I had ALWAYS wanted a Gizmo Furby! It was the perfect crossover. They also had Yoda and "Furbacca" Furbys. I wish they had been able to license more characters, they were so adorable!
As strange as it sounds today, toys in the 90s became popular in the least likely way you would've ever expected. See, back in the 90s, Rosie O'Donnell wasn't nearly as despised as she is today. In fact she was actually well liked in 90s. Not the repugnant figure we know today. She was so well liked, that she actually had a daytime talkshow. And it was the most popular talkshow on television. And Rosie pretty much dictated what toys were gonna become popular. Similar to Oprah with books she mentions becoming bestsellers. Rosie is best known for starting the Tickle Me Elmo craze. She featured it on her show, and it suddenly became the hottest toy in the world. Moms were literally fighting in Toys R Us over a Tickle Me Elmo, and getting arrested for it. And it was selling on this new-fangled website called ebay for hundreds of dollars (thousands in today inflated market). And Rosie is responsible for Elmo becoming a popular character in pop culture as a whole. And Elmo even got his own theatrical movie because of it called Elmo in Grouchland. I say all of this to say, Rosie also happened to show Furby on her show, and Furby became popular overnight. Furby never quite became Elmo. But Furby was the hottest toy of the season.
@@ItsTheGooseItsTheGoose it's just crazy how tines have changed. Even Rosie O'Donnell. At one time, super popular, with the most popular talkshow. She's since tried attempts at rebooting her talkshow several times, and they've all flopped. She even tried to be on the view, twice, and both times flopped. Even her successor, Ellen, who had a talkshow that was even more popular than Rosie's ever was, is widely hated now.

Paw Patrol was also created by a toy company, Spin Master, known for the Air Hogs outdoor flying planes. And with paw Patrol, they immediately got a TV show on the air, tons of merch, and even movies. Thats why paw Patrol has been super successful, and has enjoyed a lasting success, and longevity for over a decade, and still going strong. Its the #1 pre-school program, and its very popular. They're definitely deemed like some missed potential. Lore didn't seem as important as selling the product rather than selling the story. I don't remember a single ad or commercial that featured who Furby was, just that they were cute, danced, and burped. Even now with the modern versions, it's all about what they can do with nothing about what they are. Backstory costs nothing, but means everything to fans!
@@ItsTheGooseItsTheGoose well the big selling point was how technologically advanced they were for the 90s. But in 2024, they aren't advanced anymore. I had so much Furby stuff growing up: 3 of them, coloring books, backpacks, clothes I just loved them. The PC game was the best! My favorite og Furby is rainbow with purple ears and feet.
