    There's no such thing as "there's no money left" for governments that control their own currency.
    You can borrow, you can print, you can tax. Yes, each option has implications and consequences, but they are all possible in times of economic downturn.
    Government budgets are not the same as household budgets.
    Osbourne either knows this and is cruel, or incredibly ignorant and incompetent.

      Right, and Osborne did all of those, which involve hard choices. The point was clearly that there was a big deficit that needed to be reduced.
      Also, by 2010, the economy was growing again and inflation was rising, so there was little room for printing money much more than was done through QE.

      @@Myndir The thing that the Conservatives would have never done, which would have helped, would have been to tax wealth and not income. Instead of taxing working people more and cutting public spending for people that need public services, the Conservatives could have taxed the billions of 1%, but the Conservatives won't do that because they are conservatives. They are ideologically against taxing the wealthy.

    I will answer that question Susanna. The reason they put politics to the side and started a coalition is because they saw an opportunity to make MONEY 💷 by podcasting (it worked for Rory Stewart and Alistair Campbell 😅)

    George Osborne saying it's not gonna come from the billionaire oligarchs. It's gonna come from working people. That in itself is a political decision that he has chosen to make. As a conservative, he was never going to tax wealthy people. He taxed working people.

    Osborne's austerity did absolutely nothing for the deficit as it went up every year then and since, utterly outrageous to claim it as a success.

      That is not true. The deficit was reduced. Austerity worked in respect to its stated goals, but I wouldn't say it was a good thing for all the social harm that came with it.

      @@hyperbiped9913 The deficit went down relative to what would have happened without Osborne's cuts, but there still wasn't a lot of austerity, especially not before the economy was growing again in 2013-2016. In practice, Osborne ended up being pretty similar to what Alistair Darling, Ed Balls, and Labour were planning to do, though neither side wants to admit this fact.
