Thank you for uploading this video, it brought back great memories of Crawley, I lived there from 1979-1988. I really miss it, Great people, even the skinhead I met at the Town center were nice guys after few insults.
Cant believe how much has changed. The town centre is barely recognisable but lots of memories there of shops etc and how quiet it was in comparison to now !!
Great video, Crawley was a great Town to be bought up in the 1960s/70s I'm glad I got out in 1989, and now have happy memories, It would have been good to see more of the shops that are no longer there, like Cloakes Records The town planners and developers ruined Crawley they should be ashamed of themselves.
I left Crawley a couple or so years later so this is how i remember it. Back later this September I think I will have a shock reading some of these comments.
You look at it now and the culture, town and many other things have changed ! I went there a few months back and didn't recognise it whatsoever ! The road layout is kinda the same but so many new buildings and streets it's unrecognisable
As other commentators have said, the number of changes in a mere 26 years is astonishing. One change for the worse: the train of slam-door stock that rattles past has 12 coaches, never seen today with far more passengers.
Crawley Town look totally different back in 1987😱 l was a 10 years old back then the biggest mistake that was made was shutting the original post office in Crawley and putting in WHSmith store .
Oh what a fantastic vid, me and my then husband lived in the house above audio systems shop in Hammer Yard with his family Remember one night watching out the window and some thief dived head first into what was then the chemist (now a sex shop) and 2 mins later running off with a sackful of medication lol
Used to be a nice town. Spencers road is gone now, and southern counties Garage. All knocked down for Asda so that the chavs and unmarried Mothers can get some cheap shopping.
Actually, very little has really changed. Crawley was a great place to grow up in, but it looked old and tired back then, never mind now! It used to be great, but has got progressively worse and has been dealt a fatal blow by mass immigration. Seems like a foreign land to me now.
What do you expect being a town next to one of the world's major airports? Believe it or not we had immigration in Crawley in the 80s. And with all its mod cons & keeping up with the times, Crawley may seem dated to a stuck in the mud, out of touch racist. To anyone else, it's still a great town!
happy days and great memories of long forgotten places
I'm so glad you filmed this, kept it and then uploaded it. This is a time I thought I'd never get back but thanks to you I can visit whenever I want.

The window display in the Surplus shop was the same as it was 20 or more years later when it eventually closed at that site.

I was born in crawley in 2002 and it was so different from now
I was born in Crawley hospital in 94 ... I agree 100%
Don't see too many Police on the beat now.
I see some 12 coach trains... occasionally in my commute, it's mostly 8 or 4 coaches though...
Are you a time traveler ?
The Cure from crawley ???

David Mcque stop complaining
David Mcque I call chavsda. Crawley was a nice town back then.., less people and friendlier back then.

@@paullondon6625 what does the airport have to do with it?
I love the video, but I hate racists, Go and find some stone to crawl under. You've spoilt a lovely film.
