I was today years old when I realised that Steve Baker was one of very few politicians who understand the problems, even though I disagree with all of his solutions.

The conservatives need to accept they lost not because of woke people, not because of young people, not because of poor people, immigrants, LGBT folk. They lost because they didn't meet the needs of the people and the country, they failed to boost economy, they failed to maintain people's living standards or at least mitigate harm from inflation, they failed to cut funding to the NHS which many elderly rely on. In common with postal vote respondents who received postal vote forms too late to be cast this week I was disenfranchised of my vote through the bureaucratic bumbling and ineptitude of the non-returning government by inexplicably 'disappearing' from the electoral role on which I voted the General Election previous to this one. Why is almost nobody talking about this. How strong would Labour's voting base been had those like myself not had their voting right taken from them. I went to two polling stations in my town - on Thursday - only to be told I was registered neither of them. Calling the election helpline I was told my name was not on the local area polling list at all. No-one could tell me by who or what mechanism it had been removed. I'm thankful for the result towards which my vote would have been cast - had my right to vote not been taken from me - but incredibly disturbed this outgoing government of serial scandals and bungling bureaurocracy managed even to deny to me the right to vote them out of office. I am not one given easily to conspiracy theories - but it is well known the Tories didn't want people to vote this election.
