While not the worst computer in the world, it comes close. Cheap build quality, a lack of meaningful features, and abysmal value make this laptop a real "loser".
Performance on the notebook is fine - better than average for productivity notebooks in fact. But this is all hampered by an "industry worst" display. Using the machine will be frustrating and fatiguing. There is zero excuse for manufacturers to put in non-FHD displays these days yet Lenovo did regardless. Low res isn't its only failure either - from a general quality standpoint the display is lackluster in terms of brightness and backlight bleed.
Another big red flag is the build quality. Neglecting the fact that our test unit was malfunctioning out of the box (a first in a long time) the overall construction and materials of this notebook are hands down some of the worst. We do not feel this notebook will hold up well over time, and due to Lenovo's triage system on their entry level products, you'll be waiting a long time for in warranty repairs.
Its keyboard is pleasurable to type on and we think most people will have a good experience there. The full size numpad is also a big plus for those looking to do data entry. Speakers on the computer are also OK. We've heard much worse in other laptops; these are somewhere right in the middle. Audiophiles will need headphones for any meaningful audio listening. We'd argue the speakers are good enough to watch movies with, but the display is so bad, why would you want to?
Battery life on it is paltry. We can't imagine most people will get more than 4-5 hours practically speaking. I/O on the laptop is decent with the exception that it's missing a USB-C port which may be a deal breaker for some. While USB-C is still a "luxury" we feel it's getting close to a necessity.
There is simply no reason to buy the Lenovo Ideapad 3. It's not the strongest, or the best built, or the most powerful, and doesn't have any meaningful features. It excels at nothing. As a result, we do not recommend buying the Lenovo Ideapad 3. Even if you're after something cheap, a beater, or on a fixed budget, there are better options available.

i bought one last year because i didnt know anything about laptops and it was what i could afford. im in university studying cs now and it's literally driving me insane. it heats up very quickly and it lags soooo so much . i can't install any progams and when i do it takes ages for it to open or do any basic tasks. the only time when it works fine is when im not using it for it's intended purposes lol. he was right saying it's for grandmas. at first it was working fine for example it didnt take long to start or to shut down didnt heat up at all didnt lag . now not even a year later and it's working worse than the computer i had since i was 8 years old . Also as he said the hinges on the sides did get loose and i held them together with tape because there is no other option . i seriously do not recommand it espacially if it's your first pc or if you're going to college. there are so many affordable options that are better than this.
do you have any recommandations. ((no macbooks).i read that lenovo ideeapad 5 pro is great.)

The Lenovo Ideapad 3 actually has an FHD 300 nit option and an AMD 5 5500 processor, as well as backlighting and a fingerprint reader. I do not own one but certainly would take a look at it. Of course in no way is it $350 these days but I am not sure that this video captures much reality.

Thanks for the warnings on the screen. I do a lot of video editing and need a lightweight but strong notebook for travel. Anything from Acer for under $700 that has a good sharp screen?

    • @ComputerStuff
      @ComputerStuff  2 года назад

If you bump into the Aspire 5 you'll get some better quality screens. That said the IdeaPad 5 which you can snag in the $700 range has a far superior screen than the IdeaPad 3!

So you're saying this ideapad is a bad idea? I picked up the new improved Ideapad 3 with an 11th generation i5 processor, a touch screen, backlit keyboard, 12 megs of RAM and a USB-C port. The regular price is $619.99 but it was on sale at Best Buy for $429.99. So far it suits me fine.

You got it for a great price. It's not a bad idea per say. If you like it, it should be relatively reliable. I think that Lenovo has gone cheap on some of their parts namely their touchpads and LCDs, even in the Ideapad 5s. But Lenovo still makes fine computers and I hope you have a good experience with yours!

lol! Yes the lower model Ideapad 3. Old Intel i3? Isn't much of a value at the current pricing!
But, if you can get a deal on this. Say $399 for one with an AMD 5 5500U. 1080p FHD screen, fingerprint reader, and backlit keyboard, 8 GB RAM and a USB C. Well, that's not bad, not bad. But, they're not falling from the sky at this price, lol. Sure the build is not the sturdiest, but, it's not that flimsy! I've seen the HPs and they're really not much better, sturdier. Plus, mine spends a lot of time as a desktop unit with a 24" IPS FHD external display on which one can do video editing with color accuracy that far exceeds the Lenovo panel. Battery life is also OK, 8-9 hours. This version has the 45 watt battery not the smaller 35 watt option. Time will tell, of course. But, a decent amount of features here.
What can I say! I love a value! My daily machine is a Chromebook, super cheap, lol! But, WPs, email, Powerpoint, youtube, simple spreadsheets, etc. Cheap, fast, very portable-light and small. Did I mention it was cheap?
Frankly for everyday tasks, the Mediatek arm processor and its measly 4 GBs of RAM seem almost as fast my AMD 5 machine with twice the RAM, lol!
Of course, the Chromebook can't do certain things, hence the new Lenovo.

Sounds like you got yourself a great deal. Even better than me, lol
Lenovo seems to be using the same case for many different models.
I got mine for $650 with ryzen 7 5700u (8c/16t), 16GB 3200Mhz ram, 512GB nvme Samsung ssd, bigger and super nice trackpad, type C (data only), 15.6" FHD TN panel (I highly suggest that you use the Windows display calibration tool. It fixes the weird colors in less than a minute. Looks like crap out of the box).
It doesn't feel as cheap as he makes it sound. It's nothing amazing but it's sturdy enough, for now.
The speakers are decent, the keyboard is amazing (I might like it more than my mechanical ones, it feels so good), the camera is crap but usable for uni and work (love the privacy shutter). The battery life is not spectacular, it's about 7 hours maybe.
Port-wise it's alright. Laptops nowadays suck in this regard.
Mine has 1 type C 5Gbit, 1 type A 5Gbit, 1 type A 2.0, headphone/mic combo jack,Ethernet jack, and HDMI 1.4b (kinda unfortunate. It's not a problem now but it might be in the future since it only supports up to 4k 30Hz).
I wanted to upgrade the storage but the little sata cable not being included was a bigger problem than I thought. I need to pay 30+ bucks for it with shipping. No thanks.
It's light, portable and I'm super satisfied (especially after fixing the colors). Idk why the review seems so negative, might be due to the low specs.

@@ivangerginov5648 That's a good price for the hardware, especially the extra RAM. That's the one thing I'd like to have. Supposedly, this model only has one slot that takes an 8 GB stick so, I could go to 12 GB, which would certainly make a difference. 16 GBs, is the sweet spot though. I took a look at the calibration tool, I think but I couldn't see much of a difference on my laptop screen. It DID make a huge difference on the TEST screen in the app, though. And yes, 1.4 HDMI, might be a limit of sorts depending on how long one runs this, but time will tell.
Overall, I'm a fan of Lenovo products. This is actually replacing my nine year old Ideapad 5. I also have a Lenovo tablet and a Motorola phone (Lenovo group umbrella Corp,). All of these have been very reliable and good value devices.

I have the Lenovo Ideapad 3. Battery died after 13months. Battery warranty was on 12 months. and they're asking me to pay $200 for a replacement. Don't fall for this scam.

He's just telling it as he see's it. It's now Feb 2024, so I'm wondering if things have changed on this model? I can get one with a 1TB ssd and also it comes with a 1 TB HDD with 20 GB of ram. But the screen..... is it any better in quality, as the one I'm looking at is a FHD model? It's also an i5 1135G7 which is a big step up also. But as for screen quality - I'll have to look into that!
