    I used to talk to Russell occasionally and one thing that stood out was that wherever he went, anywhere in the world, there were some local guitarists he wanted to check out if he had some extra time. Jimmy Gourley in Paris, Nelson Symonds and Sonny Greenwich in Montreal, Ed Bickert or Reg Schwager in Toronto. "I'm gonna go out and hear some Jimmy Gourley if I get a chance...." Huge ears, constant respect for colleagues.

      when you talk about Greenwich, Bickert and Symonds, these are some of local favorites of a friend of mine who lives i Montreal....

    I had the privilege of seeing him with Ron Carter and Donald Vega in Portland OR last night. You could have heard a pin drop during his solo rendition of Candle Light. So beautiful…such skill and passion.

    A master. One of his influences had to have been Wes. The warm deep tone is reminiscent of Wes and there is an occasional phrase or chordal voicing that brings Wes to mind, but otherwise his own man.

    • @louise_rose
      @louise_rose Год назад +1

      Yes, no doubt influenced by Wes Montgomery. I recognize this kind of tone and phrasing from Steve Howe, another great Wes fan.

      Looks like a L5 copy by Ibanez, from the late 1970s. There was some lawsuit over, these guitars being too close to Gibson.
