We are a full EV household since 2021. Many journeys with the Kona (126,000 miles so far) to Europe and across the UK - in summer the range is PERFECT, with 40ish mins break each just right for breakfast, lunch & afternoon tea to complete a full day of driving / appr 600 miles; You wouldn't really want to do more with a family of 4. However, with the EV3 this will probably be achievable also in WINTER and with much more luggage space! Exciting car and great reviewed, thank you :)!
It’s good to see that Kia are listening to customers and it’s now 1 push of a button to get rid of the warning bongs and not 3/4 through the touch screen. I love the car. Will look forward to you doing a range test in U.K. Keep the videos coming. I love them.
I bought a three year old e-Niro earlier this year - my first EV. I tend to change my cars every four or five years, so a three year-old EV3 is probably in my future. Monthly costs work out at about a third compared to a new lease.
E-niro 4+ owner since 2021 here and its our only car. In my time of ownership its done 100k miles and lost 3% of its battery capacity, which Im well happy with. Public charging is so much better than back in 2021. Zap-map stats show over 70k public chargers now in the UK. Whats crazy is that I could buy mine for £16k now and that has to be such a fantastic buy.
I've been driving a Kia Soul EV since January 2022 and am almost at 20,000 miles. It's my only car. I've not used public charging and have done 240 miles in a day without issue, although most of the time I'm doing much less than that. That's against a WLTP range of 280 miles. The EV3 is certainly something I'll test drive when I'm looking for the Soul's replacement. The looks are fine, but I'm not sure on the interior with relatively low air vents and the poorly positioned climate screen. The one feature it is really missing is a heated windscreen to help with demisting, given the heated seats and steering wheel, a heated windscreen would seem to be something thst could help efficiency in the real world.
I also have a Niro EV and i dont like the absence of storage under the elbow in the EV3 the only option being the glove pocket which is not safely accessible while driving. I have had a good look at the car in my Kia garage and I was underwhelmed by the notion of it being a 'new' car.
@@alexchong1985hi Alex I am about to place an order but wasn’t told about a heat pump option. Will a dealer have the info as I was going to order online.
@@Drew67072 I never used the online order function to buy the vehicle. However, I told the agent I needed a GT-Line S version with a heat pump because the heat pump is an option add-on for GT-Line S only.
Looks good to me. Kia are really coming on quality wise. Had a drive in an EV9 the other day and though it's way too big for my needs it's very nicely built with top notch materials.
A good review of a proper car for tomorrow. No need for that second car, unless you need two. It's nice to see that you have got the point about cable storage. As someone who has driven EV for nearly exactly 11 years I have found that for my life style just over 200 miles winter range is sufficient day to day, with longer journeys easily possible. A two thousand jaunt around Scotland last year was without problems, whilst more local trips are a doddle. Last week we went to Milford on sea for lunch on Monday, Marketday in Bridport on Wednesday, Lunch in Swanage onThursday together with trips to the New Forest for Ice Creams. Home is in Havant. Today we had lunch in Milford on Sea, after our morning shopping trip. My two year old EV now has 46772 miles on the clock, with a current cost per mile of 1.95pence per mile. Will I ever go back to a 19th century engine design. No chance!
@@mmuller2402 Another family member runs my older LEAF which just happens to have reached 154000 kms (96000Miles) with less than 6% degradation in its battery. So yes I expect my newer LEAF to reach similar mileages with similar results.
@@mmuller2402 if given the proper charging regimen, it will easily reach that number but the car might rust away before reaching 150K :-) Under normal circumstances EV batteries never "die" as such but their charge capacity (and therefore range) reduces over time
We have ordered an EV3 GT Line S to replace my wife's petrol Sportage. We have gone for the top spec as she needs the electric boot. It is going to be the car we use when we go out together and I can't wait to drive it. Your reviews have helped with our decision and the test drive sealed the deal. I always said I would only be interested in an EV with a range of 250 miles. This car is going to do over 300 miles no problem. Love the channel. Regards
I promised myself that I wouldn't watch any more PP videos but this followed on in my feed after watching a fully charged video the EV3. Having had an EV for almost 4 years and doing over 20,000 miles a year in the UK and across Europe in my EV, you don't need to be brave to own an EV. Setting aside the environmental issues, I have saved a fortune and it is the best car I have had for my (relatively normal) use.
New subscribers here, I'm just about to jump into an Omoda E5 as my only car. It's packed with spec but a very different car to what you've just reviewed. I'd love to hear your opinion on it. I love this channel it's completely different from what I usually watch. It actually has got me researching EVs as an interest.
good range, good cars generally (KIA) been running a kona ev last 3 years as my only car, its do-able folks, dont be put off by media lies. (and thats public network charging only) This one is too late for me though, ordered a new scenic esprit alpine in black, hopefully the right choice, never had a renault before, time will tell
I did not always agree with Top Gear, but they got it absolutely right about French cars. Every few decades they concentrate and make the best, most interesting and affordable cars in Europe. It looks, to me, like we may be in one of those rare decades again (last seen in the late 70s/early 80s when Renault was great and Peugeot suddenly came up with the 205 GTI, 405 etc. as absolutely sensationally good cars for the time. Even Citroen seems slowly starting to care again. That said, I bow to the Koreans too for making life more interesting with their current push by the Kia/Hyundai siblings with things that are not JUST another take on the +70k€ SUV segment.
e-Niro driver since 2019 here, I too test drove the Scenic a few weeks back...very impressive and well sorted. Just too much money for this British pensioner living in France 😊...I'm sure you will enjoy the Renault.
The EV Scenic and Megane have the best user interface of the market. Far superior to Tesla and other. The Scenic is the 3rd generation of Renault EV. The DC charge is a little bit slower than 800V Korean cars like Ionic 5/ EV6, but still decent and on the par with the EV3. I started EVs with the first Zoé 41kwh 6 years ago, I still have it and it runs every days without any problem. The battery capacity is still at 92% according to the BMS (thru the canZe app, a must have for Renault EVs) but dit not see any different, I still have the same range as new.
I have had a Renault Scenic Iconic for 3.5 months - work Sal Sac Lease. Excellent car with the Android Automotive Native Google Maps which is a must have when looking at cars. It's my second EV - had the Volvo XC40 Twin before this - both good, but the Scenic is still better than this new Kia in my view, but the next three years should see some leaps by the time I have to renew.
I just ordered one myself. Test drove it last week in Spain. We get a mid range “earth” model without the gloss black trim and with cloth seats. I loved the highway drive assist and it’s a big step up from our previous Xceed where it forces you to tug the steering wheel to confirm you’re still holding it.
Dang this actually looks good to me. Sir Pete I believe you’ve helped Kia a lot. Your reviews on them and there overall better styling these days really get me interested in them. I think if this seats 6 that it would be a good option as a family suv for my family. I really do like this styling! Great review Sir Pete!
Thats as chunky as and I absolutely love it. This comes in top spec cheaper than a MINI SE level 3 sports pack. I mean I know Nob Bob will come in the comment claiming EV’s are useless for everyone because he needs to drive 500 miles with not stopping, bladder like a champ and why stretch legs or stop to eat he’s a total machine…..😂 People on depreciation is every car these days but at least second had EV prices have climbed due to demand, just have to watch the Car market and have a expert on them explaining what happening the last months. Kids in the back, dogs, probably a bike rack and it will be a brilliant active family Car. You can just see battery tech is marching on and if needed they will break 400-500 mile real world then everyone will complain why do we need so much Range cut the battery 😂 You can’t win but you can go for around 2p a mile….👍 Got to feel for the guys organising the media drives and they get that weather.
Your right,it looks much much better than any new Mini aceman or countryman .. I like the chunky looks of the EV3 ,it's on past with the chunky Volvo EX30 .. Volvo's performance is tempting, but so is the EV3s massive battery pack. What a time to be alive !
I have a Kia Niro EV and I love it. I charge almost exclusively at home which probably saves me £1,000 pa on petrol above the electricity cost. It is really nice to drive and the tech is excellent. However if it had been around when I bought I would probably have gone for the EV3.
A really useful bit of info is the charge curve. Do I have to arrive below 10% state of charge to get the best charging rates, or can I rock up with anything below %60?
I'm glad that this type of car is coming to market, a one car family car. We've always been a one car family, so this this is interesting. Not due to change for three years or so, it'll be interesting to see what's around then. They've killed the Nero EV with this 0-60 in 8 seconds is 80's hot hatch territory, I'd be happy with that!
Thanks for a very helpful video. Reassuring to see how well the car handles in type of dreadful weather that we're so used to suffering in UK. After seeing the EV3 at one of the UK launch events, I'm now eagerly waiting for a test drive sometime next week. Not sure how it will feel after enjoyable 3 years in an Audi Q4 40 S Line etron & not convinced about FWD but I will keep an open mind. Thanks again
4 years with a Model 3 now as our only car, and we drive round from central Norway to the UK every summer in it. I haven't found it difficult to live with an EV at all. A bit less convenient at times for sure, but not difficult. And i would bet my car has a much more traveled life than 90% of UK cars.
With a true 300+ mile range on a motorway in the winter. We could definitely live with the EV3 as an only car. Our current Citroen E-C4 is great, but the range is annoying when setting off early in the morning when you just want to get there .... Non-stop
It hits the sweet-spot for me. I'm looking to trade my 30KW/HR LEAF next year. I may end up getting a used Niro EV, but I'll check out the Leasing options on this. In 12 months time there will be all the feedback & reviews I need to make a decision. However, the original E-Niro is a lot of used car for the money now, and they still have 3-4 years Warranty on them.
I have to say I like the looks, tech and general over all presents of this car, never really was interested in an EV due to a number of reasons, but have to say this one from Kia has my interest.
We have an EV as our main car, a Honda ENY1 and we love it. We have a little nissan note too that we use as a second car but we'd be 100% confident to have an EV only.
I’ve ordered one for January and really looking forward to it, it looks good in a chunky sort of way and even on the air that I’m getting heated seats and steering wheel so plenty of kit. Kia just get better and better.
Great review Pete. I'm still enjoying my KIA Nero PHEV which is now 5 year old (had it from new), not yet 10,000 miles. Didn't fancy an all EV due to charging infrastructure and limited range but have been impressed with the 30 mile range on EV in my Nero (short journeys, charge at home and sailed pass garages during the petrol price hikes a few year back) , then no anxiety with long distance travel with the petrol. Recently thought of the Nero EV but with the EV3 coming along, well it will certainly be my next car. 👍
I have owned a Kia Soul 1st edition since November 2020 and have now travelled 50k+ The Soul has been been 100% reliable and very economical to own. Mostly I charge at home but frequently do a 260 mile trip to family living in Hastings and charging on M40 on the trip down and back has in recent years got a lot better. When the Kia EV3 becomes available as a nearly new option then I will be looking to do a deal with Kia dealer.
Great review, you always give the everyday guys opinion !!! What a great trip to Portugal, I'm jealous. I've been a hyundai guy since 2007, veracruz, and preferred the Palisade over the Telluride. And I have the Santa Fe calligraphy hybrid now, which I love !! But I really love what Kia is bringing in on the EV platform. The ev9 and now this. Side note: I'm 😊looking forward to your new doors.
I do have an EV as my only car. Its a Polestar 2 and its approaching two years old now. Generally I love it and cant see myself going back to legacy ICE. I charge mainly at home and office. My main issue is the high cost of on the road charging. This Kia looks good 👍
We've had our order in since it was first released in the UK in August, test driving it this weekend before we press the final "buy" button and if we like it we should have it by the end of November. Its a second car for us to try out EV's for the first time. I think I will still keep my big 3ltr diesel to add a nice mix :) great review and looking forward to test drive on Saturday. Nice watch BTW :)
Great review! Went to the launch event at our local Kia dealer and loved the space and interior and exterior styling - and when the time comes it would be a great replacement for my wife's E-Niro. We've been an EV only family since 2019 when our "long distance" car was a 28kw Hyundai Ionic , with an original Mercedes B class EV for local runs - so any modern EV should be more than enough for anyone that realises range anxiety is just anxiety. I'd save the weight a chunk of the cost and stick with the smaller battery version.
I think it is one of the best looking EVs out there. I agree KIA are leading the way and the price it just right. I definitely wouldn’t driving in that awful weather. Great review
An inspired coastal location for the walk around Pete. Some trick colour grading going on no doubt? It actually made me like the green colour more than I had previously thought and the juxtaposition of the wild natural landscape and the futuristic aesthetic of the EV3 notched up the whole ‘opposites united’ design theme. The car seems a great all rounder and even if the real world winter range is around 300 miles that’s still more than previous V8 Jeeps I had, before seeing the light, would do. I never had ‘range anxiety’ with those! My daughter is thinking of leasing an EV and I’ll definitely suggest this one, assuming there are good deals to be done?
If you think about the Kia Niro EV then it’s clear this, the 3 was always designed to replace it. In fact Kia have been clever in a way few over car makers have. So the new Kia Niro EV looks modern, but is basically the same car underneath as the previous gen. I think was purposely done to extend the life of the Niro EV and allow time for the 3 to bought to market. That’s why the current gen Niro EV is not a completely new car. Also, by having the Niro EV as a mainstream EV since 2016, they’ve paved the way for the 3. The current Niro EV is a placeholder car and that was always its purpose. It’s very very clever and a great strategy. There was never going to be a gen 3 of the Niro. There doesn’t need to be.
Hi Pete I got to see the car in the metal a couple of weeks ago and only seeing videos and still shots was very impressed with it. And I’m waiting for my dealer to get the demo car in so I can drive it. As for living with an Ev as your only car I have done for the last 4 years. And other than owning a Lamborghini or a Ferrari I have no desire to go back to petrol. I find the convenience of charging at home over night suits me and there are now so many charging hubs up and down the country that your never that far away from one. But with that range on a day to day basis for most including myself wouldn’t need one unless your doing that long trip say a holiday or you are Johnny rep.
Impressed by the packaging when I saw it at my local dealership, though still think it's a shame that it doesn't have the 800V/250kW charging of its big brothers. A quirk of the pricing is that the mid-spec GTL lists at £40,120 with optional paint. With the imminent inclusion of EVs in the £40k "luxury" VED threshold, surely Kia need to make that paint cheaper!
I have a Niro EV since September 2022 and plan to change to an EV3 in this coming year. Not sure I understand why you need to be brave to have only an EV. In the 2.5 years I have had the car with journeys up to 230 miles (my longest journey) I have needed to us public charging about 4 times, whilst having a coffee/loo break.
Now there's a funky looking car. I love one peddle driving with my Tesla Model 3, forward and reverse..... Lots to consider with this car. May have to watch again...Cheers
Great review, as always. I did look at this for my next EV, but wanted a bit more performance. As a current Cupra Born owner, the one car which get's overlooked these days is the new VZ version of the Born. Similar range to EV3 but with a sub 6 seconds 0-60. Now that's my perfect combo 😁
Nice review Pete and a nice car, noticed that rear window getting dirty in that rain, does it have a rear wiper, really think we need one in this country and Portugal for that matter lol.
I have a 3 year old Soul EV, which is our main car for everyday use, long haul we have an 8 year old Yeti. I've already told Mrs Z the EV3 is my next car (!) and we may indeed go down to one vehicle , as we have found the KIA WLTP figures to be pretty accurate.
Had a chance to drive an EV3 GT-line last Saturday here in Zurich (but without torrential rain)... I am looking at a 2nd car on top of our EV6 GT so surprises were the gear stick function / placement (that you also mentioned and I'm actually OK with that as gives a bit more space to the centre console). But why they changed the lane assist colours to being on as green on EV6 to orange as on in EV3 I can't figure. Oh well. But I was surprised that Kia had ignored the feedback on the EV9 and stuck to its guns with the the climate control mini screen between the main screens - it really is not fully readable from any angle without moving your head... But apart from these few peeves I came away from my test drive as being really impressed with the handling, it just felt all grown up - happy to see that this was also one of the key takeaways also from your review too...
Our (a family of 5) only car is a Citroen e-C4 with a WLTP range of 217 miles and it's worked for us over the last 2 1/2 years. But I must admit having 300+ of real world range would be great.
I think the best model in the range would have been a 58 KWh GT but I note that the GT trim level is only available with the bigger battery. I’m not convinced that the 81 KWh battery is not overkill for most owners, especially as Kia (and Hyundai) are renown for their efficiency. It seems crazy to me to price the Air at £39,450 but when you add the almost mandatory metallic paint which costs £625 the on the road price comes in at £120 over the £40k higher VED threshold which applies to EVs registered from next April. The interiors of the Kia EV line up appears to be almost the quality that you would expect in an Audi and I like that Kia use lighter and nice textured materials to lift the ambience. Personally I’m not too taken with the slab sided side styling but I will reserve a final opinion until I have seen an EV3 in the flesh - and in the right colour.
Great car! My wife and I had the opportunity to see the car at Kia HQ a few months ago now and both really liked it. Pete my wife loves the pistachio colour as it matches her phone! Nothing more I can say! 🤷♂️ I love my EV6 GT and so impressed with the Kia brand. Do you know if there is any chance of an EV3 GT in the future? Great review mate..
Thanks @petrolped great video. Prompted me to go and look, a GT Line is arriving at the end of the month. Didn't think I would make the move but this a really nice usable car. That's me moving away from a petrol beemer.
Definitely looks a good package, sorry Peter, but I like this colour, it’s different and stands out because of it. Styling - for me the front is by far the best view, followed by the rear, the side is a bit marmite, and I’m not sold…. Interiors look really good though 👍🏻
The colour reminds me of the shades of green they used to paint medical equipment in the 1960s. It calms me down. You mentioned an "apocalyptic, end-of-the-world design," but this shade of green can help tone that down a bit and make the car seem a tad friendlier-looking. At least...to OAP like myself.😆Aloha...and keep dry!
Been EV for my only family car for almost 8 years now. Wasn't so easy with a 30kw Leaf, piece of cake with the current 64kw Kia E-Niro. Long journeys aren't the best since the charging speed isn't over 100kw but they're manageable.
I like the look of this car and the range is fantastic, do you have to pay extra for a heat pump? The GT line is in the price rang of the new model 3, would you choose it over the model 3?
This looks really good value for money and with a real world range of 320+ miles, this is enough for the majority of people. [Same range as my iX] Some great EV's coming out recently ! Yeah "From Southampton to Inverness" - apparently, many ICE drivers daily drive this kind of distance 🤣 🤷♂
@@damindra - Bladder size is the range limiter, not the size of your battery/fuel tank. Most places with a public access toilet have a charging facility. So you'd likely be stopping at one of these, regardless of the fuel type vehicle you are driving.
All without needing to wee too! Some of the anti EV arguments are ever more desperate. I've got a 12 year old ford at the moment, goes about 300-360 miles on a tank, got me to Edinburgh from Birmingham on a tank. This car would do about the same. We stopped twice, once for lunch and once for the loo with plenty of available chargers for a quick top up. I'm looking forward to the change when I need to change my car.
@@damindra Driving 600 miles in a day with a suitable EV is no problem. The highway code suggests stopping every 2 hours for a break, but even 3 hours is no problem for a 300 mile range EV. In my experience, the EV charges faster than it takes to stop for a comfort break and a coffee, as per the highway code guidelines.
Don’t underestimate the importance of windscreen wiper tests Pete. One thing that another review mentioned was that small 5” display was impossible to see as it’s hidden behind the steering wheel. I like the gear knob there and a twist function as it’s like the VW ID cars and it becomes second nature don’t even need to look. Thanks
I was at the EV3 Driving Event at the end of last week. Thoughts on the car? Mega range. Lovely interior space and so much nice tech on board. Looks modern but the slabby shape may not be to everyone’s taste that’s for sure. Some of the plastics on that dash and doorcards felt a little cheap but that’s really the only complaint about the interior. Volvo & Renault will be looking over their shoulders. I run a fleet of of about 200 so it was nice to get in one of these - I have absolutely EVERYTHING on my fleet including EX30 and e-Scenic and the EV3 fares well. The range is killer though! 👍🏼
I love it, and would certainly consider it. EV only is no problem - we have two Teslas. I would buy one for sure if they made a dual motor all wheel drive version. Now that would be a fun car.
What's it like off the line? Would have thought it would struggle in these conditions. Part of reason I got a RWD ev after a FWD XC60 that was difficult when pulling out onto fast main roads.
I went to see this at a preview as a potential new car once I decide to change from my BMW i3S. I liked it in general. Lots of space inside. I quite like the slightly edgy looks. However I was disappointed it's only FWD I guess fun driving isnt' really top of it's list though I'd still like to try to see what it's like, as a family car though it'd be great. I'm still looking for something that would replace the fun of my i3S etc... but so far nothings quite done if for me. This offers more space etc than the Volvo EX 30 which was another car on my "list"... this is better for families etc, that car is a bit more sporty I think.
Given this was a review targetted as UK buyers, not sure quoting range in km a number of times in the review (excluding the overdub) is relative when last time I looked miles is what everyone in the UK uses...
Can’t get a test drive for two weeks, apparently the dealers don’t have them yet. Looking forward to a test drive, now I realise why they are offering the EV Niro 4 at a low lease price. Good review though.
There's lots to like about this car, and I'd also like to point out that the big battery version has one of the heaviest towing capacities of any of the "smaller" EVs at 1 metric ton. This is certainly very high on my list of possible new cars, I just wish that it was RWD. I suppose that it all comes down to just how much I'm willing to spend, and how desperately I need a tailgate. Because the car that is really tempting for me is the BYD Seal. The Seal is almost exactly €10k more, but I really do like RWD. (edited)
Pete what was the flashing light behind the steering wheel. I think that’s a good family car I understand you in Uk have to pay road tax from next April on EV cars
I think that light is only visible to the camera, it'll be outside the human visible spectrum. I assume that it's part of the safety equipment, probably monitors the drivers awareness.
I'm an LFP demanding buyer because we sleep beside our 100% full BYD Seal (which replaced our LFP Tesla) with its 600 km range (we've actually achieved on a return trip). We have enough for long enough to see us out. Hyundai Group has had Korean fires like Porsche,Tesla and GM and guaranteed sleep is more important.
Have a search for engineering explained and LFP battery life. Charging to 100% does help the BMS know how full it is, but recharging them to 100% each night if you've not used much isn't good for them. See what you think. And it's not just a random RUclipsr saying it, it's based on scientific research on LFP battery life.
@@Lewis_Standing we do 20-30k KMs annually and 100% (AC) isn't every night. Specific research on specific blade batteries and their specific potion, buffer, AC /DC, and BMS program - makes research specific also. Comparability seems like a hopeless exercise....20 years and irrelevance should deliver the answer. Following the book seems reasonable.
Guessing the smaller battery is LFP but the bigger one is not. Asked the dealer on the launch view and they had no idea ! Like you this would be in the garage charging and I would prefer LFP. The Rapid charging is quite slow for bigger battery ones so it is possible. Hopefully the sales people will know when we get the test drive.
Thank you for this review! I currently have the 2021 e-Niro (as my only car), and even though it's not sexy, it's extremely practical and reliable. However, my leasing is coming to an end in December, and I was looking at the EV3 as a replacement for the e-Niro. Even though the EV3 is an extremely well-planned car, I just don't like this "square" design the new Kias are going for at the moment. Hopefully the EV4 will be a copy of the EV6 whose design I do like, it's just a little too big for me.
I thought the square EV3 design looked really good until I saw it in the metal. It probably would have worked on a smaller Soul size car but not on the much bigger EV3
EV3 has ample performance for everyday driving, my Kona has same power and never needed to use full power, have tried it though and thought who needs that much power on UK roads?
That's what you call a real world road test very much like a English summer's day. We run a Kia eniro 4+ (Nov 2020) and will do 250 miles all year around before we need to do a recharge but will agree not the fastest. The EV 3 could be my next car in 3 yrs time when they start to come out of loan deals.
Couldn't agree more!
Amazing how far we’ve come. 0-100 in 8 secs is fast. Faster than you need a family car to be, yet we think its slow
My GT Line S is turning up this week. Hopefully will have it by the weekend.
Nice 👌
Congratulations! I need to to wait for next month with a heat pump version.
Mine is due end of November with heat pump
@@alexchong1985hi Alex I am about to place an order but wasn’t told about a heat pump option. Will a dealer have the info as I was going to order online.
@@Drew67072 I never used the online order function to buy the vehicle. However, I told the agent I needed a GT-Line S version with a heat pump because the heat pump is an option add-on for GT-Line S only.
Looks good to me. Kia are really coming on quality wise. Had a drive in an EV9 the other day and though it's way too big for my needs it's very nicely built with top notch materials.
So many reviewers don't know how to turn on one pedal driving and then give viewers false information. Thank you for doing your homework!
No chance!
Cmon Pete ....it's wed....can't be away again😂?
Do you think your ev will reach 150.000km without completely dead battery?
@@mmuller2402 Another family member runs my older LEAF which just happens to have reached 154000 kms (96000Miles) with less than 6% degradation in its battery. So yes I expect my newer LEAF to reach similar mileages with similar results.
@@mmuller2402 if given the proper charging regimen, it will easily reach that number but the car might rust away before reaching 150K :-) Under normal circumstances EV batteries never "die" as such but their charge capacity (and therefore range) reduces over time
@mmuller2402 already loads on RUclips Mr.
Nice to hear 👍
Well edited Pete . Very professional
Thank you 🙏🏻
New subscribers here, I'm just about to jump into an Omoda E5 as my only car. It's packed with spec but a very different car to what you've just reviewed. I'd love to hear your opinion on it.
I love this channel it's completely different from what I usually watch. It actually has got me researching EVs as an interest.
Welcome aboard!
good range, good cars generally (KIA) been running a kona ev last 3 years as my only car, its do-able folks, dont be put off by media lies.
I’ve got Renault Megane Etech. Scenic has many of the same features and functions. You’ll love it.
I'm really attracted to the EV3 and might consider having one as my only car - I think! Many thanks for this excellent review.
My pleasure!
Kia EV3 is lovely nice smooth ride that's only car you need for family brilliant videos great review thanks👍😊
My pleasure 👍
I just ordered one myself. Test drove it last week in Spain. We get a mid range “earth” model without the gloss black trim and with cloth seats.
I loved the highway drive assist and it’s a big step up from our previous Xceed where it forces you to tug the steering wheel to confirm you’re still holding it.
Ah yes. UK doesn’t get that 👎
How do you order earth with no gloss trim? 😮
You can just see battery tech is marching on and if needed they will break 400-500 mile real world then everyone will complain why do we need so much Range cut the battery 😂 You can’t win but you can go for around 2p a mile….👍
Got to feel for the guys organising the media drives and they get that weather.
👍
A really useful bit of info is the charge curve. Do I have to arrive below 10% state of charge to get the best charging rates, or can I rock up with anything below %60?
Standard rule is don’t go below 10% and stop when you get to 80% for the most time effective charging.
I'm glad that this type of car is coming to market, a one car family car.
We've always been a one car family, so this this is interesting.
Not due to change for three years or so, it'll be interesting to see what's around then.
They've killed the Nero EV with this
0-60 in 8 seconds is 80's hot hatch territory, I'd be happy with that!
You’re welcome 👍
Evening all! Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the beautifully sun weather today for the first time in two weeks.
You too!
The front reminds me of the Smart #1 but the rear is definitely Kia. Kia are really on the money with their designs.
4 years with a Model 3 now as our only car, and we drive round from central Norway to the UK every summer in it. I haven't found it difficult to live with an EV at all. A bit less convenient at times for sure, but not difficult. And i would bet my car has a much more traveled life than 90% of UK cars.
Nice 👌
With a true 300+ mile range on a motorway in the winter. We could definitely live with the EV3 as an only car. Our current Citroen E-C4 is great, but the range is annoying when setting off early in the morning when you just want to get there .... Non-stop
Enjoying the content on the channel 👍👍👍
Much appreciated 👍
It's really refreshing to see some "real world" weather. Should be mandatory!
😂😂😂
How's the cabin noise? Heard noticeable rainfall and wasn't sure how it compares to say Tesla or Volvo.
Pretty good 👍
It hits the sweet-spot for me.
Hi I think your right about the the end of the Niro EV it doesnt fit in the lineup. I'm not sure about the outside styling but I like the inside
Perfect car for an island like Malta! Love it!
Hope you enjoy it!
It's a Kia Niro
Nice 👌
You did well with this review, the car looks great!! Biblical weather!!!
Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I do have an EV as my only car. Its a Polestar 2 and its approaching two years old now. Generally I love it and cant see myself going back to legacy ICE. I charge mainly at home and office. My main issue is the high cost of on the road charging. This Kia looks good 👍
Thanks for this 👍
We've had our order in since it was first released in the UK in August, test driving it this weekend before we press the final "buy" button and if we like it we should have it by the end of November.
Its a second car for us to try out EV's for the first time. I think I will still keep my big 3ltr diesel to add a nice mix :)
great review and looking forward to test drive on Saturday.
Couldn't agree more!
Colour grading…I wish 😂
@ even more impressive if it’s point and shoot👍
Thank you for your clear and concise review, very informative and professional. Nice one matey.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏻
Nice car. I would certainly have that in my top 3 when I need to replace my current car.
Great video review of the Kia EV3
Thanks! 👍
@PetrolPed would you recommend the EV3 over the Ford Explorer EV
great review
The £40,000 thing isn't an issue if the car is registered by March 31st 2025 - it only kicks in for cars registered April 1st onwards - be quick!
Great video Pete and wow weather was shocking so well done with the editing as still delivered a great review of a great manufacturer 👌👍
Thanks 👍
I hope it makes it to Canada one day, it'd be a great companion to my EV6!
And to California please. I don't like big and overpriced SUVs they're selling here.
Evening Pete! 😀
Hello there!
Nice 👌
Very interesting car the EV3. Might trade my wife’s Countryman Cooper D ALL4 for one. Drive the EV6 GT myself.
Nice 👌
I can see a "long termer" coming up lol. Nice car Pete.
Looks interesting, I am still on a mild hybrid at the moment moment, but this shows where cars are going
Great video,interesting car…nice coverage as usual 👍
Thank you! 👍
Nice review Pete and a nice car, noticed that rear window getting dirty in that rain, does it have a rear wiper, really think we need one in this country and Portugal for that matter lol.
Yes it does 👍
Can't wait for these to finally come to the US!
I really like this car. The only thing that puts me off is the lack of NACS connector and access to the Tesla Supercharger Network.
But I must admit having 300+ of real world range would be great.
nice review, question if I may. What bhp are these ?
201 👍
Going for a test drive of EV3 this Friday, pcp on Niro EV ending next year so very interested. Pity about the rain bet you didn't take a brolly!
Have fun!
Yep I suspect a price drop in April to allow for the paint choice. Very expensive paint otherwise.
Great car! My wife and I had the opportunity to see the car at Kia HQ a few months ago now and both really liked it.
Pete my wife loves the pistachio colour as it matches her phone! Nothing more I can say! 🤷♂️
I love my EV6 GT and so impressed with the Kia brand. Do you know if there is any chance of an EV3 GT in the future?
Great review mate..
From what I understand, the company has no plans to produce a GT AWD version.
Not sure to be honest 😬
Thanks @petrolped great video. Prompted me to go and look, a GT Line is arriving at the end of the month. Didn't think I would make the move but this a really nice usable car. That's me moving away from a petrol beemer.
Love this car, looks like a real winner to me. Haven’t got Ozzie pricing yet
Definitely looks a good package, sorry Peter, but I like this colour, it’s different and stands out because of it.
Styling - for me the front is by far the best view, followed by the rear, the side is a bit marmite, and I’m not sold….
Interiors look really good though 👍🏻
Fair enough!
Noticed it has Hankook Ion tyers, Moggy did a video on those verey recently which was very informative
😂😂😂
Been EV for my only family car for almost 8 years now. Wasn't so easy with a 30kw Leaf, piece of cake with the current 64kw Kia E-Niro.
Long journeys aren't the best since the charging speed isn't over 100kw but they're manageable.
I like the look of this car and the range is fantastic, do you have to pay extra for a heat pump? The GT line is in the price rang of the new model 3, would you choose it over the model 3?
Yes. Around £900
This looks really good value for money and with a real world range of 320+ miles, this is enough for the majority of people. [Same range as my iX]
Some great EV's coming out recently !
Yeah "From Southampton to Inverness" - apparently, many ICE drivers daily drive this kind of distance 🤣 🤷♂
At least in an ICE you can if you want to with out having to be dictated by the car on where and when you HAVE TO STOP!
@@damindra
Driving 600 miles in a day with a suitable EV is no problem.
The highway code suggests stopping every 2 hours for a break, but even 3 hours is no problem for a 300 mile range EV.
In my experience, the EV charges faster than it takes to stop for a comfort break and a coffee, as per the highway code guidelines.
😂😂😂
Don’t underestimate the importance of windscreen wiper tests Pete.
One thing that another review mentioned was that small 5” display was impossible to see as it’s hidden behind the steering wheel.
I like the gear knob there and a twist function as it’s like the VW ID cars and it becomes second nature don’t even need to look.
Thanks
That’s true 👍
the 5 inch screen can be maximized with a button press to make it visible on the r/h screen.
@@TerryHickey-xt4mf ok well something I guess, be nice if it just would remember that instead of pressing a button to maximise each time
I was at the EV3 Driving Event at the end of last week.
👍🏼
Great review Pete. Nice car but will the styling stand the test of time?
We shall see
I love it, and would certainly consider it. EV only is no problem - we have two Teslas. I would buy one for sure if they made a dual motor all wheel drive version. Now that would be a fun car.
I like the shape of it!
What's it like off the line? Would have thought it would struggle in these conditions. Part of reason I got a RWD ev after a FWD XC60 that was difficult when pulling out onto fast main roads.
Not really what this car is about. Reasonable get away 👍
Probably because that's what they gave him in the briefing before making the video.
Not targeted at the UK specifically and I believe I used km and miles 🤷♂️
people rubbish fully charged for quoting miles, you just can't win!
Can’t get a test drive for two weeks, apparently the dealers don’t have them yet. Looking forward to a test drive, now I realise why they are offering the EV Niro 4 at a low lease price. Good review though.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Driver attention system. Not visible to the naked eye 👍
just stick a bit of masking tape over it as we do in NZ, and we already pay road tax here for our evs , RUC.
Another great KiA review I love them to do a PHEV in that model think it would be a really good fit.
Is there much need for PHEVs these days?
Charging network is so much more reliable and numerous.
Great looking car and if the range is anywhere near what they claim they are on to a winner. I love it👍
👍
I'm amazed you made such a big deal of one pedal driving when Tesla and Nissan have been doing it for years.
Didn’t make a big deal. Just described its feel 🤷♂️
big deal?
Love it. Wife hates it!!
Tech moving on rapidly so wonder if that makes leasing the only sensible option?
some things in the world never change😃
EV3 has ample performance for everyday driving, my Kona has same power and never needed to use full power, have tried it though and thought who needs that much power on UK roads?
Yep 👍
Kia Sunset Orange is an awesome color on the Niro EV. I'd have that base color, especially for free.
I totally agree!
