I just purchased the Carenado Embraer Phenom 100 and I watched all three videos you posted. I just wanted to say thank you for doing that. It was a big help to me learning how to fly this plane. P.S. This is my first payware plane. A lot different from FSX default planes.
+SmokeStack684 Hi SmokeStack684! I'm glad you found these videos to help you out with the learning curve. Carenado provides minimal documentation, so there is a lot of trial and error to work out the various procedures for the G1000. This is a great plane to fly if your just getting your feet wet with more complex high performance aircraft. The Phenom is designed to with a lot of automation in the complex systems to reduce the workload for a single pilot. Just set all the switches in the '"auto" position and your good to go! Enjoy! You were right. This is a great Plane. Unlike the Carenado TBM850, this plane is easy peezy. Very user friendly. Specifically the A/P works like its supposed to without disengaging itself. I'm NOT a jet pilot at all but was able to jump in this bird and take it from MYNN to KOPF under 7 thousand ft and setup an approach and hand land it. One complaint is the MFD requires much preflight study.. wish I could shoehorn the Flight1 GTN750 to replace it.

Hi, At the time I recorded this video I was using FRAPS, FS Recorder, Audacity, and Sony Vegus. I have recently switched to Elgato for recording the video in lieu of FRAPS. Fraps will knock the frame rates down whereas Elgato does not. Hope that helps, Best regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

Yes, Fraps or Elgato to record (capture) the flight, Audacity for audio, FS Recorder records the aircraft parameters so that the flight can be replayed. That is how I add in many of the external views. Sony Vegus for final editing everything together and rendering for RUclips upload. It's a process to be reckoned with for sure. You have to be part fanatical to pull it all together. (I am). Hope that helps, best from Tim G., FS MaNiA
Your video series Phenom 100 & 300 are simply the best! After watching the 100 series I purchased the Carenado plane...had a little problem with the install but after turning off all protection software got it to run and love it. Still learning the ropes but videos help a lot! I am going to have to build a better computer CPU & GPU to slow at times...just wondered what CPU & GPU are you using? Thanks

I really liked working with the Jetline guys in Florida. They build systems designed to run flight simulator well. My system is going on 3 years old and it still gets the job done. I may upgrade my GPU at some point, however, FSX loves the CPU more than the GPU.
I have been flying with the boxed version of FSX however, I am in the process of transitioning to FSX Steam Edition. It is giving me a chance to update a lot of my addon products and take advantage of some of the new updates the Dovetail folks have implemented to the sim. So far it is working out very well.

Love you videos, very informative and helpful learning the various aspects of the jets. I noticed you plugged in the ILS frequency for KAPA, not your destination airport. Did you do that for a specific reason? I may have missed something, but wanted to make sure. Thanks again, keep the videos going.
+smjj08 Hi smjj08! Thanks for your comment and question. From vague memory of this flight,,, I probably plugged the KAPA ILS in as a standard IFR departure procedure. The purpose for doing that is to be ready to return to the departure airport in the event of an emergency shortly after take-off. Having the ILS frequency preset helps keep a single pilot ahead of the aircraft especially if he has his hands full dealing with an emergency.
It's been over a year since I recorded this video, but I am pretty sure that's the reason. I would typically tune the destination airport ILS and Comm frequencies en-route prior to descent.

At first I thought you were saying "rails into the sky"? I actually understand that and have heard simmers remark that a lot of the aircraft fly like they are on rails. I recently bought this plane. I am usually a hardcore SE-GA -piston flyer, but wanted an easy jet to play with and also to get better picture of the G1000. As a plane this would be great, it would be awesome actually, but the carenado model is not too great. With most addons i get 60fps, with this, 20-40 most of the time. Manuals are mostly very poor. The level of detail on the model is good enough though. Interesting to see how many hours will i fly this plane.
Hi Lazengogh, Your comment pretty much sums up the Carenado business model. They focus far more on the visual quality of the model than accurately modeling the avionics and systems. It is virtually impossible to fly their complex aircraft by the book. I usually improvise and compromise to to find procedures that will get the job done. Folks have been complaining about their manuals for a long time to no avail. Fortunately their are other developers who take their models to a much higher level of realism.

Hello Capt. Boone! I have a Saitek X-55 Rihno HOTAS controller. I also use FSUIPC. I am constantly adjusting very slight tweaks to my settings to get the feel of plane to suit. I think FSUIPC is really good for fine tuning. I'm not an expert in this area, hence the continual tweaks. Mostly trial & error. Good day Fs Mania . Congratulations for your Tutorial . I just speak English and Portuguese OK ? I have bought Carenado Phenom 100 but I have a problem when I start to plan my flight plan. First of all I click on PROG bottom in my MFD. It appears a window named PROCEDURES with the options : ACTIVATE VECTOR, ACTIVATE APPROACH, SELECT APPROACH, SELECT ARRIVAL and SELECT DEPARTURE. I use the outer knob bottom to select departure but neither SELECT ARRIVAL and SELECT DEPARTURE are not highlighted in blue color so can not be selected on my MFD , Why not ? Is it necessary to have NAVIGRAPH EXTENSION PACK installed to acess SELECT ARRIVAL and SELECT DEPARTURE options ? P.s = My simulator is FSX STEAM EDITION ( Original ) . I hope you could give me some help . Thanks a lot
Yes you are correct. You must have Navigraph and the Carenado Extension Pack (as I recall) in order to enable Departure and Arrival Procedures in the Garmin G1000. You will find Navigraph well worth the investment as it provides up to date real world highly detailed navigation data for Flight Simulation. I hope this helps. Kindest regards, Tim

Hello Joshua, LiveATC.net found here: www.liveatc.net/feedindex.php They have live stream feeds for most major airports and ARTCC (Centers). You can find feeds for the US, Canada, Europe, Oceania, Asia, South America, North & Central America, and Africa. I try to record a live feed from the airports I am flying into and out of during my actual flight. I think it adds a touch more realism than the FSX robotic ATC. May I ask where the Gulfstream seen in the video, is from? Is it unflyable or have you downloaded it from somewhere? Love the Phenom as well, but I'm looking for a realistic Gulfstream. Thanks!
+- Porscheeky - Hi Porscheeky! The Gulfstream is a static aircraft that is included in the Orbx scenery package. I too have searched for a realistic Gulfstream for flight simulator. Unfortunately it appears that Gulfstream is not willing to license a model which ties the hands of add on aircraft developers. I'm not sure what the reasons are, however, I expect they are trying to protect their jet design from industrial espionage?? Mikael Hi Michael,, The ATC chatter is from LiveATC.net. They may know who Froogle is, but I don't think they were talking about him on this frequency. It did in fact sound a bit like he said Frooglesim admittedly.

Hi Oscar, I would say this particular Garmin 1000 is a dumb version. The real world G1000 is way better than the one in the Carenado Phenom 100. The G1000 in the Carenado Phenom 300 is a little better, however, it still has issues. Maybe someday a developer will provide a much improved version of the G1000 or even better a G3000! FS MaNiA, your videos are just great! I have two quick questions for you. After engine start, I notice you mentioned you had forgotten to put the bleed on. When is the best time to turn it on? My other question is, will this guide to fly the Phenom 100, also work on the newly released Phenom 300? Keep up the fantastic videos!
Hey George, just ran across this comment in question. Sorry for the delay in answering. The best time to cut the bleeds on is after engine start if memory serves.

How do you get your taxiing so pinpoint perfect? Its great!
I find a point on the panel that lines the nose wheel with the taxi line. When I taxi the aircraft I concentrate on keeping the aircraft on the centerline. Try not to get distracted during taxi.
nope i reduced all visuals now running Phenom at 48fps. how can i set radio if i use little nav map for flight plan? i can't seem to figure it out.

Hi Matt, There should be a checklist of sorts in the Carenado Phenom 100 documentation. I typically modify the standard Carenado checklist to suit my taste. You can most likely find out much more information from the AVSIM User Forums under the Carenado, Phenom 100 thread. Hmmm...seems like a control issue with your sim.,,, or make sure both engines are running?

romee cor really sounds like a control calibration issue. Do you use FSUIPC? What type control do you use? It doesn't sound like an issue related to the aircraft model,,, have you had the problem with any other aircraft?

Well, it must be Phenom related issue. Rudder pedals moving by themselves seems strange. Here is my suggestion. Try uninstall and reinstall the Phenom. If you still have same problem, go to AVSIM Carenado Phenom 100 unofficial support forum. You need to sign in or sign up. No biggee ,, search the existing post to see if anyone posted similar problem,, if not, submit a post describing in as much detail as possible your issue. You will most likely get some good assistance. At the same time, you can also submit a support ticket to Carenado. They should and do provide assistance.

Does it really take half an hour to prepare a jet for flight? Half an hour!? I'm new to this. How can I learn all these aeronautical things?
Pre-flight preparation in reality takes much longer, route planning, weather briefing, pre-flight walk around, and setting up the cockpit. These are not things you want to skim over. When you fly the same aircraft repeatedly, your proficiency may speed up the cockpit work, but you still want to takeoff with an extremely thorough pre-flight plan.

Thanks for the info. I use to fly the FeelThere/Wilco CRJ200 and I was about 97% satisfied with it. There seems to be a bit of trash about the quality of Carenado's compared to FeelThere's. Trying to sift through the bunk. I look forward to your A2A vid!
Your welcome... there seems to always be trash talking about some flight sim product. Usually it is Carenado that gets the brunt of criticism. I think we have fairly high expectations for the developers to make it as real and perfect as possible. We have come a very long way from the first release of FS. I for one am very pleased with the available add ons. If only someone would simulate the smell of 100 octane avgas. Sweet! Cheers from Tim

+Sander Leszczynski Hi Sander, I typically list scenery add-on information under the video description. The Centennial Airport scenery is Orbx Freeware and the Jackson Hole Scenery is Orbx Payware. After watching your video series on the Phenom 100 I purchased and installed the Carenado version. However in Cold/Dark once I power on bot batteries and the GPU the Prodigy panels never come on? Any clues
Hi Jim, I haven't heard of anyone having that problem. I can perhaps point you in the right direction. I would first uninstall the aircraft and then reinstall. Sometimes that clears up these types of issues. If that doesn't work, you should immediately submit a "Support Ticket" on Carenado's website. They are usually fairly good about responding in a timely manner. You will need to be very specific about the issue to help them diagnose the problem. The other thing you can do is peform a search in the AVSIM "unofficial" Support Forum under the Carenado Phenom 100 forum. Put in some specific words that describe your issue, i.e., "blank PFD MFD". There is a good chance someone has had a similar problem and posted the issue in the forum. There are some very tech savy guys that provide excellent help in those forums.

Hi TwistedLemon, The short answer is no. You will have to adjust power settings to maintain desired climb, descent, and speed parameters.

Has anybody ever encountered the following problem:
I cannot clear the G1000 Startup Display. I press the corresponding key, like Mania does at 6:22....but the display only flashes and wont disappear. Underneath the system is alive though. If I press FPL before hitting the button to continue I can see the Flight Plan Window blink through in the brief moment the Startup Display flashes. It's driving me nuts.....
That's weird. check AVSIM Unofficial Carenado Support Forum. That is a great place for solving tech issues. Other then that, you can submit a support ticket at Carenado or try to uninstall and re-install. Hope this helps, Tim G., FS MaNiA
FS MaNiA found the solution on the AVSIM forums. Good thing you pointed me into that direction! Thanks! The problem was that the simulation got confused with the FSX keybind for the master avionics switch...which of course is not present in the Phenom 100. Just had to press SHIFT+M.
how can i set the Embraer in Cold and Dark?
Hello lanceloz8, Shift + 5 will bring up an information box detailing various available options, Shift + 6 will bring up an "Engine Setup" box that will allow you to select "Cold & Dark cockpit. Select Shift + 6 again to close the "Engine Setup". Hope that helps. Kindest Regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA
So How do I refuel this on P3D?? there is no option to enter PAX or Refuelling when the leg is finished?? any help on this matter I have tried everything

I just use the drop down aircraft/fuel menu in FSX to set the fuel and passenger load. It usually loads fully fueled as I recall?

pedro arthur pimentel Hi pedro, Thanks for your question. I would need a lot more information and time to begin to diagnose your problem. For example, what are your system specs and what add-on software are you running. Do you use EZdok? If so, be sure to run the EZdok Config tool after installing every new aircraft. Beyond that, I can highly recommend searching the AVSIM forums in the Carenado, Phenom forum for post on a problem that may be similar to yours. There is a wealth of information in that forum. I visit it often to troubleshoot problems. Also, you can submit a support ticket to Carenado directly with very specific information about your problem. Hope this is helpful to you. When I turn on the battery the fms does not turn on
Do you mean the MFD? It has been a long time since I flew this airplane so I can't remember all the particulars. The Garmin G1000 usually starts with the PFD only for engine start... then the MFD comes up and all the engine gauges transfer to the MFD when the avionics bus is energized. I cant remember that being the case for the Phenom's G1000? You more than likely have a glitch in the install. You may be able to solve with a re-install or contact Carenado Customer Support for assistance. Hope that helps... Cheers, Tim
