Great video as per usual. I have just ordered gt line s with your amazing work. Whats your thoughts on the key parking and auto parking system. Would be great if you covered as no uk representation of this part of Kia ev’s tech
Cheers. I get my car in around 2 weeks hopefully so i will do some videos. I’m hoping it will work exactly the same as my EV6 which I’ve done many videos on. Probably entitled Parking Wars i think. The system in the EV3 should be a big improvement on my EV6 2021 version. Do you have a rough delivery date yet?
Saw my first Kia EV3 yesterday evening at Stafford Services North EV chargers, it was next to a Kia Niro EV. Strangely although it’s smaller than the Niro EV it looked bigger. I guess it’s the boxy styling.
Same in the EV9 i test drove in February. I did a USB update myself before i test drove it. If it ever comes to original EV6 it will probably be the same.
Thanks! I like this car. It resolves all my issues with Tesla's design. I like the proper dash with a gauge cluster. I like buttons too. The minimalist approach is terrible in my opinion. I also prefer an opening sunroof with a retractable shade rather than the gigantic glass roof that lets the sun bake the interior. The heads up display is a nice safety bonus. This car looks to be significantly more efficient than a Model 3 Tesla. Brilliant car!
@@johnmfjw I think Volvo missed the mark on the EX30 in a few areas. The rear seat leg room is very tight, range could be better, and they should have put in a heads up display or a small gauge cluster. Otherwise, it's a beautiful and high performing car.
The GT Line S has the full 3d camera view. The other trims don’t have it. The rear camera is on the tailgate just below the rear window. The GT Line S has a camera looking down on each side mirror. The 4th camera is on the front maybe at the top of the windscreen.
@ Thankyou, we have the Niro EV, it looks as though the EV3 would be an even bigger step forward for us than you from your EV6. Coming from an Enyaq, the slower charge speed of the Niro is more irritating than I thought it would be and the sound proofing ( particularly in heavy rain) not as good. Everything else, even the dreaded “bongs” has been fine.
I know,my dealer said it was when i returned the car. I put captions on screen to say that in several places in the video. The GT Line we also test drove had no problems with rattles.
interesting test drive thanks. @12minutes when you turned on active smart cruise and the car increases in speed. etc my Niro EV also dose the same in addition about 1 or 2 months ago i now have ( no active updated done) if you have cruise set say 50 and the speed changes to 70 you get a + and up arrow ( which the EV3 has) same for if there is a drop in speed however the change in speed also takes into account the speed tolerance you set in the car mine it set to +3mph so will go to 73mph. your point of the 50mph when it should be 70. i'm on the M27 corridor and it is a constant issue. average speed limit ends @50 then you get the national speed sign. the nav will always react differently one day will switch to 70 the next will stay at 50 or some what in between or until the next speed signal transmission on the side of the road then will change to 70, i've even had the car change from 50 to 70 then hit the brakes back to 50 with in a few hundred meters of the national speed sign. it is a right pain got another 2 years of this.. IMO this is a national issue not car related issue.
Congratulations on your EV3 purchase! Which model and colour did you choose? One thing I can't find anywhere is if the EV3 has Active Sound Design like the EV6. Do you know? Active Sound Design is a feature that makes virtual engine sounds when you press the accelerator pedal for driving pleasure. You can adjust the volume and change the settings for acceleration pedal response and sound style.
Thanks for the video, that’s the car model and colour I should be getting in January. I was impressed with the 4.2 miles per KW just to ask was the car test drive model with heat pump or without as I hoping it is without as that is what I ordered
I have no idea if it had heat pump. I will ask the dealer when I'm down there on Monday morning. You used to be able to tell easily on the e-Niro and EV6 but they have put cladding in the engine bay so no way for me to tell.
Were the suspensions softer than the EV6?? I'm jealous that you have HUD, my will come without it, ordered the GT-line, top of the range here in Portugal
Ev9 shows turn by turn navigation in HUD. However, I still have "blocks" instead of cars (as per instrument cluster). I hope EV3 improvements are coming to the EV9 with the upcoming update. Well done, Brian! Thanks for the POV ride.
When i test drove EV9 in February the turn by turn appeared only after i did the downloadable Infotainment update from USB. So the very first ones out of the factory didn't have turn by turn from Android Auto.
I will do some coverage of the built in Maps when i get the EV3 in a couple of weeks. The built in Maps are based on the same inaccurate maps database that Hyundai Group Cars uses. Many of the speed limits hard coded into the maps are incorrect even when speed signs show the updated information via the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (camera recognition)
Why do have so many speed bumps on your roads? Also why have those cones blocking half the road. Is it a way to slow you down. Just asking since our roads are way different in Ontario. Great video Brian, thanks. Can’t wait till we can get one in Ontario. I like the car.
Cheers. We have many speed bumps on many 30Mph or less roads. We also get them mostly near schools where they have many 20Mph speed limits. There is a bit of speeding culture in the UK i’m afraid. The cones are where you are approaching road works on Motorways or where they can't be bothered to remove them. Sometimes they are left from overnight road works..
Hi Brian great video. You answered a lot of my questions as you were driving but what is the ride like compared to our EV6. Because if I’m to buy one of these it would be the GTLINE S version.
Ride is no different to EV6 to me. You feel higher up compared to EV6.I did spin the front wheels a bit in sport mode but that is normal for front wheel drive. If you can wait a while i think the AWD GT version would be an even better option.
How did you get the adaptive cruise control to jump to the speed limit ? I normally have to manually click down or up to make it loop through the numbers, but you seemed to do something where it just jumps to the current ? Or did I not see that correctly ? PS: For the lane change, you don't need to put on full indicator, just press up or down (no engaging) the car will then keep the indicator on until the lane change is complete. There is no need to use full lock indicator
It’s a trick that someone pointed out in one of my videos a few years back so i can’t take credit. I’m planning to demo it on my EV6 before it goes. If in smart cruise control and for example i’m already doing 60 and the speed limit is 60 and i can see i’m approaching a 30 zone i press the cruise control pause button. I then let the car regen brake in ipedal mode until it’s must above 30 (maybe 32) then push the up speed button, that then resumes the cruise control at that speed. You then get offered either the up or down speed arrows on screen or on HUD,you can then resume at 30mph by pressing the up and down arrows. It’s totally changed the way i use smart cruise control.
They only show up when looking through a camera. It looks blank to the eye. They are watching you and set off the awareness warningif they dont like what they see. You are invited to take a break and an illustration of a hot drink appears and a warning sounds. A bit of a nuisance to be honest. Only had ours a week so I will be looking for how to turn it off in the morning. We are loving the car and did our first long journey yesterday.
You can only see them with a video camera. They are the driver attention warning system. They are used to watch where your eyes are pointing. Take your eyes off the road too long and it beeps.
@@evodesseyyou can’t. But in the menu you can. Reverts to on each time you start. You can add a short cut key to get to the page where you can turn it off, but as I’m in Spain, sunglasses are almost always on in the day and it can’t see your eyes so doesn’t chime.
It’s the trade plates in the window, the shelf was flapping but probably making no noise. When we drove the GT Line lower trim (this was for my wife to test drive) there was no noise.
For the HUD, Waze and Google Maps do not appear. Apple Maps and A Better Route Planner do. So this tells me it's not a Kia problem, but a Google problem. (On an iPhone I will add)
I appreciate it’s a test drive but all those warning bleeps would send me mad, together with all the reading of menus and prodding the screen is distracting. My own 8 year old car has a screen, climate gets pressed about twice per year, summer 19C, winter 21C. Radio or music is easy to access.
You are not wrong. All those beeps are part of the safety systems on modern cars which seem to be there to satisfy Euro NCAP 5 star rating. Most can be turned off in the menus but some come back on after every time the car is started . Also this is not just an EV thing these days all cars get them if they want the 5 star safety rating.
I like it enough to order one. It feels very similar to drive internally to my EV6. They’ve already issued an OTA update for an issue where the power tailgate could drain 12v battery so hopefully no more 12v surprises.
I’ve test drove that version of the EV3 today…. I was so impressed by just about everything… only a few things I didn’t like about the car , the 2x little red lights the camera sees on the column….assume it’s a attention monitor doofer..? But what is emitted into the drivers eyes please..?
I have this on my 2024 Kona. Although it may seem an annoying bleep if you have your eyes off the road for too long, you do get used to it and I find it is actually a good safety measure. You don’t see the red flashing lights that show on video, so it probably is infrared.
@patrickh7368 I don't know. Google search is as clear as mud. These systems are mandatory for all new cars so you can't avoid them if you want a new car. You can turn them off every time you turn the car on though. On the EV9 it's easily defeated by putting something in front of the emitters. These systems are very low power. Infra red is everywhere. So in theory it's ok. I will do some more research from peer reviewed science papers.
Too many alert sounds can be quite annoying, and the overly sensitive attention alerts aren't particularly useful. It would be much better if the factory settings reduced the number of warnings, keeping just the essential ones for speed and driver attention. Another big improvement would be for Kia to ensure the speed limits are accurate, sparing drivers from unnecessary alerts when they're already adhering to the correct speed. Personally, I’ve made it a routine to turn off the sound on the speed warning (by holding the volume button down on the steering wheel for two seconds) and to pre-program the favourite button on the steering wheel for the driving assistant. From there, I can quickly disable the attention alerts-the true “terrorists” of the drive.
