How to install ioRtCW and play Return to Castle Wolfenstein on modern computers

- IMPORTANT UPDATE: This video is old. Nowadays, you do not need to install ioRtCW like this. Instead, you just have to install the mod "RealRTCW" because it comes with ioRtCW (it is included).
The steps in this video:
Step 1: Go to Steam, buy, and install Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It doesn’t matter where you have it installed. This will be your original and first installation directory.
Step 2: Go to GitHub and the iortcw project folder github.com/ior...
Download the latest version.
Unzip it anywhere on your computer. I put it on my D-drive, in a folder that I call My-RtCW. This will be your second and separate installation directory. Don’t start the game yet.
Go back to the original and first installation directory. Open the Main folder. Copy all pk3-files. Go back to your iortcw installation, i.e., you second and separate installation directory. Paste the pk3-files into iortcw's Main folder
Go back to GitHub and the iortcw project folder github.com/ior...
This time, download and unzip the patch-data-141.zip into your iortcw folder. Your second and separate installation directory.
Finally, go to your iortcw installation folder (your second and separate installation directory) and start
• the iowolfsp file for single player
or
• iowolfmp for multiplayer

I'm having an issue. When I launch it, for some reason the game is bigger than my monitor and options only take me to controls.
ehm.. the github page says to extract the contents of patch_1.41 into the iortcw folder and not create a new folder
Thanks for your comment. I am often wrong. Sometimes it's a matter of trial and error, until it works. On a side note, I nowadays do not recommend ioRtCW as the solution. Instead, I recommend the mod RealRTCW, which comes with ioRtCW included.

Hey, thanks for the tutorial but i still have one problem. Apparently my opengl version is unsupported (i have 1.1.0 but it requires 1.2) even though im pretty sure i have newer opengl versions.
How do you change the fov? There is no option to change it and it was set very low.
I'm not at the computer right now but I'm quite sure it was: 1. Open the console. 2. Type /cg_fov 90 (or whatever value you want). 3) Press ENTER.
Could you compress the "main" Folder into a .zip file and Upload it and leave the Download link here?
I have in mind to package it and upload everything to moddb or similar, stay tuned.

I would appreciate your help here. Thanks to your video I managed to make it work, but I’m unable to play the game full screen. The closest I get to full screen is 1600x1000 16:10 video mode and it’s awkward because I see the rest of my desktop with icons around the game video in the background with taskbar at the bottom, I don’t seem to be able to fix this, any other video mode is either smaller or goes over my screen area. Is there a way to fix this? Your help would be appreciated 🙏
Hi! It's an old video. I do not recommend ioRtCW this way anymore. Instead, I suggest players buy RtCW from Steam (like before) and install the mod RealRTCW (also via Steam). This mod allows both vanilla RtCW and modern RtCW, and it comes with the ioRtCW tech included. You get ioRtCW with the mod :-) Hope your problems can be solved.
@@LoffysDomain thank you for your reply. Do I have to delete iortcw, to “undo” the installation or can I ignore it and just download RealRTCW from steam and install it?

Excellent! Glad it all works. The current version of RealRTCW is version 4, and I know they are working on version 5 that will be published in, I think, 2023/24.
Loffy, do you know anywhere I can download a copy of 'RtCW School of Horror'? It was created by Fuhrer Fox, I asked him for a copy but he said he'd abandoned the project and no longer had a copy of it.

Is there any way to launch the fixed game directly from Steam? maybe redirecting and renaming certain files?

Good question. I just assumed that it was free to play since it is quite an old game.
