The reason Demetrius got kicked off of the Gamecocks football team in 05 is because yes he fail a drug test but also he wasn't going to class his GPA was very low he was treating it like he was still in high school Lou Holtz recruiting him and he can get over because Lou Holtz that was Lou Holtz his prized recruit at the time so when Spurrier got there that was not his guy so when he saw that this dude wasn't doing what he was supposed to do and he's not productive on the field he sent them packing

As a lifelong Gamecock fan, I can say this was our biggest disappointment. The hype, as you can imagine, was unreal when we got him. He was supposed to be for us what Reggie Bush would later be for USC or Adrian Peterson later for Oklahoma. Really is a shame but definitely his fault. On a side note, the weird thing is we had a similar situation a couple years before we got him. Derek Watson was one of the top RB recruits in the country in 1999 and signed with the Gamecocks. He actually had more success than Summers on the field but was kicked off the team after his Junior year for the same reason as Summers. He also played in the CFL and spent multiple years in jail for selling drugs. Sound familiar? Would be worth doing another video on.

Gifted athletes are special, but you sometimes can bust through from poverty and be quite good professionally and not get trapped in the poverty neighborhood.
Unfortunately, not all gifted athletes break from poverty and the ole Hood. Some drift back to their comfort zone because that's all they knew.
That is the sad story of the NFL, and NBA. Athletes coming from poverty can't break away from this mindset and once their affluent segment of their life ends. BINGO, many a pro athlete returns back to the poverty mistakes they came from.
What do the describe, 2/3rds of poverty came from athletes return to poverty before their 40's are completed. That's a sad statement.
This guy in this story is no different than many poverty, single Mom home situations. They don't know better because no Dad was there to set the young man straight.
3/4 or more of Black Males come from single Mom family homes.
This guy had a world at his feet, but no direction, no focus, nobody to relate to. I think Mike Tyson talks about this same sort of situation in his life.

I went to Lexington and was several years ahead of meat... He was a varsity player I believe as a freshman. A freshman... He was a beast. I played in a few pick up games of basketball with him and he was just incredibly gifted as an athlete.
You know you live and you learn. And unfortunately for meat, his lesson learned was too little too late to turn his football career into something with what it should have been.
But great video subject. If even one kid learns from meats mistakes, then this video did it's job. I hope cuz is at least happy in life. You know he lives in regret. But hope he's doing good.

2003 was the time the NCAA was witch hunting of schools going over their morals of what all the major colleges and Universities were doing to compete for the recruits of cash handouts, hiding incidents concerning bad behavior towards other students, and faking grades for eligibility for playing of star players. NCAA was handing out serious punishments for any school that has been caught doing such actions and with Spurrier and FL the NCAA was investigating him at SC on a serious note and to prevent the school of being caught they must of had no choice but to kick him off the team to save their asses from million dollar fines and being banned from tv, bowls, ect. Younger adults now must understand this of how College football was so corrupted back then and when 2003 came around the NCAA was handing out serious punishments of it.

Went to my high school. a good many years before me but heard stories about him. had the most consecutive 100 yard games in high school history when he left. second on that list was emmit smith. pretty funny. but he also allegedly would go home after school and chill, then the school bus would pick him up from his house to take him to the football games later that day. after everything happened, i saw him a few times around the rec centers shooting basketball and that's when i found out who he was. sad story.

I think the headline was a little sensationalized. From the headline I kept waiting for this horrible thing like he assaulted a woman and then it's a failed test for Mary J.

There are a number of commenters that have never had to deal with life on a daily basis until adulthood. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion but perhaps society should stop viewing 15-22 year old young men as role models, based solely on the young man or woman's athletic ability. The real shame in this situation is that he's probably suffering from CTE or depression. And to a broader, more important note; Crimes have victims. Either real property or real people. How much time did his customers get? If I buy bleach and drink it does Target go to prison?

Excellent video -- a DEFINITE "thumb's-upper!!! One thing though, At one point you sad "pacific" when the word you should've said is "specific." This is meant as a help and not a criticism. That aside, I just subscribed to your channel and clicked on the bell icon to receive all of the updates. Please keep up the outstanding work.

None of this makes any sense. The only thing that could explain this story is smoking crack, and an inability to ever stop. No other form of any drug would not only make him undraftable, but cause him to quit trying. The answer has to be that he never stopped smoking crack.
