    Hey everyone! I'm VERY sorry about the audio issues. I had forgot the camera audio settings were set on automatic gain control, where usually I have it set on manual. That's what after every cut it got louder. BELIEVE ME that is fixed for the next video. I'll also try to get all the links to the models I showed off in the description as well - I forgot to do that last night. It was very late and that was something I forgot to do. Sorry about that.

      Hey, do you know of a large format 3D printer with two nozzels, a heated bed, and self leveling?

      3D Printing Nerd can you rewiew the flux delta+

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      @Kosmi_K - The gMax 1.5XT+ has a dual nozzle option, with a heated bed and auto leveling via BLTouch.

    • @3DPrintingNerd

      @herry campbell - sure, if they send me one :)

    • @KosmicK
      @KosmicK 7 лет назад

      Have you tried the gMax 1.5XT+ with a dual nozzle? I haven't seen any videos or reviews of the two nozzle option hence my hesitation on that. I already have a Form2 which makes amazing prints but I'd really like to be able to make big things with dissolvable supports.

    Great user's perspective review and guidance at the end. Dual independent extrusion is here and BCN3D has thrown down the gauntlet for 3D printers in its price range. Can't wait to see the potential that will be realized with this capability.

    Somethings wrong with the sound, I think. It loud after each cut and then gets quiter.

      Yeah, something ugly with the audio, indeed. I have to keep raising and lowering the volume

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад +6

      VERY sorry about that, sorry I didn't realize it in time. The camera was set to automatic gain control for the audio from an earlier shoot. I forgot to set it back to manual before recording the sit down portion of this video. The setting is changed for the next stuff and it won't be a problem again - it was just so late I forgot to do my standard checklist before recording.

    it's exactly the initial thought i had, a novice would find this quite overwhelming in my opinion. it's funny how a cheap 3d printer kit from china might not be the best choice for a first 3d printer and yet a high end 3 dprinter would also possibly be a no-go

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      It's weird to think that, isn't it? Just because you go for a more expensive machine, it doesn't really mean that it's going to be better for you. Oh, Joe, I added a link to your Sigma live unboxing video in the description - hope you don't mind.

    Isn't the purge sequence adjustable in simplify3D?

  • @josevicentecivera3371
    @josevicentecivera3371 7 лет назад

    The rattle noise is because you haven't tighten the bucket thumb screw hard enough (maybe it clashes a little before arriving at it's end) It disappears if it is well tightened

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      They are tightened down all the way, promise. The rattle is from the construction of the buckets, leaving a metal tab loose when sticking through the hole it's suppose to go through. I'm going to try and show what I mean in a later video.

    Great review! I wish I had known more about BCN3D before getting a Taz 5 with Dual V2 head last year. That dual printhead is just a pile of problems, and the independent heads on the Sigma look effortless!

  • @ScottLahteine
    @ScottLahteine 7 лет назад

    You can probably reduce the PVA purge amount by tuning the extruder's steps-per-mm setting, or lowering the Flow % for that nozzle. Maybe lower the temp on the PVA to ensure it doesn't ooze too much. And you can probably use sparser supports most of the time. Cheers!

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      In the Simplify3D profiles, I think it would just be a gcode change.

    Very honest review! I hope they manage to overcome the firmware and software issues!

  • @scloh1
    @scloh1 7 лет назад

    Do the purge buckets need to move with the Y axis? I think it would be better to have large static buckets between the frame and the bed running the length of the frame along the Y axis and only need to move the flexible wiper with a small supporting beam underneath. That way you could have openings along the side of the frame for easy emptying and total weight being driven by the Y axis motor would be less (possibly reduce ringing if any, or lead to faster attainable print speeds). Just my two cents but this machine still looks awesome. Big step up from my CocoonCreate/WDi3v2

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      They DO move with the Y axis, but, your idea is very interesting...

    Nice review! What were your settings for the flexible benchy?

  • @videoscrapheap
    @videoscrapheap 7 лет назад

    Could you use something like the fuzzy side of some self stick velcro to tighten up the buckets so they don't rattle?. Stick it to one side of what must be a gap between the mount and the bucket to take up that space and add just a bit of friction to keep it from moving.

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      I thought about that, but will most likely go with some hot glue. I think it would work well AND have a slight bit of shock absorbance. Will test that out!

  • @Sinthist
    @Sinthist 7 лет назад

    thanks for the review Joel!
    I'm personally using 3DLac as wel, and boy does that stuff work wel! but to be honest i mainly print PLA.
    and in my experience the 3DLac works best if you heat up your printbed slightly when printing with pla. due to the heat it gets a bit more sticky. often for me 45 degrees celcius is enough to let the pla prints with 3DLac stick like a boss!

  • @konradbjk
    @konradbjk 2 года назад

    I am suprised with this review. With the latest firmware (they no longer maintain this printer) I cannot calibrate buildplate. I can start calibration after calibration over and over. Even when I leave the bed heated for 30min and then start calibrations. The right hotend seems to have leveling issues comparing to the left side one.

    isn't the amount of purge material related to settings in S3D? Maybe you need a better retraction setting before it changes tool, and let it prime less material before activating the tool again? Just guessing here, I don't have dual extruders myself, but since you set everything up yourself in S3D I thought it might be related to bad settings instead of a printer problem

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      YES! It's all controlled via software! BUT, the ProGen website is the one generating the profiles, and if I were to tell my mom to print a thing, she could pick the profile on the ProGen site, but I don't think I could guide her through editing gcode for layer changes. I get the feeling BCN will update the ProGen site and we'll be seeing LESS purged material soon.

    Do you think the print quality on the Sigma is equal or better than the Ultimaker 3 for both single and dual extrusion prints? Also do you the stringing, and other problems during dual extrusion prints affects the Ultimaker 3 as much as the Sigma? Thanks AA12

    Joel, I am new to 3D printing and what people print with their printers. Why do they call that boat a Benchy? Just curious and I seriously don't know why they call it Benchy.

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад +2

      Hey John! Welcome to 3d printing! The little boat is called "3DBenchy" because it's meant as a benchmark test for a 3d printer! It was created by a gentleman named Daniel Noree, and I just had the chance to speak with him. He's a good dude. ruclips.net/video/40sJ6iDlzLE/видео.html

      Cool. Good to know. 👍🏼

    • @JasonSimpson1966
      @JasonSimpson1966 7 лет назад +2

      Because it is a 3D benchmark tool that tells you TONS of information about what is and isn't working on your printer. It'll help you tune your printer out for optimal performance and get your prints looking as good as they can be.
      And since the Benchy is so popular, you can show it to about any knowledgeable 3D print person and they will be able to explain to you what went right or wrong with the print and generally how to remedy it.

    Hi, You made mention that the Glass Bed has a gap between the heater pad and the glass....making it slow to heat up. Is this done on purpose for some reason?
    I have made one to the design from BCN3D, the CAD file shows the glass sitting on the heater pad! but using the BCN3D Glass plate it sits just over 1mm above the heatbed!

    Thanks for the review. If you fix all the rattling/loose parts of the printer, is it acutally quiet enough to be run in an office? I'm still looking for a very quiet printer and so far the only ones i found to be very quiet have too many other setbacks i cant accept. How is the noise compared to an UM3 when printing? And one other thing that bothers me a bit is that they use 2.85mm filament. I've only used 1.75mm filaments for years (after the Makerbot Cupcake CNC that used 3mm was kicked out) and i would love to keep using all the 1.75mm filaments i have. Are there kits or conversions to change this printer to 1.75mm filament?

    How is the print quality and the auto bed leveling? Also did you experience any missed steps on the motors like Tom did?

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      Tom said it best in a tweet, "It's the closest you're going to get to an Ultimaker without actually getting an Ultimaker". Print quality was top notch, for every print. I experienced ZERO missed steps, though unlike Tom, I did not start with the bad gcode, I was given the updated files for the sdcard before I opened the box. I hope that makes sense.

      That's what I was thinking as well, I have been waiting for your review to decide if this or the UM3 is the one to get. You guys have not made the decision easy, this machine looks like it could be a dethroner for the UM at some point, just not sure if it is yet.

    • @tjterry6950
      @tjterry6950 7 лет назад

      Crisp high five to you for your thoughts on which one to do? I.e. Is the UM3 worth the extra grand right now?

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      TJ, thanks for the crisp high five! As for this versus an Ultimaker 3, that's a very hard decision. Both machines perform incredibly well, though, if the decision is based purely on price, the Sigma takes it. But, as you and I both know, it's not just price alone :)

    • @tjterry6950
      @tjterry6950 7 лет назад

      3D Printing Nerd not too worried about price, but if the Sigma is on par with the UM3 saving money is nice. The main thing I want is good quality prints across single and dual heads. And you happen to have both for comparison, you are my knowledge source.

      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад +2

      Ha! While somewhat true, the audio problems stemmed from the camera audio being set to automatic gain control, rather than manual. It was late and I didn't run through my usual checklist before shooting. Its fixed for next time.

    Hey, Joel. Of course, as usual, I'm a bit late to the game. If you do go back to see if anyone has added comments perhaps you can answer my question: What about the Prusa multi-color extruder kit? Do you have any idea when it will finally be released and do you plan to do a review? (I know that's like asking if little bears go doodoo in the woods, right?) My MK2S is due to ship in a week or so. I realize the question is a little off topic but there are some (lots?) of us who don't have 3 grand lying around for a multi extruder printer like this when an extra $250 or so could accomplish the same thing. Thanks and, as always, high five!

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      Hey Ted! Sorry mate, I don't have a window into that multi material upgrade to the Prusa machines. I know Prusa himself doesn't want it out unless it's perfect. I just don't know how long that'll take.
      Also, little bears DO doodoo in the woods :)

    • @tedtompkins1470
      @tedtompkins1470 7 лет назад

      3D Printing Nerd Thanks, Joel. I'm sure that Josef Prusa is loathe to start production on anything that's not up to his standards. I just thought you may have gleaned a little inside poop while at MRRF. I'm glad I didn't add the multi kit at the time I ordered the i3 MK2S. Lead times are depressing as it is but I'm confident it will be worth the wait. Thanks again. 😊

    To have fewer purges, don't print the bike vertically like a skyscraper that needs a zillion layers!

      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад +1

      But, that gives it the best detail! Purges are controlled in the Simplify3D gcode, so I just need to adjust that.

      I do have a Form 2, and I plan on doing some sort of review on it. The Moonray would be cool to try out, but I have no contact with the company.

      didn't you had form 2 for couple of months

      you have good contacts with them,don't you?

      That's true, I could make contact through them. Unfortunately, I'm behind. I'll probably have the Form 2 for as long as they will let me keep it.

    I still hate the fact that 3D Printer reviewers use Simplify3D to judge the printer. Simplify3D may be better, but it is not free. Its an additional cost. Its an Upgrade, not included by the manufacturer.
    It may be justifiable for this review as the printer is already expesive enough where $150 may not matter much tho.

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      +Alvin Gozali True, it's not free, but I get the best results when using it. I did use the Průša Slic3r when I did prints on that machine, and this machine along with the UM3 use Cura. The goal of a reviewer is to use what the printer manufacturer recommends, and use whatever it is I use and / or am used to. Also, Simplify3D IS recommended by the printer manufacturer in this case.

      This is one of those machine I would use my own money to buy. I would skip morning lattes and save my pennies to get this machine. It's easily within my top 5 of all machines I've ever used. Price is high, but it's within the appropriate range given the machines it's compared with.

  • @harrvey

    But isn't getting a free 3D printer a form a compensation? After all, it is worth thousands of dollars...

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  7 лет назад

      That's a very good question, and it's a "yes" and it's a "no". The goal of giving me a printer that I keep is so I can keep using it and, in the end, show it off more. This can work to the advantage of a company where the machine is a good machine, but this has worked to the detriment of a few companies that have given me machines to keep. In the end, though, it's up to me to continue to be unbiased and approach reviews fairly, and then, hope that my viewers also think I'm being fair and unbiased. In the case of the Sigma, I honestly do really like the machine, and I think what I said in the review (using poor audio, sorry about that) is true. What's your thoughts on this?

    • @harrvey
      @harrvey 7 лет назад

      You make a very valid point. I guess I'm so used to watching RUclipsrs "review" products, insist that they were not compensated in any way, and a few videos later, state that they sold it off at a "heavily discounted price".
      Thank you for the response. Great video as aways #high5 :)
