kitty cats!
I have to agree the HSTs really show their age, they creak so much!
I've heard from depot staff that the actual metal of the mark 3s is literally rotting, so I'm surprised they operated for as many years as they did!
I, for one, appreciate all the cat related content in this video. I think all stations should have cats!
Yes: just as all pubs should have dogs. It is most fitting in each case!
Long ramps are good, as they mean they’re usually less steep which for wheelchair users is great. Not all ramps are wheelchair accessible, which I know sounds odd, but if they’re too steep, it can be dangerous and mean we can’t use them. Borough Green station for example. Their ramp on the London bound platform is so steep that I dislocated my shoulder trying to slowly go down it. Going up would be impossible without help, and I yet I can do pretty steep ramps (east Croydon for example I can do with a suitcase on my back!) so I’m glad I was at least going down it.
Exactly. I used to have this issue when I took my dad out in his wheelchair. Later on he got a mobility scooter, and even in that some of the public down-ramps were unusable for him because he didn't feel stable enough.
Then, I have no doubt you have experience of this too, when it's wet the problem only becomes worse with the reduction in grip!
Young Mr Badley has a definite pointless journey waiting for him in the north of Plymouth
I want to add my voice to the people saying more cats! That cat did remind me of my old cat, Katy. Have met friendly cats at a couple of stations.
Trust me, whenever I see a cat, I say hello!
A cat just jumped up on Jen, and she said hello!! ❤
There was a nice friendly cat that I remember at Newton St Cyres but from the last video and this one there are a lot of friendly cats in Devon.... expect for the one at Devonport. Bere Alston is a nice station as well, also has a Barnstaple feel, Great video Jen. Cannot wait to see more from Devon.
Brilliant video as always Jen!
But the cats are the icing on the cake!
More cat's please! 🙂👍
Evesham LMS used to be a similar distance from Evesham GWR, but the LMS station closed many years ago.
The Tamar Valley Line is in serious need
of some tender loving care
and an upgrade.
Yes, I recon an hourly service could easily be justified, and would bring with it TLC. It's a line that could very easily be used !
Heath High Level to Heath Low Level would be very close to 9 seconds. I'll time it one day.
Brilliant video Jen, the cats are cute but I'm no so sure the one at Davenport was a very nice cat lol. It would be nice to see the line up to Okehampton from Bere Alston restored as to would mean a diversion route for the Dawlish sea wall stretch of line.
Excellent video Jen
I think Devonport needs a "Beware of the cat" sign 😅
I think she was friendly at heart, perhaps just thought I was Cornish 🤣
The kitty was scared, 🥺
I knew the cat was going to do that! Reminds me of our cat, who does exactly the same, and occasionally bites as well!

I think historically the record for shortest distance between stations would have been held by Manchester Victoria and Manchester Exchange when it was open, you could walk from one station into the other along the 682m platform, you didnt have to even leave the platform.
Nice Video Also Class 150s 158s 165s 166s and HSTs Are Great 👍
im loving all the stations which do look lovely & quiet & it would be amazing to see the Taverstock line reopened in the future brilliant vlog
Thankyou!
Another great video! The burning question is whether the 1st cat covers both St Budeaux stations or just Ferry Road?
Any good cat can multitask 🙂
Kitty!!! 😻
Kidderminster and Kidderminster town are pretty close
Another great video Jen and even better with the cats! You appear to be nowhere near 11 foot tall, so you didn't need to worry!
Wigan to Wigan must be slightly more than 9 seconds. It's been a while since I did it!
Even though they're on separate lines, Catford to Catford Bridge is very short, as they're literally right next door to each other!
Can’t believe you didn’t get the Tamar ferry while you were there!
And hst are brilliant!
One for another day!
Anyway them stations looked interesting. Funny seeing the driver change the points.
Welcome to JenAndTheMeows!
Catford to Catford Bridge, Waterloo To Waterloo East must be fairly short walks
1:47 nick badley pointless journey
Happy New Year Jen!!! A great start to the year with another fab video. You're really making me want to just travel to a load of old train stations like these for picnics and the like. If only I could afford both the money and the time. Thank you for letting me do it vicariously through your videos!! xxxx 😃 ❤🧡💛💚💙🤎
I think the bridge height signs are for the height before the arch starts and the height at the points indicated by the white wood, as the arch changes the height along its arc.
I wonder if the two bridges themselves are different: one is 11'-3" at the white lines, while the other is 11'-0".
@@AaronOfMplsOh, that's a good point! That would explain why they're the other way around on the other side!
Thank you Jen, once again, for this railway discovery video! (and best wishes for 2024!)
I must admit I don't understand what the “token / red stop circle” system means.
And it's always lovely to be greeted by the presence of a cat in a railway station. ❤🐈
It's a very old type of signalling. There is literally a metal disc in the cabinet, that the train driver must obtain and keep with him to be on that section of the line. If the token is missing from the cupboard that means that there is already a train on that section and the driver must not pass the sign with the red circle.
These days they would probably have to contact the line controller for assistance if the token was missing, whereas in the past the token would be handed over by another member of staff who would be working at the station. (Back in the days when stations used to be staffed!)
I think this is accurate, but anyone who knows better please correct me. There are probably whole videos dedicated to how the system used to work on RUclips if you are interested in train history.
Jen,you could try Tamworth High Le evel and Low Level!
Great video, Jen. There is a plan to increase the number of trains down the Tamar Valley Line to potentially hourly. I think this is dependent on the line being extended back to Tavistock; but the plan would be to reopen a station at Plympton (eastern side of Plymouth - I used to live there!) and then have a sort of “intense” commuter service through all the Plymouth stations and up the TVL.
The interesting bit comes at Bere Alston - will they divide trains? Will they have two separate services? The branch to Gunnislake was built as a light railway and its average speed and tightness of curves etc makes the speed very slow. It’ll be interesting to see how it works!
If you think Davenport is bad, you should try waiting at Runcorn East at night 😬. Great video
Great video Jen always amazing content 👌
I had a look in the Southern Region timetable for 1963. Plymouth to Tavistock North took 35 minutes. Plymouth to Exeter Central, even on the fastest train, took TWO hours. Fifteen minutes spent at Okehampton joining up other parts of the Atlantic Coast Express.
Loved this and the cats. not gonna lie, this is superb content keep it up Jen ❤
2:29 rip 🪦 Felix
If the upper station still existed the walk between Middlewood Upper to Middlewood Lower would have been around 9 seconds.
Cornwall is such an amazing county with lots of places to visit by train. Will you be doing the Class 701 Arterio that South Western Railway have started using them in service.
that bridge near the end of the video is 11'3. i know because the sign thatvsaid 11'3 had a sticker over which means it was corrected, whereas the other one didnt
Why do I have a feeling a certain Nick Badley will be going to St Beadeaux for a Pointless Journey!
that is very strange.
I love your Janner pronunciation of "St Boodoh" rather than St Byoodoh. Named after St Budoc(k). The church was St Budock's and someone who thought they knew better decided to Frenchify it. Also known as St Buddox. I wonder what the cat's name is?
me who lived in hong kong:
ITS TAMAR!
OMG, I LIKE TAMAR
context: the governmental area in hong kong, there was a ship there called HMS Tamar and it got made into a shipyard, and then even the shipyard's scrapped and now its the governmental area in hong kong
I would suggest on the road to the bridges that 11ft should be on both side of the bridge at that height, additionally for long vehicles going down (up) hill the road could reduce the effective clearence (by more than 3in?)
IIRC the chippie at St Budeaux is pretty good.
I wonder if it's shorter platform to platform between Rice Lane and OMG KITTY!
Brilliant video!
Thanks!
I ran Wigan North West to Wall gate in less than a minute to get a connection 😏
More cats! For ticketing purposes, are both St Budeaux stations considered one?
I don't _think_ they are
@@JenOnTheMove 🫨
Reckon Devonport kitty just needed a coffee \m/
6:37 Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Catford and Catford Bridge very close though under 9 secs? Probably not
the two catfords are 30 seconds apart according to geoff
Geoff is the authority so good enough for me@@Farleigh1050
Could you please do Visting every station on the scotrail express line(Glasgow queen st to Edinburgh Waverley)
Wonder a driver ever forgot to set the points reverse in to the direction he came from at Bere Alston 🚨
Can you do a video with just cats in it lol 😂
How easy to send this up to Tavistock ? (and come to that Callington ?)
Lovely video. I don't think the screen at Victoria Road ever works.
wasnt every station as you missed out bere ferres which is inbetween bere alston and st budeaux
And Dockyard, Keyham and Plymouth.
Check the last video
