- Did you know that Super Mario Odyssey came out almost 7 years ago? I know, crazy right? We're definitely due for another 3D Mario game, but where is it? What has Nintendo been hiding? Let's talk about it!

Super Mario Galaxy 2 was actually planned to be dlc but Nintendo kept thinking of new ideas
Would have been interesting to see DLC on a Wii game but thankfully those levels and more received a physical release for the 2nd game and weren't lost forever as DLC for MG1 which would have been lost with the shutdown of the Wii shop
If it takes 8 years for a 3d mario title it is most likely a open world mario game

Right now We are in Mario Mayhem first The Mario kart 8 Booster Course Pass then we had the Movie then Wonder and then the Remakes Mario has never been more exciting then now
I think this is a similar situation to Sonic World Adventure.
The plan was to make Adventure 3 but the development changed the concept so drastically they changed it to Sonic World Adventure then to Unleashed.
Similarly I think Super Mario Odyssey 2 was probably next but the due to the reception of Bowser's Fury they may have decided to change some things to be more along those lines instead.
Maybe we could get both an original open world Mario game as well as a new linear 3D game both being simultaneously worked on. Maybe the latter could be a spiritual sequel to 3D Land and 3D World. Maybe Super Mario 3D Kingdom could be the title.
I can’t wait for a new 3d mario game! It’s been so long since Mario Odyssey, which is one of my favorite games of all time!
Bowser fury was good not only because of the open world, the level design was more suited for Mario then Odyssey and you never leave action during gameplay, they just used 3D World assets and made a entire world, the fact that the game is short makes it better in my opinion.
Bower’s Fury is a great game despite not technically being a mainline game.

@@blunderguy2571 well technically it’s not a full game just an extra mode included with 3D World. Yes it is it’s own game but again it’s technically a combo with another game.

Super Mario 64 was remade on the DS, not 3DS.
Those are some pretty good theories there! My gut tells me there might be a chance they'll announce the next 3D Mario game later this year or next year since usually Nintendo always has big bangers prepared for game awards.
Can't wait for the Switch 2 to come out, so cross-platform games aren't as limited graphically anymore.
Their saving it for the next console. I don't think its going to be Odyssey 2 though since Nintendo likes to make every 3D Mario in a way that not only shows the power of the console but define the era of that console(64: Mario 64, Gamecube: Sunshine, Wii Galaxy and etc.). Its also safe to assume that it'll be a console exclusive, as that's what going to get people to buy the console day 1.
Hear me out: Super Mario 64 remake built from the ground up that has modern day graphics. Like Shadow of the Colossus 2018, RE 2 and 4 remakes, Dead Space 2023, Super Mario RPG 2023, etc. Not based on Super Mario 64 DS, the original game from N64! They could even make new levels and make new cutscenes and make the story more fleshed out. But keep the core template that was the original 1996 game just updated in graphics and the camera movement is free motion moving like Mario Sunshine Mario Odyssey and Bower’s Fury.
I have a feeling 3d mario will return with the new system.....granted based on their trackrecord, if you count 3d world, its a tradition

We could use another 3D Mario but we need more biomes this tme.
We haven't gotten a new 3D Mario since Odyssey because we usually only get one of these once every generation. (Galaxy 2 was an exception)
I'm sure the Tokyo team has been cooking the next big thing for a while, and if Bowser's Fury is anything to go by, we'll likely get something like that… but a lot bigger. But until we get a new console, we're not going to hear ANYTHING about a new 3D Mario or the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe successor.
So I would stop "expecting" Nintendo to deliver news on this until they unveil their Switch successor… because it would be beyond stupid of them to release a new 3D Mario on the current Switch this late into the game and then have nothing ready for the next console. The Switch had its 3D Mario early on, and it's had a consistent helping of Mario in the form of re-releases and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. It's not "starving" for more Mario.

@@Justin-0427there is according to some speculation it’s going to be a full open world game with is what bowser furry teased us for the next 3D Mario game but it was just a test of an new idea for an open world concept in a 3D Mario game would work.

Imagine if it’s something new like Galaxy 3D Land and 3D World were. Something we wouldn’t suspect. Or maybe they have more than one in the works, one with a giant open world and one that’s more linear (however not necessarily like 3D Land and World and not with time limits; IDK)
I think Nintendo definitely has something planned for sure and I expect it to most likely be on the Switch 2.
