    Thank you! This was the only video I found on RUclips that made it easy to understand how to change my pump.

    Is this the same on TDI pd 150 ARL? I had a rumbling noise parked facing downhill, when I dry steered slightly left and right the rumble sound disappeared. I'm think it may be the power steering pump my, fan belt is squeaky in lower rpm and sometimes idle

    Jesus mate, you made it look so easy, is it really that straight forward. ? Great job nice one thanks. Ps, one question, my pump on my golf works fine but it whines when I turn the steering, does it need replacing or just topping up ? Cheers. :-)

      top up first, to see wat happens, if no joy. then change the powersteering fluid, use the proper green pas fluid

      if u have to change power fluid, make sure you cut the steering from left to right about 10 times after filling the new power oil to get the air out and stop the squelling sound. or as we say a pig stuck with a knife sound.good luck.

    Hi Liam, I have Mk3 Colour Concept Golf. Steering is heavy (can't turn wheel with one finger). Could it need replacement pump? There are no whine noises and fluid is full. Thanks.

      There is a screen in the reservoirs. Once you remove the fluid you can see if it is clean. That could cause some difficulty if it is not clean. Are you using CHF 11S? CHF 202 is also usable in these cars but they say anything other than those two fluids might cause problems. It is hit or miss. I have read about people using ATF and not having problems but that is a big risk to take with such an important part of the car. It can be expensive to replace the rack on some cars if the seals are ever leaking. One way to tell if the rack is leaking is to see if the boots have fluid in them but the leaks if there are any can be at the pump instead. One thing to remember about these cars is that they take special fluids such as CHF 11s and 202 and if other stuff is used it can cause problems. Some Volkswagens used ATF as power steering fluid but that changed later.

    I can hear a whine noise when I turn my steering wheel and move off on 1st gear. The reservoir is full of fluid and hasn't gone down. Mechanics have said my steering rack is on it's way out. Will the noise stop if I replace the rack?

      try changing the pump first, replace the fluid,etc,

    Don't you need to re-time the Cambelt when you take it off? Please reply asap

    • @mikerotch9878
      @mikerotch9878 8 лет назад +2

      That isn't the cam belt (i.e. timing belt), it is the accessory drive belt. The timing belt is much harder to get to.
