Barry Pepper was such a remarkable Bobby Kennedy! 👏🏻Nothing against Kinnear, he did good, but Pepper's RFK was the actual leading character. The way Marilyn Monroe was depicted in The Kennedys however was beneath inauthentic. It was a cliché-ridden 'insatiable stupid blondie - caricature' mixed with some over the top Madonna meets Sharon Stone vibes. The real Norma Jean was a smart, hard-working woman with a strong sense of what was right and fair (like making sure black artists were allowed to perform in elitist white clubs, e.g. Ella Fitzgerald), who simply spent her life searching for the love and stability that she had been denied from the start. The latter made her anxious and lonely and also eccentric, but neither do I buy that she was dumb nor naive (those features were just part of a lifelong role she switched on and off) nor that she would have harmed a fly, yet alone blackmailed a government. ... Not the actress's fault though, she clearly just did exactly what she got told.

@@paulinempouma9300 She was. Look at footage of the real Marilyn, like from The Misfits set. She was nothing like this portrayal. She would have never behaved like that at the Lawford's beach house. There are plenty of photos of her there, always dressed down. It was a place for her to escape not have to have a spotlight on her. She also was very smart and that created a lot of the conflict with her Hollywood image. One can easily see the appeal of the real Marilyn in footage of her but these fictional portrayals make her out to be something completely different, lacking everything that made her who she actually was. Girl, if Marilyn was smart she would've been smarter in her choice of who to sleep with. Marilyn like her mother wasn't sane and seem to get worse with age.
I do not like how Marilyn is portrayed here. Yes she had her affairs and such but she was a very hurt woman ~ child who was very needy due to her awful sexually abused childhood, being thrown into foster home to foster home, married at sixteen, and passed from man to man that in those days was the way you got ahead in show business if you were beautiful. Marilyn was suffering bipolar and schizophrenia as her mother and grandmother had. MM deserved much more sympathy and empathy then this.
What an awful, awful portrait of MM. The acting is horrific, she doesn't look, resembles or even sounds like her at all, MM is portrayed as a cheap slut (which I'm sure she wasn't, at least not THIS cheap). I know a few people who actually knew her (not friends just people who have seen her or were at a party where she was at same point, actors, directors, in London where she lived briefly in 1956) and they all told me she was very, very shy, wouldn't really mingle because of it, just stayed in a corner on her own, aloof, like a little girl... lol the actress looks more like GaGa than Marilyn, but she attempted the voice well... Barry Pepper was fantastic as Bobby, for me he and Tom Wilkinson were the stars, but I think they all deserve a 'best ensemble cast' award. Best Miniseries I've seen in a while.
Marilyn said once (something like) I don't make love, unless I do love. Marilyn only made love to the people she genuinely had feelings for. i think she had feelings for JFK and Robert as she would continually ring their house to go out on dates. marilyn only ever wanted to be loved and give love :( but, we all know how JFK treated her. (and there isn't any real evidence to prove a fling with Robert)
@76reliant - she did not consent to be in Playboy, she was on a calendar called Golden Dreams and received $50 to pose. She had nothing to do with Playboy except Hugh launched his magazine with her picture which was taken for the calendar, which he purchased after the fact. She never got to approve or have any say about being in Playboy.
yall are tripping, i think she played the shit out of this role, and i also think she looks like her, also Marilyn was this crazy, believe it or not, it came from childhood depression most of it. she was lovely tho, I hate that they treated her like this
Honestly, I don't think Charlotte Sullivan's portrayal was too bad, but I think it falls where Miss Sullivan doesn't Monroe enough. She doesn't really sound like her nor does she seem to posses Monroe's innocent sexuality. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give Sullivan a 7.5. Personally, I think Michelle Williams gave the best portrayal of Monroe we've seen yet in the 2011 acclaimed film My Week with Marilyn. She certainly deserved her Oscar nomination, but she should have won it for sure.
Before everyone starts flaming her for the first scene she's in (with the pink dress), skip to 8:19 where her hair, clothes and entire mannerisms change. This scene felt much more real and less lulzy than her scenes with the pink dress. If anything, Charlotte's bewitching to watch. Inaccurate to the real Marilyn, but bewitching.
The portrayal of Marilyn Monroe was horrific in every way, I give you that, but the rest of the series including and especially Barry Pepper was pretty good!
"Say it! It's chowd'a! Chowd'a! I'll kill you, I'll kill all of you! Especially those in the jury!" At least this actress was hot, cuz Marilyn is the epitome of hotness, that's her claim to fame that matters among men. I can't stand actresses who are brainwashed into believing they should play Marilyn but who are not hot.. it's so annoying, like Michelle Williams, apparently people liked her performance, but she marginally qualifies as just cute.. it's like if Kurt Cobain were played by Justin Beiber, it misses the point even if females like the performance.
I didn't like the way Marilyn was portrayed either. It is basically a caricature, IMO. However, I did like the fact that they portrayed Bobby as having an interest in her, because of his brother's involvement, but no romantic involvement of his own. That just makes more sense, to me. It disappoints me, tremendously, that our beloved president would have been doing that. I guess he was following the example of his father, but that's not a good excuse.
After all the research I've done and stuff. I have to say that I liked Bobby way way way better than Jack. Bobby looked like he had a better head on his shoulders than Jack ever did.
What's so sad is that while he was in The Rat Pack and a Kennedy In Law, Peter Lawford was on top of the world. When the Rat Pack broke up so to speak and he and Patricia divorced, he was a shell of his former self. He attended the funeral of Cass Elliot who died 50 Years ago this year. Then his Son Christopher became a recovering addict, played Charlie on All My Children then also died.
Why are guys saying that these characters don't portray Marilyn Monroe or Robert Kennedy. We never knew them. Both of them could have been different in the public eye. Unfortunately, Marilyn did have an affair with JFK, I don't know for how long, but I believe these characters portrayed these characters the best they could, with the knowledge of Marilyn's and Roberts background. Marilyn loved champagne, so that ment being tipsy a lot of time and based on the interviews and her being a sex symbol
I don't think it's necessarily about looks. I mean lets be real Michelle Williams looks virtuaally nothing like Marilyn but her performance made you forget that. I don't think she's actually that bad I think she captures aspects of Marilyn's fragility&innocence. Only thing is that IMO Marilyn has to be sexy but she doesn't use it like a weapon crazy but not psycho gf. But then to be fair trying to play Marilyn is like trying to play Helen of Troy/Cleopatra an enigma wrapped in fact+fiction
The Kennedy men were lowlives. JFK usually scored starlets, moviestars or just girls because he wanted to impress his father, and then they were given to his brother Bobby. This was a pretty sick family.
the only person that can knows about herself is marilyn monroe. she is the one to say what really happend but unfortunatly she is no longer here with us. so please people when you read about her or see a documentary in the book only about 10% about her is in their but the rest is what people believed of what happend and the documentary is about her and other people that knew her as well. so don't judge her just leave her alone and rest in the heavens with god.

Love you Marilyn Monroe 🕊️🙏
Barry Pepper’s performance as Bobby Kennedy is this miniseries’ only redeeming quality.
Wasn't he good? I rememberwatching this and thinking ''He's the best thing about this''.
Kennedys meet Showgirls :)))))))
More like Madonna than anything else
lol the actress looks more like GaGa than Marilyn, but she attempted the voice well... Barry Pepper was fantastic as Bobby, for me he and Tom Wilkinson were the stars, but I think they all deserve a 'best ensemble cast' award. Best Miniseries I've seen in a while.
ACTOR BERRY PEPPER IS HANDSOME AS BOBBY!!!
I know!! I thought I was the only one to think that lol 😂
Oh the truth is on its way
Remember we were only taught lies
@76reliant - she did not consent to be in Playboy, she was on a calendar called Golden Dreams and received $50 to pose. She had nothing to do with Playboy except Hugh launched his magazine with her picture which was taken for the calendar, which he purchased after the fact. She never got to approve or have any say about being in Playboy.
yall are tripping, i think she played the shit out of this role, and i also think she looks like her, also Marilyn was this crazy, believe it or not, it came from childhood depression most of it. she was lovely tho, I hate that they treated her like this
You know the recoding of Marilyn saying "just don't make me look like a joke" I feel this kind of thing was what she was talking about.
She gets the last laugh, I PROMISE.😁
Honestly, I don't think Charlotte Sullivan's portrayal was too bad, but I think it falls where Miss Sullivan doesn't Monroe enough. She doesn't really sound like her nor does she seem to posses Monroe's innocent sexuality. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give Sullivan a 7.5. Personally, I think Michelle Williams gave the best portrayal of Monroe we've seen yet in the 2011 acclaimed film My Week with Marilyn. She certainly deserved her Oscar nomination, but she should have won it for sure.
Michelle is beautiful but she was very bad as Marilyn
Yes, She should have. I've never heard of Charlotte Sullivan.
I laughed when Peter gave the thumbs up
They did Bobby so well!
HE COULDN,T TELL HER HISSELF HE HAD TOO ASK HIS BROTHER
This was kinda of a hateful portrayal, the way they pictured her... "He doesn't cheat on his wife" lol. The whole series was so bad
The acting was phenomenal. Maybe not Marilyn, but Barry pepper Tom Wilkinson and Greg kinnear were outstanding.
They hated she.
The portrayal of Marilyn Monroe was horrific in every way, I give you that, but the rest of the series including and especially Barry Pepper was pretty good!
AW MAN POOR MARILYN R.I.P I AHTE THE WAY THEY MADE HER OUT TO BE ON HERE
I’d love to be Marilyn, Jack AND Bobby? Damn 🔥
"Say it! It's chowd'a! Chowd'a! I'll kill you, I'll kill all of you! Especially those in the jury!"
At least this actress was hot, cuz Marilyn is the epitome of hotness, that's her claim to fame that matters among men.
More like the Kennedys in Marilyn Monroe. HEYO!
😂😂Now that's comedy!!
He might have but he still cheated on his wife all the time
@@dianejohnson5216 Bobby did not, Jack did
What's so sad is that while he was in The Rat Pack and a Kennedy In Law, Peter Lawford was on top of the world. When the Rat Pack broke up so to speak and he and Patricia divorced, he was a shell of his former self. He attended the funeral of Cass Elliot who died 50 Years ago this year. Then his Son Christopher became a recovering addict, played Charlie on All My Children then also died.
If her life was like that, she was like any character from her movies.
She was to good for them to bad there was no one to counsel her and tell her walk away from that garbage 📌
OH PLEASE... he was the fucking president!!! If he wanted marilyn out of the picture that would have been no problem.... (oh wait...)
Funny but I don't think that he would've done that
Bobby was a badass. RIP
He wasn't a badass, he had them working for him.
barry is awesome
i didnt expect that ending :)
well done!!!
@tototirenama, she did date him. I saw a documentary on the Kennedys and it does say that both JFK and RFK dated Marilyn Monroe.
Barry Pepper is fantastic in this, but the woman playing Marylin Monroe did not master her voice.
I like Michelle Williams in "My week with Marilyn"
The Kennedy men were lowlives. JFK usually scored starlets, moviestars or just girls because he wanted to impress his father, and then they were given to his brother Bobby. This was a pretty sick family.
She is so beautiful that a socialite like jackie kennedy is jealous of her...
She slept with her husband. Get a grip.
@@mvvx313 Totally and Marilyn Monroe even bragged to Jackie on the phone about Jack marrying her.
the only person that can knows about herself is marilyn monroe. she is the one to say what really happend but unfortunatly she is no longer here with us. so please people when you read about her or see a documentary in the book only about 10% about her is in their but the rest is what people believed of what happend and the documentary is about her and other people that knew her as well. so don't judge her just leave her alone and rest in the heavens with god.
