At 2:10, this is not an NPC. This is a scale model that is used to ensure that areas are kept in scale for player characters. There is one for each race. NPCs are not capable of being stuck in an A-pose like that, as they will always default to the idle animation if not set to use any other.
Fun fact, Gilijim's and Isle of Dr.Lapidis existed long enough, they're still visible on the map that's shown at the beginning of the Vanilla WoW intro cinematic.
god i wish i were a blizzard employee in 2003 staying up until 3am working on areas thatll never be used in the game and being powered entirely by breast milk

Pretty sure wow devs have said that the larger island was supposed to be a raid where the final boss was a mad scientist that did experiments on the island.
We so need a WOW 2, a classic version revamped, Season of discovery but with all this cut content and more. Should be so hard for blizz to develop it using this 2000 engine?
The Island of Doctor Lapidis seems like obvious reference to "The Island of Doctor Moreau", probably with some voodoo stuff mixed in due to trolls (ruins) and possible references to "Voodoo Island" and San Monique island from "Live and Let Die" (and probably few more).
Played some beta in original Everquest - races had varying degrees of enhanced night vision (Human had none). One of the first things that amazed me was seeing a player equip a light source, then run up a distant hillside. Long after I was unable to see the player, I could make out the glow of his "wisp." Loved it. It takes a lot more than that to amaze now...
Really cool to see. The A-pose humans are usually used during development by level designers to get a sense of scale while sculping the world geometry and placing/scaling doodads (the cart, the ruins, bridges/stairs etc.).
Probably a mixture of both. It's strange to think about how it was nearly 20 years ago, but nothing has really come close to the experience of leveling through the old zones again. It's such a somber feeling, occasionally hitching a portal back to SW, flying out to Elwynn before parking my main in Goldshire, logging out in the inn. The music, the atmosphere, the ambience. It'll never be the same again.
I agree and understand this feeling. I want that experience to be back so hard but it's like pandoras box was opened and there is no way to get it back.
@@Lionimia As a new player I can confirm it's your experience and you're more nostalgic about that part of your life, instead of the game itself. I enjoy it a LOT, but even so I find myself being more nostalgic and "affectionate" towards my chilhood game (Metin2) which was objectively SO much worse. The only thing you can do is move on and find another game, rinse and repeat. Metin2 isn't the same anymore, classic servers for it don't hit the same either. You can't bring that feeling back, because you have ALL this game knowledge you can't just forget, so automatically your experience is different. WoW is great, but most of you see it through nostalgia rose tinted goggles, just like I do for Metin2. There's games just as nice out there, I have fond memories of different mmos, like BDO or FF14 and even New World. For me classic wow was a blast (actually, Cataclysm is my favourite so far). Because I didn't know shit about the game, exploring was fun, westfall, duskwood, darkshore were downright amazing for me. I went around talking to people, asking for help (because it's nicer than googling it yourself). I honestly think I felt similar to how you guys felt when you started this game, entertained but confused, making friends left and right so you can learn the game better, taking your time with things, enjoying the little stories. It won't ever hit the same, because you already know all this. So if you're playing just to get that feeling back, then that's a waste of time.
For me it's the more simple yet challenging aspects of gameplay for Vanilla. When Classic came out in 2018 I was having more fun than in Retail. I was having a blast with Classic until Cata Classic came out, it is still fun but a major change like that made it more like Retail so it lost a large chunk of its magic.
I'm still upset Blizzard has yet to implement a tribute to him. Considering the changes in the company the past few years, I'm doubting they will even think about it.
@@janchovanec8624 Really the only thing keeping them together is that Metzen came back, but even he is taking on a more hands off approach with PR compared to how he was previously
I'm gonna guess that those naked human models were placed down for scale. It's a simple trick to avoid spending hours making an area and realizing afterwards that you accidentally made it massive or tiny
They have those exact Npcs as .m2 or .wmo, which are game object or doodads in the data files under the name scaletest so I think that’s exactly what they are for.
I wonder if the islands are still out there, but underwater. Isle of Dread is still off the coast of Feralas, underwater. Teldrassil is still out there under the burned tree image, it's just flattened into the ground and all the objects removed. I'm sure these islands would be harder to see since there's no defined roads or landmarks to see, but I think you'd still be able to see the paths and areas where encampments were placed.
the custom zones in twow are neat but i kept experiencing this bug on the islands where i couldnt loot mobs. if you can get around it though they are really good at filling in the 50-60 bracket. i did almost die on HC to a caster on lapidis though lol
The zones of those two islands made it to vanilla. It was possible to swim/exploit across the ocean in STV to get to where the islands were. The Islands were removed but you could zone into their zones.
I distinctly remember seeing a small island called Balor off the coast of Stormwind on a Warcraft 1 or 2 map. My head canon makes me think the island was a Naval Base for the kingdom.
It's a shame those islands weren't finished and made available in the live version of the game, they would have served as excellent hubs for endgame content. I was actually surprised they weren't considered to be brought back during BFA since that served as the effectively served as the "South Seas expansion" in some ways. Especially more odd considering Island Expeditions was a thing, since they also used that to bring back Crestfall.

Inner Fire increasing attack power is a call back to Warcraft 3 where the Priest unit's inner fire buff increased a unit's attack damage by 20% or something similar
After like doing everything in WoW i ever wanted and beyond with mods and even some weird pretty corky servers i thought i would never get that itch again. Yet.. here we are again watching the trusty WoW content companion Madseason… and i love it! Thanks guy ^^
First of all, thank you for the great content that you have been doing several years now. It has been a real pleasure to be with you nearly from the very beginning. I would like to share an experience regarding an access to unfinished zone that I found during the early Burning Crusade era. Sorry that I can't remember the exact patch. I was leveling in the north part of the Redridge canyons near the place where you can find the Howler. Somewhere around there (sorry about the uncertainty, this happened longtime ago) I managed to jump from fallen tree trunk (so I recall) to a ledge and jump my way all the way to the peak of the northernmost wall of that canyon. This jumping did not include any “pixeljumping” since I didn’t know that even existed back then. From the top of the wall I could see vast unfinished area north of Redrige. I didn’t dare to jump on to it, being afraid of getting banned, but I took screenshots. Unfortunately the disk those pictures were on, has then been corrupted and pictures are inaccessible. The reason I tell this is that I haven’t ever found any related video showing this or entering the area. The jumping access was also removed in the further patches, since I remember going to the exact place later on and one of the ledges was missing. Sorry this post got too lengthy, but I really wish to hear whether there is someone who has done the same/if there is a video showing this area. All the best to all of you, especially to you Mads.
Be wary of being disconnected there if you're HC! I think the place is slightly unstable so the game might throw you out, even though the server is running. I'm glad I tried re-logging quickly...
We have "dark" areas now in Delves. There are certain Delves where you are carrying a "candle" buff in order to see stuff around the room and be able to see NPCs. Without the buff the whole area is "shadowyer" and you can only only see NPCs if you are in a small range to them (5yds).
Regarding Priest Melee, there was an unintended side effect of the Inner Fire spell granting attack power. Although they removed the tooltip information stating as such, if you put talent points into Improved Inner Fire during classic and vanilla wow, you would gain attack power when Inner Fire was active. And for some reason, when you had Improved Inner Fire active, if you used a Juju Might from the Winterspring Ekkos on other players, they would gain more than the ordinary attack power from the buff. Left over side effect it seems.
This is such an awesome series. Please keep it up. @madseasonshow have you ever talk about the Alcatraz island on off the coast of dustwallow marsh with the mad gnome scientist?
played the islands on turtle. They did a great job getting content into the zones but the islands themselves are pretty difficult to navigate. There were a lot of areas where if you fell off it would take a 5 minute swim to get back to where you were once before.
Also, Inner Fire is a spell for the Human's Priest unit, which also increased attack power for units it was cast on, so maybe there was some warcraft 3 carryover there.
Maaaaan I can't tell you how happy it makes me that you still post from time-to-time.. every time I hear your intro it takes me back to when I first found your stuff and binged it 4-5 years ago!! Love what you do sir!
They should release an unrelased Classic server with the spells they decided to prune and adding content to places that are currently empty just for fun.
11:54 In Classic era if a priest with improved Inner Fire gives Juju Might to another player (e.g. hunter) I think they get bonus attack power. I guess this explains why.
I feel like the Island of Doctor Lapidis was going to be AT LEAST an elite area / "outdoor dungeon" (as they were referred to internally) if not an actual raid/dungeon itself. There seems to be many stage / alter style platforms that would usually be places that you'd get high level elites like the Trolls in Hinterlands. Some areas look very similar to boss platforms from ZG and Zul Farak too like the snake boss one from ZG and the Witchdoctor from ZF. Another thing that makes me think this is how they purposely blocked the ruins so you could only get in and out one way. And I don't think it was just placeholder either because they blocked it with rubble that fit the scenery perfectly so it seemed like that was intended to be blocked. It suggests to me there was some sort of grand prize or "final boss" at the end that they didn't want you to skip directly to. I obviously could be completely wrong but the layout to me just screams outdoor dungeon / elite area especially when compared to the way Gillijims Isle is laid out from the same time period. That island more closely resembles a questing zone IMO. Would love to know what exactly was planned but tbh even the people working on it probably didn't know exactly what the final plan was or they have forgotten by now sadly :(
wasn't that island part of the immortal warrior quest who defeated all the enemy's by him self. He told a tall story of his achievements. You would play him as the character and have that thing that would kill all enemy's on.
I always thought the attack power bonus on Inner Fire was a callback to the Warcraft 3's Inner Fire spell priests had that did the same thing (bonus armor + attack damage)
To me it always seemed that the giant nautilus temple from the vanilla dragon isles images (and the designer island map) was meant to go on the north end of the Isle of Doctor Lapidis. You can see where it would fit in to the terrain (huge brown flat area). Wonder if anyone able to place the model there can tell me if it actually fits.
I love these videos, but they sadden me. We will never ever see that content, if they would use it they would ruin it witj modern gameplay. My girlfriend will never know I cry about this fact every day

MadSeasons the best. Appreciate yet another fantastic video man 🔥🔥🔥
the doctors island makes me wonder if that was a proto-type zandalar, its in about the same area and all the troll 'ruins' lead me to think this
My memory is foggy from not playing in a long while, but isn't that the same layout from the troll ruins on the northwest STV?
Bubblegum Thrall made me lol
I love these videos, but they sadden me. We will never ever see that content, if they would use it they would ruin it witj modern gameplay. My girlfriend will never know I cry about this fact every day
I too have a wife that will never see my tears 😢
You can see these islands in Turtle WoW
Exactly this. Come to Turtle for the lost and cut off content.
WoW boomer much

Gilligan's Island was from the 60s, not the 70s.

3:41 is BLURSED 😂
Thank you MadSeason!
When are you going to stream again, mate?
Feels good to watch one of these types of videos and actually see something you've never seen before.
Your point about the +Str cloth items made me thing: Back in Vanilla I found a shield with +Arcane Damage, but no shield-using classes at the time had any spells which used Arcane Damage. Could that have been a similar thing?
These islands look more Like an oger raid than an actual area
