    Fantastic that a visual document like this exists. Some might scoff at this concrete world, but to see a place you know so well, as you remember it being when you were ten is amazing. The bus depot where the Mall especially.

    I was living with my family in England at this time (we had moved from Scotland), and I often feel nostalgic for the 80s. I loved how back then simple pleasures kept us entertained for hours, and became exciting adventures.
    I liked seeing Littlewoods, Woolworths, yellow bins and the 80s cars in this video. Fond memories.

    This looks so much nicer than it is now, so much green around the town, now it’s all been built on.
    Some call it progress, i call it greed.

    The old library!! I remember, when I was 5 or 6, some woman getting out of the car and calling my dad a pig because she thought he had stolen her parking space. One of those random memories that I wish I could return to and see what actually happened!! Happy times in Crawley. Miss my town.

    This brings back lots of memories...my late father was living in Crawley then and I used to go there regularly to see him, he lived in West Green. Interesting to see again the big green opposite the fire station that is now carpeted with offices and flats. I'd forgotten about the old Tesco. I think Poundworld is there now, and the Co-op department store (now Wilko). Thank you for sharing this.

    The Memorial Gardens before the County Mall there was a car park and bus station you could pretty much see the train station from the Memorial Gardens back then.

    I was a Saturday (& Thursday evening) worker at Marks & Spencer during my A-levels back around that time. Knew every part of that building well, from rooftop to basement (ok, there was no basement....or was there!?). Great pay, fun times, great end-of-Saturday food bargains, staff discount (which got me a good deal on my first (& still only) real-world suit), good canteen etc.

    Crawley was amazing for jobs in 87, people would stand outside the job centre, offering jobs and handing out leaflets, saying don't bother going in there, we've got jobs on offer.

    As of 2020 this was 33 years ago. So I'm going to stick my neck out and say County Mall will be demolished and housing will take its place before we get to 2053. I'll be gone I expect (born in Crawley '63) but I'd put a tenner on it!

      It’s also a shame when you see how nice the Memorial Gardens were, back then. No drunks or stoners taking up every other bench! in fact, the whole town centre was just cleaner and more spacious.

    • @fukkingusernames
      @fukkingusernames Год назад +2

      They obviously had the idea to make it super convenient to put your litter in the correct place. However now we have more people, more litter and more cuts to services dealing with these types of things.
