    The title is mispelled. 'Toten' is the adjectival form for death in German. 'Totenblume' is a compound word, so it probably means 'Deathblossom' rather than 'dead flower'.

    • @zosi1639
      @zosi1639 6 лет назад +9

      Yeah, it'd only be totem if it were describing a masculine or neuter noun in dative form, and it's clearly not in dative form and Blume iirc is female, in that case should it be "Tote Blume"? Sorry if I'm wrong, still learning the language.

    • @xkyawla
      @xkyawla 6 лет назад +26

      Actually, 'Totem' is a word in German too, meaning the same thing as in English. So either that's a typo - 'Tote Blume' for 'Dead Flower' or 'Totenblume' for 'Flower of the Dead', or it's intended and quiet literally says 'Totem Flower'

    • @Atlas_Invictus
      @Atlas_Invictus 5 лет назад +16

      @@xkyawla the Katakana in the song title says "Totenblume" when translated, and put like that it means "Flower of the Dead" or "Deads Flower", since "Toten" makes the flower in the "blume" part appear to be in the possession of the "Toten" (the dead, can be singular or plural in this case.)

    • @mochischwap8191
      @mochischwap8191 4 года назад +5

      @@Atlas_Invictus Im also german and I think that with 'Totem' a literal totem is meant. You can google what a totem is, but since it is supposed to have some ancient magical meaning I think that the literal word "totem" goes well, since umineko was all about witches and magic too

    • @AndrewVasirov

      @@Atlas_Invictus I believe it is a transliteration mistake then, sometimes nb gets transliterated as mb, line Nanbu -> Nambu.

    So the name of the song is actually German. That's really interesting because I was always wondering if Erika (which is a German name originally I guess) wasn't associated with this song. Wouldn't she be the dead flower ?

    • @Fabiocean2000
      @Fabiocean2000 4 года назад +22

      Funnily enough, Erika is actually the name of a flower in german, even though the name itself has become so commonplace that even many germans don't know this.

    • @drz655
      @drz655 3 года назад +2

      Erika is also name in Japan. It's not that often but it is. What the name in Japanese means or if they are just big German fans I don't know. But yeah erika was a commen German name in like..the 20s or something but no one give there child now such a old fashion name. Also the actual name erika is probably not German like all the classic "German names"

      @@nekoenjoyer yeah I know and wasn't the full name bernkastel in higurashi also Frederika bernkastel? that's why I love the whole dynamic between those 3 characters. Frederika represents all the negative emotions of Rika and also all the people who only want to think logically and ignore feelings. Erika on the other side was a chance to for those people to be on the island and to rootlessly solve all the mysteries. I mean lambda is the same. Miyo takano>lambda delta>zwei drei vier

  • @infinitystop7822
    @infinitystop7822 9 лет назад +33

    @enkephalin
    No, it isnt XD
    First of all, a Totem is something completely different from "Tod" (death). It has nothing to do with with tot (dead), Tod (death), der Tote (the dead) or anything related to death for that matter. The word exists in English as well, and in german its "Totem", yes, with an "m" at the end. Ill quote wiki for you:
    "A totem is a spirit being, sacred object, or symbol that serves as an emblem of a group of people, such as a family, clan, lineage, or tribe."
    So a Totemblume (though I'd prefer to write that together), is a flower that symbolizes a family. For Umineko, that would be the rose that represents the Ushiromiyas, of course.
    And the rest of your comment is wrong as well. "Totenblume" would be a compound, yes, but it would then consist of the noun "der Tote" (the dead (person)) and the noun "Blume" (flower). And "Totenblume" would translate to "flower of dead persons" (but noone would use this word) and not to "deathblossom". "deathblossom" would be "Todesblume".

      Infinity Stop
      The thing is, there are two other uploads of this song both titled "Totenblume/Todesblume," so in this case, the title might actually just be wrong.

    • @IchCharacter
      @IchCharacter 7 лет назад +6

      "Totenblume" would rather be a flower for the dead, like flowers you would put in the casket or on the grave. Both words and interpretations wouldn't be entirely unfitting, I suppose.
