There simply is no other car for that kind of money unless you like driving something powered by fossil juice.
First honest review I have found that does not grovel to the manufacturer and repeat ad verbatim everything the manufacturer says without actually validating the claims.
I got one around a month ago as a business car at my work. Everything Matt says I agree. About seat adjustments, it is really weird, to be honest, I'm 184cm in height and it's is almost too high for me, I can drive it without bumping my head, but it is close and it is a really weird feeling, not comfortable seating position at all. I average 13kw per 100km which is good for mixed driving.
I don't get the hate from reviewers about the audio control at the back of the steering wheel. Once you've gotten used to it after a few drives, it's fantastic.
It's hilarious reading all the Zoe-hating comments here, five months later, when we know that this became the best selling BEV in Europe 2020, beating Tesla Model 3. So these comments didn't age very well 😂😂😂
Some critique do have a point. Zoe has many shortcomings and its main advantage is that, it is quite "cheap". So there's a reason for its popularity not only in 2020 but in last 7 years actually. And I'm saying it as a Renault fan, who just bought new Megane. Car half that expensive with far superior features.
I think the wheel for the seat adjustment on 11:35 is not meant for you to put your full hand in and turn, but to push just from one point to make it turn. Like this ↙️ instead of this 🔄
Nobody ever charges from 0-100%. More realistic rapid charge timing would be how long it takes from 20-80% which is what you'd do on a roadtrip. It's probably about 40mins so a lunch stop at a service station.
Zoe is one of the few electric cars that may be able to AC charge at 3-phase 32 amps which is equal to 22KW. This is very useful in the city as many 11KW chargers will do 22KW if there is only one car at the charger.
Regarding the radio control behind the steering wheel, I own a Renault and a Mazda with the radio controls on the steering wheel and honestly, I prefer the radio control behind the steering wheel as Renault cars have. For me it's a plus.
Been excited about Zoe for a while. 52 kWh battery is something that can actually cover distance in the cold already. Other small and cheap electric cars like e-Up or Leaf usually have absolute rubbish for batteries, and are just designed for going to shop and back, while for any 150 km journey in the winter you would need to actually stop for the iconic "lunch break" of the EV crowd, and that is a big turn off for someone used to driving a 560 km range Swift that reloads in 3 minutes. But not the Zoe, it should clear 220 km in winter highway conditions. I doubt it manages that, but even if it managed 180 km, it would still be miles better than many of the competition. An older 24 kWh Leaf will be empty in the winter in about 70 km or something... Useless!
Sorry but i cant agree about the radio buttons behind the steering wheel. It’s the best thing ever. When I drive in any other car I always miss them. You just remember where wverything is and the layout is so clever that you can remember everything in like 10 minutes.
Matt bro did abit of a stoopid moment on the backdoor handle, the thumb is smart because the majority of the time it's not you sitting in the back so safe to assume they would be unfamiliar with the door mechanism
2:50 I don't agree Matt, the bumper looks fine. It's the fake diffuser and most of all the fake vents in a bumper that make it look cheap and plasticky
Matt corrections. Renault never had cruise control behind the steering wheel. That's Merc ,Audi and Peugeot and Citroen. Just by the way the satellite radio is good where it is. It's intuitive for most RENAULT owners. Once you are used to it, you'll use it absentmindedly
I had a Zoe ZE40 for three years, cost less than £18k after discounts (battery included). The ZE50 is an improvement but way more expensive and I am therefore not tempted. I test drove the E208 and prefer it but still way too expensive.
One of my main issues with many of the cheap EVs is that they tend to look more like something out of a sci-fi movie than a normal car. In other words: I want my car to look like a car.
It is a really bad car. I had one for a year, the on board computer is useless, so as the navigation. Lots of cheap and annoying solution. In winter less than 100 miles, if you going highway with heating less than 75. Wasn't able to do a Luton pickup from North London??? Front headlight was useless, AC was like your upper body is sweating and your leg is freezing. I bought a cheaper 6 years older Lexus Hybrid, 100 times better in every single way.
I recently read a real winter test of electric cars in the Northern Europe. The heating system was so inadequate that at a certain temperature (around -15°c) the car just wouldn't get warm. In the end it was by far the worst of the available electric cars, but this new one probably fixes some of those problems.
@@I_THE_ME Its not really a new one, just a mild facelift (in my opinion). It is not cheap but so many annoying and cheap short cut solutions all around the car... Unreal. Also I had a full black out on the screen, they sent me a renault pen-drive from France to reinstall the car system??? I saw a YT test 2 months ago and same thing happened to this facelift version. Really do the 17” really make a big difference over the 16”?
Remember, the Zoé is electric from scratch like the Teslas , unlike the "electrified" mini and 208 or golf
Always better like that
208 is from scratch also, it's a brand new platform
@@Olliemon 🤡
I got one around a month ago as a business car at my work.
Everything Matt says I agree.
About seat adjustments, it is really weird, to be honest, I'm 184cm in height and it's is almost too high for me, I can drive it without bumping my head, but it is close and it is a really weird feeling, not comfortable seating position at all.
I average 13kw per 100km which is good for mixed driving.
Mat: *complains for 10 minutes straight* “...and that brings me on to 5 annoying things about the Zoe!”
Yeah, seemed to complain more about the ZOE than show what’s good about it from the get go.
I don't get the hate from reviewers about the audio control at the back of the steering wheel. Once you've gotten used to it after a few drives, it's fantastic.
Me when I find out school starts next week: 2:28
bruhhhhhhh i started school 3 weeks ago😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
aksel23 1 3 weeks????? I started yesterday😂😂😂😂
Jay M 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 i live in norway. our summer vacation started june 18 and lastetd to august 15
aksel23 1 oh right well even here in the UK with Rona we missed a solid 7 months of no school😂😂😂
Jay M yes we were in lockdown before the vacation but we had school at home
Mat Watson is the best in cars
14:26 THIS IS THE SAME FOR ALL ELECTRIC CARS
The braking energy has to go somewhere
I love how Mat throws parcel shells that are unable to be stored properly
Like this ↙️ instead of this 🔄
Still waiting for the review of the Mercedes-AMG GLE63s coupé
Nobody ever charges from 0-100%. More realistic rapid charge timing would be how long it takes from 20-80% which is what you'd do on a roadtrip. It's probably about 40mins so a lunch stop at a service station.
I drive the old zoe at work really fun littel car! 😁
I disagree with your verdict.
10:03 "Five annoying things"??? There was already ten annoying things about zoe :)
Stereo control behind the steering wheel is brilliant, Ford has it as well. You! should know the whole point is to not need to look at the controls.
9:20 imagine how old is this video consider that Math has the S10+(for people who don't know Math one month ago buy an S20)
Maths it's fun
It’s a shame they don’t sell this in the US. :(
Hey Carwow, how much can I save on that electric scooter through carwow.co.uk? 🤔
LOL
1£
-1000$
@@anjuswarup2947 that one was going like 12 tops. Commuter Escooters don't cost much.
Zoe is one of the few electric cars that may be able to AC charge at 3-phase 32 amps which is equal to 22KW. This is very useful in the city as many 11KW chargers will do 22KW if there is only one car at the charger.
Is "faux leather" not just vinyl, like base model cars had in the 70s and 80s?
Pretty much
No, it's not.
Love your content carwow, you inspired me to start my own youtube channel.
Thank you for motivation.
The amount of adds in these vids is getting ludicrous
You can get YT premium for $9/month and you won't have any adds...
@@A.Dude. imagine paying to use RUclips
Regarding the radio control behind the steering wheel, I own a Renault and a Mazda with the radio controls on the steering wheel and honestly, I prefer the radio control behind the steering wheel as Renault cars have. For me it's a plus.
Maserati just released a new supercar so this wasn't really the video I was expecting
This is an excellent review. Maybe next year I'll get one. I was planning to get a 2019 model, but then this gem was shown. I'm ecstatic right now.
Imagine this as a hot hatch. That would be amazing.
They made a one-off last year, absolute monster, just search Zoe 460 hp on RUclips.
John - TESLA is making a Hot Hatch in 2023 !!!!
Useless!
Pretty sure those 15inch standard wheels were steelies 👀
16 inch alloys, none of them come in steel. You need the iD 3 for that!
Great review, I prefer to know all the negatives rather than find them out after the sale.
Video starts: *mat rides scooter*
My young brother:*demonic screech intensifies* mum where's my scooter!!!!
Sorry but i cant agree about the radio buttons behind the steering wheel. It’s the best thing ever. When I drive in any other car I always miss them. You just remember where wverything is and the layout is so clever that you can remember everything in like 10 minutes.
He just wanted to flex his galaxy s10 plus
Matt bro did abit of a stoopid moment on the backdoor handle, the thumb is smart because the majority of the time it's not you sitting in the back so safe to assume they would be unfamiliar with the door mechanism
So, this EV is primarily being marketed to urban dwellers?
I'm glad Zoe is selling well and has a strong market, but I could never buy such a small car ...
Mat watson, please review the new maserati Sports car. Big fan ♥️
2:50 I don't agree Matt, the bumper looks fine. It's the fake diffuser and most of all the fake vents in a bumper that make it look cheap and plasticky
carwow should really include "km" even as a popup
Matt corrections. Renault never had cruise control behind the steering wheel. That's Merc ,Audi and Peugeot and Citroen. Just by the way the satellite radio is good where it is. It's intuitive for most RENAULT owners. Once you are used to it, you'll use it absentmindedly
That charger plugged looks like an oxygen provider for COVID-19 patients
I had a Zoe ZE40 for three years, cost less than £18k after discounts (battery included). The ZE50 is an improvement but way more expensive and I am therefore not tempted. I test drove the E208 and prefer it but still way too expensive.
seriously 33k euro no thank you
That’s $54,000k in Australia that’s overpriced
Car wow wouldnt be the same without mat!FAX
@Sadman Islam true but if someone else was there instead of mat it wouldnt be the smae
Same*
okay everyone how’s this for an idea, mat vs yianni on, wait for it...MOBILITY SCOOTERS
One of my main issues with many of the cheap EVs is that they tend to look more like something out of a sci-fi movie than a normal car.
In other words: I want my car to look like a car.
The new Zoe and the new Leaf sure do look like nice regular cars, especially from the front.
The interior is miles better than 1st gen. plus surprised the resolution of the Speedo was pretty high
This car could be the first one where carwow can actually do 20 Negative things about Zoe..
I feel like this is the best small electric car out there
It is a really bad car.
I mean seriously renault?
Doesn't sound like the same car to me. Sure you had a 2020 version? 🙄
@@Mark__A We traded in our 2018 40kw model for this new 50kw one, honestly it feels and drives like a completely different car. Even the central screen and computer are not that bad at all. Maybe it doesn't feel premium *enough* yet for the price point, but it's a much better attempt than the previous one. At times for me it feels a lot like the BMW i3. Vibes
@@TomHarleUK I'm glad its getting better, but honestly a 30k car which is outperformed in every single way by a half price super reliable hybrid Lexus? Our Zoe, 40kw don't have an armrest at all, I needed to go back to the dealership to buy one, it wasn't even on the options list. No alarm at all, the triangle window was smashed Christmas eve in front of my house, and the Zoe said please feel free to open the door and take what ever you like. My 20 years old Volvo V70 if its locked, you stick one finger inside trough the window, alarm. Smashing the window? Still unable to open because the door handle unhooks it self after locking. Battery out? No problem there is a hidden secondary battery in it. Summer? You sweating apart from your toes, they freezing. Winter? No range, no heating. Headlights? Way too weak. Interior quality? Non existent. It was good to use between 10 to 20 degrees, in town. B roads or motorway? Forget the overtaking. It was too much for me, I sold it put back 4k on my account and from the rest bought a Lexus which is amazing in every single way. Still doing the regen braking, EV mode, 60+ MPG in town. Every single button, function you can feel the engineering. They tried it many times to make it better and better. It is from a different universe for sure. Not to mention no option for memory seats on an electric car? Ahhh I'm sorry to say but I glad its gone.
Renault never had a lever for cruise control, it always has been on the steering wheel Mat
30K for A crappy little electric thing, it’s so cheap inside for a 30K car! Rip off! Just my opinion too so plz don’t take offence, I’m a huge petrol head anyway I don’t mind if you like the car. I do like the idea though so there’s one good thing
You guys have a lot more options for electric cars than us in the US
it looks like it had been stung by a bee
Mat and Yianni should review a car together. One that they both don't like or they each take a car they both like and compete.
Who else thinks of a vegan yoga instructor when you see this car?
