  • After plenty of June rain, crops on Harry's Farm are looking much better than they did just a few weeks ago. In the second part of this video, I explain how UK farming is going to change dramatically over the coming few years and it might been my days of being an arable farmer will soon be over.

When you only farm arable crops you become dependent on costly inputs. Very nearly all farms should be mixed. You get a better crop rotation and lower your input bills that way.

This presumes that they're just incompetent and this is all by accident. All of our leaders attend global summits and these global institutes have been pumping put propaganda for years about hwo they want us living in smart cities, eating insect protein, etc. I believe the most recent slogan is "you'll own nothing and be happy".
They've also talked about dividing the world up into sectors that has its own use, such as Europe being a service centre, Africa for minerals, Asia for industry, etc, etc. People can poo poo it all as ridiculous but it doesn't change the fact that this is what they're literally talking about and seemingly doing.

@@adrianchetwynd1334 It's not too late, but it will take all the farmers together to hold the politicians feet to the fire. When the pols try to back pedal, the non farm folk will have to join the farmers in one unholy row, against the government. Or you will have cheap overseas imports, putting the local farms out of business.
Shipping is going to change over the next few years.
Pandemics Will come again. Then when the shortages start, people WILL starve.
Most politicians only look till the next election cycle. The power hungry of all parties.
Farmers tend to look generational. This is the problem in our system.

It would be great if those of us who live in rural areas are represented by intelligent businessmen and professionals who have actually done a real job before they go into politics. I would happily work for someone like Harry, but not the MP for the Tory-held constituency I live in.
The Tories don't care about agriculture, as long as they can kid enough people who live in rural areas to vote for them. Some of them are even arguing that agriculture does not contribute enough to the economy and this country should model itself on Singapore, which imports almost all its food. A chilling prospect that thousands of farmers may soon follow miners and steelworkers into oblivion.

If we don't support our farmers and they quit, the Chinese will be buying up our farms like they have in Australia.
The Aussies have now woken up and smelt the coffee but it's too late now. China own many of their Cattle ranch's, dairy farms, arable farms and abattoirs and they supply China not Australia. That's beside the minerals they are mining and shipping back to China and the University's and schools they have a massive influence in due to cash bribes. I'm English and have been researching this for a few years. Australia didn't see it coming, the farmers were just glad to sell their failing farms. Hopefully with this CCP virus opening everyone's eyes, Britain won't fall into the same trap. A few U.K. companies have sold out to China but not enough to destroy our whole economy unlike Australia.

I agree with your view about the CV19 pandemic...one of the key learnings should be that this country needs to be more self sufficient and good responsible farmers like yourself should be encouraged to grow more food for our own needs. Contracting out to other countries is irresponsible & leaves you desperate for goods when things go wrong and we are not making things for ourselves as we have seen. 👍🏻

Another excellent Video Harry. I'm sure all of us remember the Horse meat scandal a few years ago when a certain Supermarket chain was found to be buying cheap 'Beef' from abroad which turned out to be Horse meat that was not meant to go into the food chain. We now buy all our meat from our local Butchers. Since the Lockdown we have made the decision to get our bread from the local Bakers and our veg from the Greengrocers. It might cost a bit more but tastes a whole lot better and also helps to keep these smaller shops in business. I didn't realise until fairly recently that the bread in Supermarkets is steamed not baked!!! If we have buy all our food from abroad not only will the quality be suspect we could be held to ransom over the price of it.

And every hard working, producing person will pay less for food if you removed the taxes for the farmers as well. "Who would employ a foreign born analphabet (illiterate)", as a Swedish social worker from Filipstad said on state controlled television some years ago.

In my country we pride ourselves of having possibly the cleanest food in the EU since we use a very low amount of pesticides, and it has shown during the pandemic that local food production is all suddenly very valuable, but are people prepared to pay more for it?
The struggle here is much the same as for you.. If people would have to pay the actual prices for growing and processing the yield, there would be an outcry!

Loving this series of informative videos. Getting the perspective of farmers from what seems a well-informed source without an obvious agenda is so useful in helping cut through the political goings on that grab the headlines. It’s also entertaining, perhaps not in a Clarkson style but with a reassuring, authoritative and casual approach.

Watching your channel has made me so much more conscious of the weather , given that I am about 40 miles from your place. It rained, I thought "yay, harrys farm needs this". And that 44mm was heavy, gutters and drains blocked but now its lovely😀. So, can I stop Mrs D from stocking up on bread flour? And having watched the whole of the video I know you don't have a clue!! Nice one harry!!

Excellent, informative and interesting, as always. Glad the rain seems to have done the trick at last. It’s a real gamble, farming, and best of luck with the Government.... BTW, That bike sounds gorgeous. Sure must be an enjoyable part of getting around the farm!

You explained that so well. I'm a farmer in Ireland and it makes us as cross seeing all the shite coming into Ireland from far flung places. Huge amount of co2 from air miles and screws up the rain forests

I remember Belgian beef coming into the country many years ago , the Vet called it turbo beef because it was so full of steroids and growth hormones ! Let’s make very sure we don’t go back to that.

Belgian Blue is actually a breed of cattle...but get used to steroids, growth hormones, meat pumped full of antibiotics (to promote artificial growth), genetically modified crops, chlorinated chicken, etc, etc. Yes, some food prices may drop initially in the supermarkets, but cheap imports from the US will kill British Agriculture in a very short time.

Wonderful Harry, I bet you are the only person in the world who rides off road wearing a Patek Annual Calendar! I love that you don´t baby your watches, you give them the life they were designed for. I hope one of the complications watchmakers at Patek sees this as it will make them very happy to know their watch is being worn this way rather than gathering dust in a safe!

Your explanation of the figures is the best bit for me. I started watching this with NO IDEA at all how much this all makes but can see the risks of that business from the outset. Really is breadline stuff and not feasible if you don’t own the land
