Vanessa rocks! 1. Loosen up posture, wiggle shoulders, relax neck, shake out any anxiety, take deep belly breaths, and exhale with “shushing”. 2. Tongue trills, ascending and descending 5X each. 3. Humming, vibration is key, keep lips and jaws loose, ascending and descending 5X each. 4. Chant, meem, mime, mohm, moom. Transition from humming, practice until resonance is clear. 5. Pronounce, ma pa ta, annunciation is key here, 5X each. 7:25 Summary review.
I just did these with you, and my cat looked so concerned and then attacked my face. I don't think he likes vocal warmups. 😂 At least when I chastised him, my voice was warm!
I had to give a remote presentation to a large number of people today. It went great. Thank you for your help. I seriously needed your exercises. Working remotely, not talking to anyone for potentially days, makes presentations really difficult.
These also calm your nerves as the parasympathetic nervous system is triggered by diaphragmatic breathing and humming. I just use to sing before presentation. Thanks for new techniques!
That was super helpful and also super fun. Just did these for a presentation yesterday and then decided to do them with my daughter today! The presentation went great and my daughter and I couldn’t help but laugh and smile the entire time we were doing it! ❤😂
Thank you so much. I do sales presentations and my vocal fry is gotten worse. I am training like a singer and warming up like this more often. It helps!!! Thank you again
Hello Vanessa! Thank you so much for this video! It has been helpful to many of my voice patients. Do you think you can do a video for a vocal cool-down for speakers? I get teachers, fitness coaches, preachers and many other professionals who don't exactly need their voice for singing, but have lost vocal function and it impacts their ability to do their jobs. A vocal cool-down video from you would be EXTRA reinforcing for my patients to hear it from somebody else too. Most of these individuals don't understand that warming up and cooling down is not just for singers.

Appreciate Video! Forgive me for butting in, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about - Fiyyatt Dumbfounded Finder (do a google search)? It is a smashing exclusive product for removing the root cause of your social anxiety minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my old buddy Taylor got great success with it.
Underrated video!! Definitely sharing with my co worker. I think she’d love this video. We are interns at a biotech company, and she’s the Personal Develop on the Intern and Co-op Association (ICA) looking forward to sharing with my team tomorrow
Thanks so much for this brilliant tips..this is very helpful.. yesterday I had a presentation and it left me dissappointed the whole day, my pronunciation was bad, anxious and breathy voice..and today I woke up and searching some tips. Thanks Venessa.
I've been looking for something like this for making an impactful presentation. These warmups proved to be super helpful. Thank you! Your voice is so soothing like music to ears and on top you look so adorable (treat to eyes) watched it for the second time just to gaze at the beautiful you :)
Hello, These warm up exercises is really useful, funny and surprising for me, also these really helpful for me because due climate change i am suffering from throat pain and cough and i am not tell all the words properly but the tounge trills practice fruitful for me to smooth my vocal. Thank you
This is incredibly useful, and can I just say that the make-up is on point? That Lipstick and those eyebrows are SHARP. I'm absolutely stuck on staring
Can you help me, how long it will take to improve my vocal cords, its taking me too long, as im not shouting, im normal practice, please help me, Thankyou ❤️
You got this! It helps if you can practice a little every day, and especially before speaking events. There's more info in our article if you're interested! www.scienceofpeople.com/vocal-warm-ups/
I still remember when I was a kid my teacher tought us to say the letter R. It was funny because some kids often said the L sound instead of the R. Thanks for sharing!
I now work answering calls all day and sometimes teach at church. When i get nervous, my voice stops on me. And it'll be raspy or unpredictable till I work out the goo!😂 im glad to have these to do on my drive to work! No more weird voice mornings😅
For some reason my baby responds so well to these exercises when I'm doing them. So now I do the rehearsals often as entertainment for my baby and therefore, strengthening my vocal codes often.
Hi Vanessa, Uh, the only problem is with the first one... It hurts to move around like that. I'm in pain most of the time, & have severe muscle spasms in my neck, back, shoulders. The rest of it sounds like a good idea!
Thanks for your question - I would say yes!! Here's a blurb from one of our articles: "Other routines that are less directly related to public speaking but could still help you feel prepared are things like having a specific type of tea in the morning, getting a workout in before you go, or wearing a special piece of jewelry every time you speak." If you want some more tips you can check out the full article here: www.scienceofpeople.com/speaking-anxiety/
I am looking for the video that you, Vanessa, warmed up your voice while at hair shop. What struck me was that the hair specialist could still work and did not roll off the floor laughing. :) Thanks a lot, Vanessa!
