@dreabeaudet2872, I agree. I, also, liked what JFK, Jr.'s, Uncle, Sen. Ted Kennedy, said at the funeral: "I, thought that (this) Kennedy, would live to comb gray hairs, with his beloved, Carolyn, by his side."😢 It's amazing, that I still remember some of Senator Ted Kennedy's, excerpts, from the funeral of his young nephew, John-John, in July, 1999. It is really a shame, that the Kennedy family, have endured so many tragedies, between 1944-2020.😔
These tragedies, include a lobotomy; plane crashes; assassinations; car accidents, resulting in a passenger drowning, after the car, accidentally, went off of a bridge, into the water; and another passenger paralyzed, years later, in a different car accident, by a different driver; alleged drug overdoses; an alleged rape accusation, which led to an (acquittal) at Trial; skiing accident, via colliding with a tree; alleged affair with (teenager) babysitter; in-law's affair with (maid), resulting in birth of a male child; leg amputation, due to Cancer; a hanging death, by an ex-wife; and (2) drownings, simultaneously, while attempting to retrieve a ball, as their small boat overturned, allegedly, by way of a small rogue wave. I, will continue to pray for this family.🙏

I so enjoyed this very personal look into this celebration of love! Over the years I had the distinct pleasure of seeing John as a perfect stranger and his charismatic presence and demeanor were always what stood out to me as he matured. My first personal glimpse was in 1974 on an Olympic Airliner in Athens Greece . The military junta had invaded Cyprus and Onassis who owned Olympic had arranged for Caroline, John and their Security detail to board the last flight out of Athens to New York. I boarded with them as well as I had been studying at the American University and was eager to get home. John must have been about 13/14 years old and had a too large camera with a very long lense slung around his neck. Although a little gangly he was a tow headed teenager who appeared to be very precocious! Years later I was working in NY City in the 1980s on Wall Street as a Lawyer and I would often run into John on the subway on my way to work when he was working for the DA’s office. We would greet each other or smile with recognition even though we were complete strangers! John had so much more presence and was extremely handsome, much more so than can be seen in his pictures. He carried himself with grace and confidence. You could just tell he was a lovely man! Also, he was often seen on his racing bike. Although I didn’t know him personally, I felt a great loss when I heard of his death and that of his wife and sister in law. May they all Rest in Eternal Peace.

@@katarinasteffek5342 Not going there. Not when this family has always been known to be stubbornly self-destructive. There's a episode in which JFK's Mom Jackie berated him for endangering the life of his then-girlfriend Christine Haag. Even though the GF didn't want to accompany John when he invited her to go kayaking, he guilted her into it, and then, his arrogance got both of them in a really dangerous situation that nearly killed them both. He liked the adrenaline rush of "walking that fine line," like most of the men in the Kennedy family, and it did finally catch up with him--otherwise, he would have accepted his pilot instructor's offer to accompany him that very night that he killed himself, his wife, and his sister-in-law. John declined the instructor's offer and said he could do it on his own. That's called hubris, not "being" eliminated.

The location, the tiny church, the gospel singer, the small guest list, the informalities, the quirks, the hasty preparation right before the ceremony was scheduled to begin, the "happy accidents" all made it feel real, relatable, and not so manufactured. So many people go out of their way these days to have unconventional weddings, but no amount of planning and coordination could reproduce the magic of this wedding.

Beautiful wedding, lousy marriage. If you listen to more impartial sources it's clear John had resigned himself to divorce when he and his wife died, two months short of their third wedding anniversary. The frequent fights they had as boyfriend/girlfriend, only worsened once they were husband and wife, along with her cocaine addiction.
Carolyn Bessette was controlling, possessive and impossible to live with (in fact at the time of their deaths, they did not live together). They were not soul mates as this puff-piece pretends, they were totally incompatible! Her mood swings were extreme, and not surprisingly his family and friends worried about the union. This video is bogus, sentimental garbage, constructed around a wedding video JFK Jr's friend sold for a handsome 30 pieces of silver. Breaking News - every couple looks happy on their wedding day. It doesn't mean the marriage will last!
Carolyn loathed the added media attention she got as Mrs John F Kennedy. And she hated being one of the wives forced to attend regular gatherings of the Kennedy clan. Once the ring was on her finger, she no longer entertained John's talk of planning a family. She told him the 'goldfish bowl' they lived in was no place to bring a child into.
The last year of their marriage was celibate, as she refused point blank to sleep with him. He moved into a hotel, so they were effectively separated for the final 12 months of their lives. Nonetheless he remained faithful to her, and hoped against hope things would improve. They attended couples counselling, but a desolate John confided in friends his marriage - like his magazine 'George' - was headed for the rocks. Carolyn's paranoia worsened, fuelled by her increasing cocaine abuse.
The Kennedy-Bessette marriage was on borrowed time, with both parties dissatisfied and resentful of the other. Ironically Carolyn had considered crying off the fateful Kennedy wedding, after their latest explosive fight. If she had cancelled, they and her sister Lauren, might be alive today. Carolyn arrived at the airport late, delaying the flight so it became a perilous journey in the dark, in which John lost spacial awareness and control of the plane. Fatefully, she chose a rapprochement with her husband, encouraged by Lauren, who accompanied them to smooth their reunion. John declining his instructor's offer to fly with them, and his recently fractured ankle, were likely other contributing factors. As we know, the result was the deaths of all three.
That appalling tragedy brings huge poignancy to the wedding video. But no one should be under any illusions this was a perfect match. The bottom line is the marriage that looks magical on video wouldn't have survived, even if John and Carolyn had.

Please do some research - JFK Jr and Carolyn Bessette's marriage was on the rocks when they were tragically killed, along with her sister. It was not the fairy tale marriage this ridiculous, sentimental so-called 'documentary' pretends - far from it. Carolyn's narcissistic rages, controlling, possessive behaviour and cocaine abuse (which fuelled her innate paranoia), made her impossible to live with.
They died just 2 months short of their third wedding anniversary, and had been living apart for a year. Carolyn had refused to have sex with her husband for all that time, and was increasingly dependant on cocaine. John had always spoken of his desire to have children, but once the ring was on her finger, she refused to talk about it, saying she would not bring a child into the 'goldfish bowl' they lived in. She loathed the heightened media attention she got as Mrs John Kennedy, and hated being one of the wives expected to attend regular social gatherings of the Kennedy clan.
John remained faithful to her, and held on to hope things would get better as they attended couples' counselling. But he confided in friends the relationship was doomed. Mutual resentment, disappointment and distrust was steadily driving them further apart. It's clear the marriage would not have survived, even if they had.
I've provided only some of the details. The failure of the Kennedy-Bessette marriage is well documented, as a quick online search will confirm!

In an age that chronicles events more than just living in the moment this wedding captured a bygone spirit of simple fellowship. The creak of the old floors , the simple spiritual, Amazing Grace, and the shadowed room is haunting in its simplicity and beauty.I remember seeing wedding photos in People magazine and felt John and Carolyn showed the world a new kind of wedding spareness and elegance.

Thank you so much for this documentary. Billy Noonan, I am glad John had you for a friend. I am so happy you shared this part of his life. For many Americans who were old enough to remember when he was born, and witness him 3 years later salute his fathers casket, we just wanted him and his sister to be ok for the rest of their lives. He should have lived to be and old man and have children and grandchildren. My heart is forever broken for this man and all who had the chance to know and love him, and be his friend. He was Americas son. There will never be another like him. Thank you.

Back then, I lived up on the UWS on 68th at CPW. I saw him once or twice, and I thought he was cute, but not as gorgeous as everyone made him out to be. I was several years younger than him, so I thought, "meh, he's almost middle-aged" (read: 35). lol Plus, it was weird to me that a man "his age" rode around NYC on a bicycle? Looking back, it was probably one of the few times he got to be alone.
Today, as a 55-year-old woman, I look back and think that he really was a very handsome man. When you're in your 20s, 35 years old and older seem much older than they really are. lol Even when he died, just before my 31st birthday, I still thought he was middle age, as he was almost 40.
He really inherited a lot of his mother's good looks because his father certainly wasn't that handsome, but he sure had a nice wildly thick head of hair.
I feel so bad for the Bissett family who lost both their daughters, and his sister who not only lost her father and mother, but then her little brother, and all by the time she was 40 years old. It must have devastated these people.

But I was star-struck by your beautiful Carolyn, and I am glad that her wonderful nature was captured in this video. She really demonstrated that simple elegance is in a class of it's own. The fact that she wanted a wedding like this - that JFK jnr went to such lengths to arrange it for her - speaks volumes about their true nature.
