Smashing job, it's back to being a usefull lappy again :-D The keyboard in my ancient 2007 acer aspire went dodgy and i tryed to fix it, hmm more deader lol. Amazon came to the rescue, ten quid for a replacement, non original but it made a world of a difference, nice clicky and positive action, no letters lost :-D.. Worth every penny and looks identical to the original. This old lappy is using winxp pro, yep i know its very old, no im not at risk to viruses, ive never had even one. A reasonable virus package and a firewall thats as tight as a duck bum lol.
Well if it helps you feel better, i never managed to repair them eather. It started with the sinclair zx81 and 48k speccy, if the ribbons snapped i would desolder the board socket and put it on long wires to reach the now truncated ribbon. A bodge but it worked. The painted traces and pads in the membrain, no they were staying deadsville lol. Same idea as laptop keyboards, very easy to kill.
I have a HP laptop, and the the water spilled onto the keyboard, and the laptop isn’t turning on. Do you think I need to replace the keyboard and the battery? And what liquid are you using to clean the components?
Thanks for the video. I have the same laptop - it opens when there is battery but doesn't when only using charger. The charging port is just flashing. I tried other chargers but still just flashing. Could it be a motherboard issue? Thanks you
I made a mistake cleaning my keyboard and the screen on my HP laptop, using clorox disinfecting wipes, I wiped down the whole laptop, including the battery, but when i first applied the wipe to the keyboard, there were suds…I should have squeezed the wipe out before wiping the keys :/ i did the same thing with the screen, but the screen was fine after I managed to get it powered back on for the 3rd or 4th time, I was on the web browser and there were no blemishes or anything that shouldn’t be there. but now, the PC no longer powers back on! I tried everything, even letting it dry for some time, still nothing…help?
@@allthegearnoidea6752 I understand. I had to edit because my beer making friend corrected me about corn sugar vs corn syrup. Syrup is in carbonated soda almost exclusively. Logic would rationalize that's the most commonly spilled item.....but yeah, got your meaning.
I don't strip the key boards, I just washed them in the shower blew out with an airline and then left for 24 hours somewhere warm. But now here keyboards are around £16. so I just buy new.
Aparently i just had to take out the batery by unscrewing it and put it back in it didnt power on cause the batery was dead i let it charge and now it works
Great video my friend, really interesting to see this! Way to go on almost 8K too! Keep it up! 🤓👊

zx8401ztv - this was a fairly simple job really.
I haven’t had any success trying to fix membrane keyboards, I just get a new one they are cheap.

Yes replace the keyboard, only replace the battery if it is actually bad or is getting puffy, the liquid is IPA (isopropyl alcohol).
@@TheDefpom Ok, but do you think that I need to replace the components inside the keyboard?

I don’t know what that will be, I haven’t seen that before.

My starting point would be to determine what the liquid was before going any further. Double gloving. Regards Chris
More than likely high fructose corn syrup, avoiding the idea of other nasty organic water base liquids.
@@danishnative9555 I have to wear gloves going anywhere near my own laptop- you dont want to know!
