    I said back in late February (comment to 1 of your videos) that I would be planting mostly root crops outdoors this year because of the weather pattern we're in. I'm extremely happy to see that this thinking is correct. You're about 10 weeks ahead of us here in Western NYS and your root crops are AMAZING!!!
    My indoor (garage) experiment with LED grow lights is under way and doing very well (mostly tomatoes and peppers) that I don't believe will do well outside this year.
    Danny please consider this: If I'm correct, the Summer will be very very dry most of the time, but when the rain comes there will be an over abundance of rain all over the USA. Both conditions will make the harvest a poor one this year and prices will skyrocket unless we are ready for it. How can we keep crops watered during the dry times and remove water quickly (and store the water) from our fields when the flooding rains come??? I would appreciate any thoughts you might have.

    Just put 4 rows about 5 feet long of turnips in a week or so ago here in northwestern Arkansas. Sprouting now. Temperatures have been staying fairly cool most of the spring here as well, and of course were still getting the occasional night freeze- typical of this time of year. Great for these types of crops. I've never eaten turnips before so I'm very excited to try them. What do they taste like in your opinion? Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it!

      It would be like eating Kale or mustard greens. Just a little bit different in taste. The roots make them sweeter when cooked together.

      I have canned 27 quarts in the past couple of days and 7 quarts a week ago. There are still nearly that many left in the field. So gonna be canning again in a week or two. Trying the refrigerator keeper for lettuce. Gonna see how long it lasts.

    When you buy Turnips in our grocery stores, the roots have been removed and you buy the greens and turnip roots separate. Those are nice looking Turnips.

  • @jeanskilling708
    @jeanskilling708 6 лет назад

    I canned the roots once they turned gray in the jar. So I either dry or freeze them now. Turnip greens are too tough to eat in my oplnion. I grow mustard greens or spinich . The chickens get the turnip greens. There must be something I'm doing wrong cooking them.

    DSH , it may take less effort/energy/time to dehydrate the tops/greens.
    Dehydrate uses less energy , less , jars, less energy to clean pressure cook equipment, etc.
    Leaves are one of the easiest items to dehydrate. But one would have to have a big dehydrator and keep it going 24/7 .
    And some how , all root crops have the same name "First"
