eye strain. I also found the lack of ports limiting (though I do have a USB hub) and the screen should've been at least 13.3". Of the two, I'd pick the Carbon for the bigger screen and more ports, though I have to try the keyboard to see if I like it!

Best to read the Thinkpad Forums for that kind of info as it's MUCH more obvious displayed in text format. Speech is a poor way to communicated technical info compared to text.
Simply put: E: Consumer edition of the ThinkPad line up. Essentially, budget versions of normal laptops, but branded with the ThinkPad name and to an extent support. Catered towards small, medium, micro businesses. L: Similar to E series, made with recycled/upcycled parts for the chassis, but is generally more sturdy than the E series. T: Standard Business edition, made with the highest quality parts ("military grade") with a great support. Catered towards large businesses. P: Powerful T series is a generally decent gist of the P series. These have discrete GPUs, much larger RAM capacity etc for people who delve into CAD X: Xtra-portable series. Carbon, Nano are essentially versions with a bit more oomph or a bit more battery.
I got the x1 carbon after a month of dilemma between this two computers. X1 wins for me for the ports (add to the portability not having to carry dongles) and with the FHD+ display the battery life is up there with the nano.

Of course, the X1 Carbon is also offered with WUXGA Low Power screens, which will significantly improve battery life. With such a screen, the X1 Carbon will beat out the X1 Nano in this regard.
For laptops, intel laptops at least, I would never recommend an i7. Go i5 because the cooling from the laptop can actually heat up and you actually get better performance
I would always pick a 14 inch over 13 or 16 inch as a programmer. I think 16 inch it too big too heavy hard to find space for it in the bag, walking around with it is annoying. 13 inch is almost perfect just lacking this little extra. 14 is the sweet spot in my personal opinion.
Nano is truly a best balanced option for my office (excel, email, cloud-ware) and travel usage. But one of the biggest "problem" with nano is the fan position. I am a right-hand user and I am really enough with this crazy design to heat my hand since 2017! Really confused and wish to see the next year model will place the fan as it is as the carbon which then nano will be my only just-take-my-money option.

Great and very useful side-by-side comparison but I have 1 huge (HUGE) quibble. It may be just my opinion butI think any programmer would tell you an extra 13 minutes in compile time difference on the same code base is a LOT and definitely more than “not that much” as you described. Still very much appreciate you including the compile time tests in most (if not all) of your laptop reviews. It’d be cool to see a few compile timings in different languages but I’m guessing that’s probably a bit outside the interest of most of your users. In 11th Gen Tiger Lake, Intel has made their already confusing TDP Rating, more confusing. That 1160G7 supposed to be what their previous Y series was and supposed to have a base TDP of 7W. But in Nano, it can reach up to 40W momentarily and runs at constant 15W afterwards, never going down to 7W. That's the main reason, it performs similar to the so called higher TDP 1165G7.

Nice review...re: X1 Nano vs X1 Carbon...I'd still go for the X1 Carbon...ports and larger screen. Yes the X1 Carbon is more expensive but Lenovo is frequently running sales that will get you to a much reasonable price...you just have to be vigilant and patient. I'd probably go for the 1920 X 1080 Matte screen...better batt life and less reflection.

I was between a 14” MBP coming out pretty soon or the X1 Carbon gen 9 and what actually sways me to the MBP is the absolutely horrendous video and audio for the webcam. It’s the top of the line business computer and everyone is using so much more video conferencing. What else did they skimp on?
Honest review thank you
Can you make the asus nitro 5 (2021) full review?
Great video. For excel work, would you choose this over the Dell xps or surface laptop?
I tried this out in Best Buy, didn't like the feel. I went with the Surface Laptop i5 16gb **Sandstone**, the other trims are not that great. Best of luck yall.
Bestbuy don't have thinkpad x1
@@levantateyora9317 Hmmmm mines did, Mall of Georgia
What a good laptop, I wanted to ask your opinion, what do you think would be an improvement laptop if the Lenovo Thinkpad x1 extreme 4gen, dell xps 15 2021 or the new Alienware x15 2021, which would be the best and quality, I wanted a laptop for the flight simulation 2021 and for work, I am not a gamer and I do not want for games only for the flight simulator
I like my nano. It's light enough that it works well as an e-reader using the Kindle app. Very comfortable to hold when reading. The 180 degree hinge helps with that too.
Have you ever found the nano screen to be too small? I feel like windows would be tight and squinting forward a lot. Whats been ur experience?
What is the best 15inch laptop?
Is it cost the reason glossy screens exist?
no, it exists because some idiots think glossy looks good
I bought, and returned, the Nano; the keyboard was markedly inferior to my T480s (and even to the Gen 8 Carbon I have access to), but mainly because the screen gave me eye strain. I also found the lack of ports limiting (though I do have a USB hub) and the screen should've been at least 13.3". Of the two, I'd pick the Carbon for the bigger screen and more ports, though I have to try the keyboard to see if I like it!
The Carbon has better color specifications, but apparently, the Nano has better color actually...
X1C9 vs XPS 13 (9310)?
Nice review...re: X1 Nano vs X1 Carbon...I'd still go for the X1 Carbon...ports and larger screen. Yes the X1 Carbon is more expensive but Lenovo is frequently running sales that will get you to a much reasonable price...you just have to be vigilant and patient. I'd probably go for the 1920 X 1080 Matte screen...better batt life and less reflection.
Thanks Jet! Ya, I'm sure the Carbon will drop price too since the Nano has technically been out longer. If prices are equal the Carbon definitely makes more sense. Unless you're super vigilant about travelling light as possible (i can't imagine many are at this moment)
@@MatthewMoniz Yep 2.1lbs is feather light. I love my X1 Carbon even though it is only a 6th Gen version.
Plz do a review on lenovo legion 5 (2021) vs hp omen 15(2021)
When they come in they shall be reviewed
Hi Brother,
Does it have touch screen for the both laptops
Great video! Could both drive a 4k external monitor at 60Hz? Thank you!
Great video. What kind material of chases/ frame? What did they test with durability? Does it easy bend or damage when carry? So appreciated!
I have a MacBook Air 2020 with an m1 chip and 16GB ram. It`s a really cool notebook. Hardware, sound, display, keyboard, and performance in MacBook with m1 to be high level, and I am imprest with it.
But I have never been a fan of mac os, I love it much more Linux and KDE.
And sometimes I don`t see competitors for my MacBook, but now I saw.
Lenovo x1 carbon gen9 is a mega cool notebook, and I need them.
Noise is still a good side of MacBook because MacBook has only passive variant work. But I am looking at x1 carbon and it's a sexy thing.
p.s. I am studying speak on English and my text can be terrible. But I try to do better on this side.
P.P.S. Grammarly it real cool instrument))
grammarly makes you stupid because you wont know what words to use without it. your sentences are weird too. what is "macbook has only passive variant work?"
@@mohamadyusoff9091 sorry, i mean macbook not have active cooling. Only passive mode.
these days I want a 5G laptop that's small, durable and light in my backpack. I want to go to bars, cafes or restaurants to work or go to libraries or be out at the park. all I need is 5G high-speed internet. I don't have to be working in an office.
Do you think the size of the keyboard on the nano could be difficult for people with big hands ? 😅
No not at all they are very well spaced out. I have big hands and long fingers had 0 issues typing on it
@@MatthewMoniz thank you!
in my case X1 Nano only has less than 3 hours battery life
Still waiting for the g15 vid with the thermals....plz do it
I like that song you tested the speaker to, could you help me find it please!
great review thank you so much
You’re welcome !
Great video! Any input for options on a laptop to program and do some design?
