  • My friend Rob built this motorcycle with help from Oldtimer Motorcycles in Dubai. The project started off with a base R1250GS and after a few months of work ended up as this mean machine. Listen to Rob explain all the work that's been done and how they managed to build one of the meanest and the lightest R1250GS on the planet

      Was 40 degrees C heat and we were in a full riding suit...

    At 12:20 - no I don't think he needs bar risers, he just needs to bend knees more... I found that too high bar risers has an adverse effect on handling and bike feel. Rather bend your knees, put your elbows up, and try a more aggressive stance.

    Wow. That is awesome. Not just the weight reduction but the thought & process of execution. Obviously some mechanic genes involved too 🙏.
    I have a GSA 1200 rallye (2018). Given me some food for thought 🤔

    What most impresses me is that you're wearing that BMW rallye jacket in the desert daytime. I guess it really does ventilate well?

    The bike is beyond awesome but no protection doesn’t make much sense. I know he’s saving weight but damn at least some engine guards.

      he has the wunderlich header protections on though, they will hold off some damages in a slow fall/slide

      Agreed..won't stand up to a crash a stock GSA would...you want performance ..take a Rawhyde Level 2 Course...you learn to jump a GSA!

    The engine crank cases have been sprayed a matt colour, looks like a nice tough finish, far better than BMW's cheap thin painted finish ... would be interesting to see what method he used 👍🏻

    If you would replace the engine with a one cilinder and remove the front wheel you will loose again 60 kg. The need to be able to wheely all the time but that’s something you can learn.

    Great project, but I don't understand it! For example, you take a lamborgini and turn it into a WV beetle and save 40 kilos? Why?

    Did Rob remove (cut off) the Akrapovic exhaust hanger bracket from the slip-on? Can't find a GP exhaust without that bracket welded on and I noticed that the muffler is rotated quite a bit (to hide the hack job perhaps). Would appreciate a slip-on part number if one is available. Thank you for the video!

    One observation : exhaust sounds like a KTM and that is good 😍
    One question: why did you ride back to Rob instead of riding off in to the desert 😀

    You take 40 kg of the bike and then put a 120kg guy on it.
    It looks very cool though without all the crap you don't need.

    Why do this to a GS? Why not just buy the appropriate bike for the type of riding you want to do. I appreciate the creativity, but you’ve made a bike that used to be very capable on various terrains and made it a bit less useful. You wasted a good bike.

    17 stone guy loses 40 kg from bike! Skip a few meals and it does the same thing, just that you’ll probably live a while longer. My totally std ktm 1290 weighs 214kg. 7kg more.

      so you claim that your 1290 weighs less than the 790 on the scales....Stop drinking the orange juice, Bob! The 1290 comes in at 240kg...you KTM guys keep making Harley riders seem reasonable!!

      Jim Richardson , well it does say 215kg online, ahh that’s dry I see. Will petrol, oil, water weigh 25kg? Feels a lot lighter than my GS for sure.

      Weight off the bike is much different than weight off the rider when it comes to performance.
