Hi Liza! I'm currently planning a trip down there, how much was your budget? I've been traveling mexico and prices help out on not worrying about cash but the video says that Belizean currency is 1:2 to US dollars so I'm not sure how much would be enough haha
edward matt That's wonderful to hear. Thanks for the inspiration to do more of these. Tomorrow I'll be releasing some tips from my first trip to Ireland.
They are places called Crooked Tree Village, if you like Bird watching you can visit this place and there is also a Maya Ruin there as well. It is located approximately 33miles from Belize City on the Northern Highway and approximately 3 miles off the Highway. You can get cheaper local wine in this village without any added preservatives as you would get when you purchase it at the Duty Free Zone at the Airport. If you are planning to make a trip here in my country, you can go to this Beautiful Village and the villagers are friendly. You can stay at Bird's Eye View Lodge and they can pick you up from the airport and take you on tours within the village and ask them what all they have to offer in there package deal. Don't forget to ask about Red Neck Shop where you can get your local cashew and berries wine for US$5 for the litre, US$10 for the size we describe as elephant foot and US$15 for the gallon. The next time you visit Belize Brady Bigalke, you should talk a tour in this Beautiful village. Don't only limit your visit to only the West and part of the South in Stann Creek district. They are other places where you can visit in Toledo District such as one of the small village called Barranco where you can get huge golden plum to eat and other villages in Toledo. You can also visit Lamani, another Maya Ruin in Orange Walk. You can either reach this Ruin either by boat or by road. Don't forget to stop in downtown Orange Walk for there delicious Tacos which they are famous for doing. In Corozal, which is close to the Northern Border to cross over to Chetumal, there are places where you can visit as well. The water is Beautiful to swim. They are different Cayes where you can visit apart from Caye Caulker. There is San Pedro which starts at the top of the Coral Reef in the North to Lime Caye which is the end of the hook of the Coral Reef in the South. I enjoy my country and traveling to get to know these places.
Thank you Brady!! Can't begin to imagine the work that went into this...what an offering, what a give back beyond your community. Inspiring and my wife and I are planning a trip to BELIZE!!❤ Our best to your Fiancé💎🎁💯
Tip: when taking public transportation to move from districts. Ask the local persons what’s the transportation fee, you’re supposed to be charged the same fee as the locals for public transportation but sometimes they would triple the price for u tourists. 2. Don’t eat at fancy restaurants, try the local food stops, it’s waayyy much better and u get to taste something different. 3. Pay day is the last Friday in the month and yes every other Friday.
In 1964 my friend and I spent six weeks with his uncle, Mr. Norris in Belize - British Honduras as it was known then. He had a huge estate which is now on the maps as Norland. Anyway we biked to ATM and entered around late afternoon at the wet end of the cave and we were going to go through to the high end. (We had been through once before with Mr. Norris.) Well, we got lost and our batteries went dead. We spent the night in the cave with what seemed like a million bats. When sunrise came the next morning, we could see the glow coming from the high end of the cave and we made it out and cooked breakfast. Back then no tourist went to ATM. It was only known to a very few locals and you had to hack and hike your way through the jungle to get there. As I recall we started into the jungle at the back end of a large banana plantation. In 1964 British Honduras was definitely not a tourist destination. The main highway from Belize City to San Ignacio was clay, no pavement.
Awesome review, BUT: 1) Belizean Creole is not "Jamaican" mixed with anything. It is it's own thing. It IS Belizean Creole. Syntax, grammar and accent are all different from Jamaican 2) Caye is pronounced "KEY" 3) You can buy exotic local wines anywhere in the Belize District
+Michael Kale Fuller Thank you for adding that tip. I guess we should have looked harder for wine. As a Western Caribbean country, I noticed a lot of great deals on beer and rum, and the imported liquor was obviously expensive.
@@BradySkye you did a good job with the video, but you made obvious mistakes. Overall tourists generally dont care what Belizean Creole is or care to understand it. They will likely say "Kay" for Caye, and if the come across someone selling local fruit wines on the northern or old northern highway, they'll probably be afraid/uninformed/apprehensive to buy anyways. You made the best video to your demographic: young, backpacker-type, adventurous, white people from developed countries.
Belize Kriol (also Kriol or Belizean Creole) is an English-based creole language closely related to Miskito Coastal Creole, Jamaican Patois, San Andrés-Providencia Creole, Bocas del Toro Creole, Colón Creole, Rio Abajo Creole and Limón Coastal Creole. Belize Kriol is derived mainly from English. Its substrate languages are the Native American language Miskito, and the various West African and Bantu languages which were brought into the country by slaves. These include Akan, Efik, Ewe, Fula, Ga, Hausa, Igbo, Kikongo and Wolof. Decker (2005:3) proposes that the creole spoken in Belize previous to 1786 was probably more like Jamaican than the Belize Kriol of today. By the Convention of London in 1786 the British were supposed to cease all logwood cutting operations along the Caribbean coast of Central America, except for the Belize settlement. Many of the settlers from the Miskito Coast moved to Belize, bringing their Miskito Coast Creole with them. The immigrants outnumbered the Baymen five to one. The local Kriol speech shifted to become something more like the Miskito Coast Creole. Miskito Creole is nearly identical to, and hence mutually intelligible with, Belizean Creole, and retains a high degree of intelligibility with all other Central American English creoles. It is also sometimes classified as a dialect of Jamaican Patois creole but this classification has been disputed. Mískito Coast Creole or Nicaragua Creole English is an English-based creole language spoken in coastal Nicaraguan region of Mosquito Coast on the Caribbean Sea; its approximately 30,000 speakers are spread over a number of small villages. The region is today administratively separated into two autonomous regions: North Caribbean Coast and South Caribbean Coast. Mosquito is the nickname that is given to the region and earlier residents by early Europeans who visited and settled in the area. The term "Miskito" is now more commonly used to refer to both the people and the language. The Creoles of Nicaragua are said to be an Afro-Caribbean population that are mixed with Europeans, Africans and Amerindians. Their culture is influenced by West African and British roots along with Mestizos and Miskito. Some food that is used in their cooking consists of coconut oil, taro root, manioc and other elements such as wheat flour and other processed foods. They have their own musical style which can be compared to West Indian calypso. ___ Bileezhan (Bileezyan) Kriol: Wehpaat (Wehpaa/Wichpaa) Ai deh fahn da Bileez da too a dehn Bileez ahn Stan Krik Dischrik deh Belizean Creole Dictionary (Free): www.sil.org/system/files/reapdata/91/95/49/91954925699176285931841170600318709537/BelizeKriol_EngDic_49337_2009.pdf Belizean Creole Grammar (Free): www.sil.org/system/files/reapdata/20/99/21/20992139271472124394945438780794345365/The_Song_of_Kriol_UnicodeElectronic2013.pdf ___
Jamaican Patois, known locally as Patois (Patwa or Patwah) and called Jamaican Creole by linguists, is an English-based creole language with West African influences (a majority of loan words of Akan origin) spoken primarily in Jamaica and the Jamaican diaspora; it is spoken by the majority of Jamaicans as a native language. Patois developed in the 17th century, when slaves from West and Central Africa were exposed to, learned and nativized the vernacular and dialectal forms of English spoken by the slaveholders: British English, Scots and Hiberno-English. Jamaican Creole exhibits a gradation between more conservative creole forms that are not significantly mutually intelligible with English, and forms virtually identical to Standard English. Jamaican Patois contains many loanwords, most of which are African in origin, primarily from Twi (a dialect of Akan). Many loanwords come from English, but are also borrowed from Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Arawak and African languages as well as Scottish and Irish dialects. Significant Jamaican Patois-speaking communities exist among Jamaican expatriates in Miami, New York City, Toronto, Hartford, Washington, D.C., Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama (in the Caribbean coast), also London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Nottingham. A mutually intelligible variety is found in San Andrés y Providencia Islands, Colombia, brought to the island by descendants of Jamaican Maroons (escaped slaves) in the 18th century. Mesolectal forms are similar to very basilectal Belizean Kriol. _ Jamaican Creole Grammar (Free): www.creolica.net/jcpp.pdf openaccess.leidenuniv.nl/bitstream/handle/1887/52532/Final%20Draft.pdf _

It has upgraded a lot since then and the internet have been fiber optic wires now. So, the speed have been updated a lot. It is still in progress for the entire country to get it.
Being from Belize, I agree with what is said in this video. Totally recommend going to/visiting Belize. Schedule time, as this couple did, and go for 1-2 weeks. Don't visit from a cruise trip, you will miss out on so many things. Enjoy.

My phone is listening to my tv since there was a little something where Belize was mentioned a lot and here we are. Thinking about it and hearing what this dude says in the beginning gave me chills lol
So back in 2014 I returned with my friend to San Pedro for a few days, his first time to Belize. I packed in my stuff a very large fish hook- NO BARB and long strong rope. We set out to find a golf cart guy that was willing to drive us to a quite place next to the Tarpon, payed him a six-pack of cold beer. Put on some food and tied the rope to his cart. FISH ON, HIT THE GAS and this pissed off six foot Tarpon was on shore. Take pictures and toss him back. You would never catch one on a pole next to a dock, just to big. Belize now has signs up on docks and other places not allowing this anymore. So back to 2008 in San Pedro we had the chance to feed the crocks. On our way in a golf cart taxi we stopped at a small store to buy a frozen chicken to bring along with us. When we arrived to the swampy area we were greeted by local teenagers from there local school. They had paper work to show the school all money paid. I gave the chicken to one of the boy's, the brave one. He tied the chicken on a long rope and tossed it in the water, he was standing in the water. The next thing you see is about 50 crocks were in and were going NUTS WITH EACH OTHER for this chicken, but this boy didn't let them get it. They were mad and rolling around fighting and all of a sudden cow bones surfaced when they fought. This teenager knew what he was doing, waiting for the Alfa-male to arrive. "There he is" he yelled, off about a quarter mile away was two "VERY BIG EYE BALLS COMING". So soon as this "Alfa-male arrived", all the younger crocks swam away and hid. "Mister Alfa-male said get OUT THIS IS MY CHICKEN". This teenager knew this crock very well, it was his friendly trained pet. It did what any trained pet would do, "put on a show". He tossed the chicken in, pulled it back, tossed it around and had fun with his friend. After about five minutes he let his friend have the chicken, but he didn't get pulled into the water. The crock was happy to get lunch. He then came ashore to rest and say "Hi to everyone, look how big I am", he was seventeen feet long and happy. The teenager said "Anyone want to pet him", no one was ready for that. I said "I do", and asked him "Will I live or not trying", he said "You will be fine if you do as I say". "Walk slowly on to his side, not his front side to him and pet him". So before I did this I had my friend film this on video to show my family what happend to Mikey in Belize. I walked to the side of his head, stuck out my arm, and petted his nose twice. It was very soft to the touch. The crowd of people standing around started to cheer "He's still alive", and I'm glad too.
Awesome summary !! The only thing i would add is the local flights from city to city are pretty reasonable ,quick and convenient if you dont want to rent a car , the car rental was probably our biggest concern and we only kept it for 3 of our 21 days as its so easy to navigate Belize by other means of transport incl the buses.WE LOVE BELIZE AWESOME PEOPLE AND COUNTRY .
Great information for future Belizean guests. Very informative. We own property in Belize and travel down there frequently. It took be a while to figure out that "Dirty Tree" really meant "33" ! You didn't mention the Coastal Rd. in your travels, but I think they were in the midst of actually improving the road for paving when you were there - or getting ready to start. Also mention that you pull over the right-hand side of the road to make a left turn - that is the quickest way to spot tourists ; ) Great video!

My Aunt has a home in Consejo. I have for years now gone down and sit in her yard next to the bay. I have been to every temple site more than twice so far. Things to remember when touring around- have a plan in advance before you arrive. Flight into Belize city from the U.S.A. There are no direct flights in. Could take you up to 36 hours of being awake in total if booked cheap. It did me once. I got a Direct flight into Cancun and took the bus into Chetumal, then hit the bus system in Belize. 1- book a 2 night room to get comfortable to travel. 2- Do your own tours and save on costs. Find a place to go. 3- Do not rent a car, costs $100.00 us dollars per day. 4- Ride the bus system, cost $1.00- $2.00 us dollars. When the bus pulls into the yard, run to the back of the bus open the rear door, drop your what-ever's down and take a seat near to your what-ever's. You DON'T BUY A TICKET, THE DOOR MAN WILL FIND YOU, pay cash to him. All the other people are boarding through the front door, when full the bus leaves. Tell him where your going to. He will call out the stop for you. 5- Finding a room in your city is very easy, do not book one. You will not like your room, or will get ripped off in price's. After you exit the bus, walk down the street and you will see a LOT OF PRIVATE HOMES SET UP. They all watch you walking on the street with your bags. They call you over to see the rooms, go in and look first. Then barter your stay, very common to do. 6- Go to your tour by walking or bus. Pay when you arrive, it's way cheaper. Some places like Jaguar Paw- (Santa Ignacio is were all the good places are to see) it's where the Zip lines and Cave water tubing is. About 10 miles from town. It's down a dirt road about a few miles. No Big Deal, someone is in a car and will take you there for a small fee. We did this and payed him extra to buy tickets and go on both Zip lines and Cave touring. BOTH ARE SUPPER GREAT, DON'T LEAVE BELIZE UNTIL YOU DO BOTH. He takes you back to the bus stop. Some bus's are free to ride on, just be watching and wave them down. 7- Temples are super cheap to visit. The one that costs the most is Lamanai Reserve. This goes down the New river in Orange Walk. Take a rain coat if need be, it's over an hour to get down. It's the best site to see by far. 8- Best time of year to arrive. April -May. Why, because it rains very little and the mosquitoes are a lot better to deal with. Later on when nice out you will be hamburger meat in one day. They also have Doctor Flies that draw blood and you will take days to recover. Always bring long sleeve shirts and full length pants and shoes and socks. Mosquitoes are waiting for you everywhere in places. The closer you are to water is best to be, across the street you are hamburger meat. 9- Belican beer is nasty. They only have Heineken for other. If say you like Corona beer ask the bar tender if he has what you like, he does in the back. If you smoke, same thing ask him for your smokes. Belize cigs are nasty. 10- You can stay longer than 30 days if you leave and return to Belize, so go to Tikal or Mexico to see sites. I saw 4 countries, 20 sites, flight and food, rooms, extras, girls, fun for 50 days and spent no more than $1500.00 us dollars. GO SEE BELIZE
Wow. Thanks for sharing all of this information on Belize. This is great. There are, however, direct flights into Belize City. Our flight from Orlando was direct.

GREAT review and 100% correct. I love that you got it all right--from Crystal rental to 'speed bumps", to AirBNB. Hummingbird Highway is the most beautiful hwy I've ever driven. ATM--the BEST THING IN THE WORLD (wear a warm shirt as I get cold). I loves your summary and its so accurate. PS-- Barton Creek is seasonal only. :-)
Great advice...on a side note, when you said the actual name of ATM cave, it reminded me of the language from movie Avatar. The lazy lizard at the split is owned by 5 foreigners, who invested heavily in that place, so they passing on the cost to the tourist. We found that the sip n dip was cheaper and is owned by a local from Caye Caulker.
Thanks for the feedback! Haha yeah I was very determined to learn how to pronounce Actun Tunichil Muknal correctly. And we loved the Sip N' Dip in Caye Caulker. Totally agree.
@@BradySkye my great grandfather back in the mood days when my dad was a teenager once own most of Caye Caulker. This was before they had outboard motors and had to sail to island. He loss it gambling and selling it off. He offered my dad his last big piece of island, but as a young teen, my dad was like, nah...total lack of insight went into that decision. He kicks himself to this day for that bad decision.
One thing to know when your driving in Belize. They have speed humps. They have signs and they come up fast on you. Best slow way down when going over them. Else you’ll take out your suspension. Curiously. They always have cross walks to cemeteries. Kay caulker is fun to go to. You’ll want to make a reservation if you want to stay at a hotel.

We then went to Ambergris Caye and had a great time. The food was good and lots to do. Took a sail boat trip from San Pedro to Caulker Caye which was very nice. Highly recommend Belize for vacation.
My university is going to Belize in June. 10 days not sure if I am going or not. They have police academy, youth dentition centers, and their court system, also adding in Mayan ruins, cave tubing, and swimming
Great video. Tikal is just as I remember it in the 1990's. I think the wood railings are new. I heard tourists would occasionally fall off while climbing the steep steps. There were no railings or wood steps back then. Just a hike up the stone steps.
christopher stimpson Whoa. Yeah, any Mayan ruin is explored at your own risk for sure. I think going up the steps would be easier than coming down. A lot of people would get vertigo. I had no idea how intense those steps were until I saw them in person and walked up a few.
@@BradySkye I was there in 1996 and the locals told me a tourist had fallen off the steps the day before. I had traveled by bus from El Paso to a small town in Guatemala, maybe Santa Elena, and then to Tikal. Back then nobody went outside at night. You would hear rifles at night. Antigua, Guatemala was still popular back then for tourists, but all the locals told me in Spanish to avoid going out at night. The only place I had trouble was in Torreon, Mexico. Some well dressed bandits with pistols were talking about getting rid of me to take my money, so I decided it was time to get them free drinks and after they were all drunk they decided I was a good guy. Then I left when they were not looking. Have fun and be safe.

My uncle and his wife moved to Belize 4 years ago and they love it! They’ve been telling us to come visit. Thanks for sharing.
Go! Run don't walk!
I have been to jamaica and the Dominican Republic already and belize is high on my list of next destinations to visit in the carribean.
GO!!!! You will not regret it, Jamaica is amazing but Belize stole my heart.
You will not regret it❤ not everyone in Belize is mean.
Try visting the cayes
@@henryvaltsart9849 i am from the UK am i welcome in mexico?
@Owayne Dilworth I was in negril at dream weekend so didn't get to see much of jamaica but Belize just stole my heart.
Jam Connell born and raised over here 👈 Belizean. It’s so beautiful and great people....
Thank you Brady!! Can't begin to imagine the work that went into this...what an offering, what a give back beyond your community. Inspiring and my wife and I are planning a trip to BELIZE!!❤ Our best to your Fiancé💎🎁💯
Thanks a million for the inspiration Art!
James Conner Whoa. Thanks for sharing that history and experience you had. What a memory.
Awesome review, BUT:
1) Belizean Creole is not "Jamaican" mixed with anything. It is it's own thing. It IS Belizean Creole. Syntax, grammar and accent are all different from Jamaican
2) Caye is pronounced "KEY"
3) You can buy exotic local wines anywhere in the Belize District
pgbk87 wanted to say the same. Even wines from all over the world can be found even cheaper than duty free and many stores around the country.

By your video I see all reasons why I should protect my Belize what others loves so much in my country. THANK U FOR SHARING.😍
Belize is the only Central American country whose official language is English. Additionally, there are historic sites to see in Belize City.... and there are the night clubs as well as restaurants. And crime is far less than other Central American countries
😂 Really!? Comparing our Anglican Catherdral to those huge 15th Century gothic buildings that neighboring countries provide? Some of these guests actually traveled the world and probably knew more history than you and I.

if u left belize in 1988, you never been to belize before. its a whole new world
It has upgraded a lot since then and the internet have been fiber optic wires now.

Enjoy.
I've been going to Belize since 1976.; I was there before it got discovered. Man has it changed. San Pedro/Ambergris Caye has become what they use to swear they never wanted. Great Job I saw my business place here thanks for visiting Belize
Where is your business located?
Nice story about the alpha crock & the kid !

Great video! I visited Belize last August and would have loved to have known all the information you shared before headed there!
That's great to hear. Thanks for letting me know! Where in Belize did you go?
My university is going to Belize in June. 10 days not sure if I am going or not. They have police academy, youth dentition centers, and their court system, also adding in Mayan ruins, cave tubing, and swimming
try to also go to caye caulker/san pedro and visit the largest LIVING barrier reef in the world and the Blue Hole
I love this! Thank you for visiting my country 🇧🇿🙏🏾

Thanks for the great review. Always welcomed back.
You have to try the national dish if you go. I miss it and wish I could get it in the US.
What is the national dish? I'll be there next week!

Belize is not a Spanish country. I remember a tourist lady talking to me in Spanish and I am Mopan Maya ,yeah speak English
Hey i am from india but soon i will visit belize 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
I’m from Belize and I love seeing videos like these for some reason
