Wasn't a huge CC's fan, but saw them open for Santana last night and by the time Adam was done with this, I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye. Masterful performance.
Funny there’s a small documentary on the Viper Room talking about how tending bar saved his life. This man is and always has been a struggling genius. I hope he’s around for a much longer time.
Thanks for sharing. This is why CC is my favourite band, great lyrics and never stop to develop their live shows. Different versions every tour. Regards from Sweden
I agree.i heard them the first time when i was in second grade and knew they were special.all these years later and I’m an artist and musician.these guys introduced me to passionate self expression.
I agree. First album I ever fell in love with. Seen them live many times. Unfortunately he thinks he's so special he doesn't need to sing the songs. He just talks and acts like he's in a play lol. I decided never to see them live again after he did this crap 10 - 15 years ago. Looks like I made the right decision.
A few years ago, Counting Crows opened up their show at Red Rocks with this song. I was in the front row with a few friends. After the song ended, I looked over at my friends and said "Check please," we can leave now. I was half way kidding, of course, but It was that powerful, so I seriously thought I didn't need to hear another song, because I didn't think it could get any better. Well, of course, it continued getting better and better.
I was counting the songs then she entered the room spinning with the darkness. i said tonight let's just talk awhile about the year. maybe next season summer won't fade away like an old pair of corduroys. Thanks Adam D for everything you paint and describe like surreal colours. Your band is part of me and my memories forever.
Absolutely freaking brilliant 🔥 I just covered this song and I most certainly felt every part of it while singing it. I got choked up, I cried.... absolutely brilliant badassery 🤘😝🤘
Actually think it's the opposite! Most of what his public interviews etc. suggest he's in the best personal place of his life the last few years. But in songs like this he can take himself back to that tortured place which inspired them all those years ago
These are the musical moments I live for - filled with inspiration, creativity, pure emotion and spontaneity. I had chills several times throughout this performance and while I can understand those who dislike these exact qualities because the songs evolve and change with time and don't always sound like the six minutes we all know and love from the record, I appreciate these improvisational musical journeys as living art like jazz or dance. 💖
@nocellphone , we go to these concerts because we have a memory of these songs from 30 years ago. Try singing along to "Mr. Jones," or "Omaha," when the song is now in slow motion. You would tip over on a bicycle at that speed.
@@joenevis2757 I can definitely understand that and the desire to hear what we know the way we know it, and sometimes those expectations are met and it's great when that happens. 🙂 Other times, I get to experience the song as it and those who created it have evolved over the years and for me that's great in another way. I can listen to the recorded version - the one that's practically encoded in my DNA by this time - anytime I choose, and I'm also open to what happens in the moment that's presented to me. We all feel differently about these things and I don't think there are "wrong" feelings, they're all valid to the one who feels 'em.
Crazy...I saw Adam Duritz play this song in a small cafe in Berkeley in 1990 with his previous band The Himalayans...time is most definitely illmatic (as Nas says).
If you want to hear the version from the album then do it.. if your a real fan u understand the live versions and understand the lead singer does shows based on his mood that day and hes amazing.. just stay home and listen to the cd if your stupid enough to think he "ruins" his own music live.. man people can be so numb
Love CC so much. 20 years ago, 2004, they played a 2 hour set. Once Adam commands your attention with his musical talents it never feels long enough believe me. Seen them almost 9 times.
@@thechaz83 Agree, he is the type of artist you want to get a few bottles of wine flowing and just sit back and listen to the words and songs. They are a magical band, hope to see them on the road for a long long time. You can see as the night goes on he gets more into the show, would love to see them do a 2-3 hour set acoustic/plugged in, what a show that would be. I want to say this is my 4th show now, always a fun time.
Mr. Jones was always a personal favorite Duritz Adam. #truthforcetimelessgoodtogoJesusChristisbackandyouneverexpectedthattobetrueandnowyouknowthetruth2024 in Jesus Christs name we pray amen.
Well the summer's almost ended. And it gets shorter every year. And a cold October's waitin. To remind you of the tears. And now you're here with me. But you say you feel alone. Lot of things I can't be for ya baby, But I will always be your home!....... I have a real short list of rock heroes. One of them wrote that for his wife who's mom died when she was 9. Mine went 10/7 just before ten. I could share that with mice elf -again.. and again- or.. ya know. 📃 thx ⌨️ 🎂 🥲
I know I'm in the minority, but Adam's incessant vocal improvisation annoys me. I don't mind a little bit here and there, but ultimately the vocal is the melody -- particularly in this song. Yes, it's his song and he can reinvent it as he pleases. However, I think it shows a certain laziness and a lack of respect for the melody that fans love on the masterpiece that is the "August" album. I saw CC in early 90s at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles and he was way way more faithful to the vocal melody.
He's always done that 90 percent of the time live.He likes to just talk the songs and go on tangents ,like some type of poet instead of a singer.Very frustrating. The reason I chose not to see them the one time they played near me.Its a shame because even currently his voice is still very good.
Why do you think that Billy Joel had a residency and sold out 10 years of shows at MSG? Because he understands what fans want - they want to sing along to the song that they played on repeat 5,000 times the way they heard it on the radio. I get it, you're tired of playing it the same way over and over again, so you want to mix it up. But that's about YOU, and you didn't pay me to perform, I paid you to hear the song that I fell in love with and this is a totally different song and seems lazy, not artistic. I would want my money back after this performance. Play for the fans that made you rich and famous.
You all just let that man cook. If you think this is unhinged, then you don’t understand this band and what they do.
Wasn't a huge CC's fan, but saw them open for Santana last night and by the time Adam was done with this, I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye.
Masterful performance.
This song an album are timeless masterpieces.
Wow, best Round Here I've heard in a long time. Thx for sharing it.
Just love the Counting Crows. I was lucky to see them in Tampa in 2024. The band that saved my life. ❤
I know exactly what you mean. On my death bed this song will take me up into heaven with a smile on my face
they saved my life in the 90s.

One of the best written songs of my generation. The lyrics literally feel like a slice of life.

That performance spoke to me more than just about anything.
I keep waiting.
Still sound great to me. Never had the chance to see them but been listening to them since this album was released in 94.

Adam is a genius.
Such a beautiful voice and song. Adam seems to be a troubled soul these days, but I guess, who isn't. Hope he remains healthy and stable.

Adam in his hobo phase.

I’ll never understand how a band can write and record such great songs, and then proceed to ruin them live.
