The Expanse deserves all the praise it gets and more, one part of the show that i dont see getting as much praise is the soundtrack, Clinton Shorter really worked magic in creating it. there are SO many great pieces from across the seasons.
@@dmacbass absolutely! i cant think of a single sci-fi besides BSG thats had a sountrack thats as good as The Expanse. i am a Huge fan of Djwadi's work on GoT (the only thing that stayed continually good in GoT) but now i am certain that Shorter's work on The Expanse is better, WAY better
@@maxilos1987 Thrones had an outstanding main theme but to me the rest of the music wasn't quite as memorable. Certainly not bad, but it didn't grab me like some scores have. Seductive, dangerous and highly deceptive. In the end, all that he promises only divides the Belters further than they have been before. But his words make you feel like everything is perfect.
Marco’s leitmotif, heard here, and every time he wins a battle is just a flawless bit of music, you can hear the egotism, the anger and the narcissistic fury all wrapped into a musical language
They did a really good job of Marco in this series. Gives you a genuine feeling of being distraught. Like an actual terrorist attack has just happened. I guess the equivalent modern day of what Marco did would be the twin towers (but worse) followed by something like pearl harbour.
It was actually more than "just" a terrorist attack... in essence, it was a real attempt at genocide and eradication of Earthers. The show didn't dive too deep into it (save for a few scenes at the start of S6 by Avassarala), but in the books you get a better sense of what's happening: in truth, hadn't it been for the early detection of the remaining stealth rocks, then most likely the entirety of Earth's biome would've been completely devasted by the strikes, and whoever couldn't evacuate the planet would die off. As devastating as the impacts were, it's the aftermath that is the real horror. His speech about recognizing Earth and Mars' right to exist is inline with his tendency to play off any hiccups in his plans as being part of the plan. Truly a horrifying character, and the actor did an amazing job at it.
Clinton Shorter's job was in the background for most of season 1-3, but I really started to notice the soundtrack from season 4 and onward. Maybe it was because we, the audience, was no longer around civilization, but out on the frontier all of a sudden, but to me it really felt like Clinton got better and better, and the music became more and more epic. Especially "Ilus' Theme" and "Marco's Theme" are haunting.
Looking back on it you’re right. I never noticed the soundtrack from seasons 1-3, although I did notice the soundtrack during shocking or sad parts. Season 4 did stand out that’s why I’ve been looking and waiting for season 5 to release.

@@DylanSkie unintentional or not, the mix is incredibly appropriate the way you did it. Yeah, I’m fixing on Mr. Shorter’s music tonight, it’s been a rough few weeks working from home. 🤔😎
@@DylanSkie No actual track, more that it gives off the vibe of BSG and could fit in with that show. The way it builds up at the end like the song Martial Law in BSG.
Beautiful track! I love how it goes from sombre to triumphant over the course of Marco's speech. By the end you're practically rooting with him. Dude's got charisma, gotta give him that.
And honestly, Marco had a point. That's how you know it's good writing, when you can have believable characters. The only reason why he failed and the only reason he is flawed is because he needed to be the "bad guy" in the plot. So, the plot naturally gave him very obviously bad qualities. He was robbed of being a truly complex character, and he'd be much more menacing if he were a real person with even more believable qualities. THAT's what makes him so dangerous
@@DianeJudithRP Just after they show Baltimore in episode 8 I realized it sounds very similar to "Gotham's Reckoning," by Hans Zimmer in The Dark Knight Rises (which is here on RUclips). When Amos was walking up those steps with Clarissa, it felt like Bane was arriving on the scene.
The final section is so damn good. And when I heard it again in episode 10 I nearly cried.
