BTW I just ordered an EV 635 N/D-B for my voice. I try out many mics. I wanna try one with no proximity effect so I don't overload the bass. Hence Omni...

    Hey Matt, I don’t know if you still visit this video but I think there is one mic you forgot. I think he used it May 27th 1976 while wearing the V neck jumpsuit. It’s a long, slim microphone with a small windscreen taped on it. You can find pictures of it if you look up that date. Is that basically like the thin, straight mic he used during TTWII rehearsals?

    Great job, but the Shure Super 55 was introduced in 2009. In his early years, Elvis used one or some of the many variations of the Shure 55 Unidyne (UNI = unidirectional, DYNE = dynamic) series. These mics were later commonly known as the Fat Elvis mic, since they were bigger models in comparison with the ones used today. In the 40’s, Shure engineer Benjamin Bauer created the 55 models with three impedance variations (55A/55B/55C), with a design inspired by the front grille of the 1939 Cadillac. Later, Shure made a version that substituted them, with a high/medium/low switch on the back, simply called 55. It would also vary in silk color (black, red, or blue). There are at least two known photos that show Elvis on stage with one of these mics. In 1951, Shure started making the 55S, the smaller version of the original Unidyne mics, which Elvis used in diferent occasions.

      @@patrickcrombmusicI have collected vintage Elvis mics for years and have many of the models here used by Elvis from 69 to 77. By E.V I have an RE10, 2xRE15's, RE16, RE17, CS15E, and by Shure I have the black and silver 545 unidyne 3, SM53, SM54, SM57 and SM58.
      All are great sounding mics, the CS15E is an electret condenser so needs phantom power, the others are all dynamic mics. Out of the all my preference is the RE15, such a nice crisp, bright sound, so I can see why it was Elvis's fave also from 69 to 73 both on stage and in the studio. And before you ask, no, none of my mics are for sale sorry😂😂I was lucky I collected these years ago when they werent so hard to find, and werent crazy prices like they are now, if you can find them.

    Great job tracking down this info but a correction to your Shure 55 info. The Super 55's (a super cardiod mic) weren't produced until 2010. The Shure 5575LE was a limited edition mic (thus the "LE" designation) and the 75 refers to it being the 75th Anniversary (2014) of the original 55 which was affectionately nicknamed the "Fatboy." These original versions of the 55 were about the size of a grapefruit and were produced from 1939-1950 at which point they gave way to the 55s (the "S" standing for "small").

    • @James.ceta14

      Actually Elvis Used them in the 1950’s so Elvis did use a super 55

    • @MBurrellstudios
      @MBurrellstudios 4 месяца назад

      @@James.ceta14 Sorry but you're speaking to a Shure Mic Nerd. Shure did produce a Suipercardioid as early as the 1940's and '50's, however, they were the broadcast models which had a very heavy shockmount on the neck. The only supercardioid small version of the model 55 was produced in 2009 (I mistakenly stated 2010 above) and those were the ones Shure dubbed the Super55. Just google "The Unidyne Story" and you'll find an etire PDF of the history of the Shure 55.

    • @philipd3931

      That picture isn't from MSG, he's wrong about that one. It's the correct suit but that's a picture from August 1972 in Vegas I think. The microphone and rings are not the same. Look up pictures from the afternoon and evening show (as well as the june 9th show) you will see the mic is different. Also he said it sounded good on the album but that show (june 9th) isn't even one of the two albums anyways. From his explanation, the MSG mic is probably the one he said the windscreen used to be held on with a rubberband because if you look at the pictutes it definetly looks like that.
