Is there no end to the Gelli's potential!!!? Brilliant. I was thinking about using my Charbonnel ink on my Gelli plates only two days ago, but was concerned about getting the stuff off. I'm glad this popped up.
Thank you so much for this nice comment! Yes the Charbonnel works great, but I find the Akua just a little bit more interesting, and easier to get off..🙏🏼🙋🏻♀️🎨

Love the video and effects. What is the benefit of the etching ink over normal acrylic paint? Is it the transparency of the ink? Would live to try this out, but i have a lot of acrylic to use up 😊
well you can compare the paints as I do all the time, if you purchase maybe one tube of etching ink first. The etching ink gives a much finer print as it is so highly pigmented. Among the Acrylics, I find that the Golden Open slow-drying paint does the best job - it takes long to dry, so you don't have the acrylics dry on you so fast, and it is also very high pigmented. @@tinasart5720 Looking forward to it. You make it look so easy, but I know from experience that gelli art can be a trial to come up with something that actually looks artsy. I overthink everything and get frustrated when I end up with pages and pages of "meh"... lol
Yes! I’d like to learn more about your process. How did you choose between etching ink and intaglio? I take it they are both water-soluable? I never heard of Charbonnel brand ink . . .
Thank you for your comment, I have published part 2 of this video already: ruclips.net/video/5o8S2DZ2GHo/видео.html. The overall "family" is etching ink, and they come as intaglio ink or relief ink. For the Gelli Plate, you can use both. All of them are oil based, except for Akua intaglio, which is soy based and therefor easier to clean off tools and hands. 🙏🏼🙋🏻♀️🎨

Hi Tina… I have a quick question… on the first pull with Saran Wrap, how long did you wait before pulling the wrap off? Loving the process. Your works are beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
thank you so much! You don’t have to wait at all, as the etching ink won’t dry on the Gelli plate anyway. Just press down some wrinkles, depending on how strong you want the effect. 🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️💝
Thank you for your quick reply, Tina! Got my supplies today... looking forward to getting lost in the journey! Again... thank you from Texas! @@tinasart5720
I admit, I've wondered about this combination! Thanks for posting. (I assume the Chsrbonnel is "Aqua Wash" ink? I've heard that oil-based inks are a bad idea on gelli.)
Actually I don't use the Aqua Wash at all. I use the oil based, and it is no problem with the gel plate, you can get everything off with other oils. I use vegetable oils for that. And I have different brayers. Recently though I am back with acrylics, as the Golden Open are also very slow-drying and give good effects. The secret to both is: only use a thin layer. 🙋🏻♀️🙏🏼🎨
I love the effects. How do you clean the ink off your Gelli plate afterwards? I make my own gel plates, which seem to last forever, but don’t know if I’d use this type of ink on them, unless I could remove it properly.
thank you!… Any kind of vegetable oil will do, with some tissue - but if you use the Akua paint, you can get it off with soap or dish detergent water, as it is soy based and therefor water soluble. 🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️🎨🌸
Hello Tina. I love your tutorials. Could I ask if it is easy to clean etching ink from the gel plate when you are finished a project? I have never used etching ink before....
hey Jaqui, thank you so much 🙏🏽! Etching ink is always a little messy, but it comes off the Gelli Plate and other tools best with a little linseed oil, I think any oil will do. Afterwards I clean the oil off with a baby wipe, so that I don’t have it on the Gel Plate, which would make a resist. Akua etching ink is soy based, and comes off much more easily. Also, I like the Akua effect the best. Hope that helps…🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️🎨
Yes you can, I just think that the etching ink gives me more interesting structures to inspire me. And more time, as it dries slowly. The Golden Open are great acrylics for this, as they also dry very slowly (depending on the weather). 🙏🏼🙋🏻♀️🎨
The Akua intaglio ink is soy based and can be picked up with wet paper which makes a more intensive print. The Cranfield inks are oil based, as well as the Charbonnel inks, both for intaglio and relief. The oil based inks are harder to get off tools and hands, the Akua you can wash off with soap or baby wipes….in my next video I am trying to combine them, with less success…yes the daisies - I apologized to the bees as well 🙂🐝
@@FR-wc2dn it is absolutely not running at all. Doesn’t damage the Gel plate, but is a bit of a hassle to get it off, with oil and baby wipes. After a day of drying it is dry enough to draw on it, but I usually use a glove when I’m doing that, as not to smear any residues. Sorry for the late answer…🙏🏽🙋🏻♀🎨
Well yes it does actually, as the etching ink is so sticky and messy. You have a tiny spot somewhere and it ends up all over the place. It was smeared on my dog once! 🐶 😂
@@AnetteY11 that is actually a great idea! Made a print once, just painting on the cling film directly. My hero Gerda Lipski @gerdalipski made a Video about it!
Hello Marja, the Akua intaglio ink is soy-based, which is like water-based and easier to clean, the Charbonnel ink is oil-based…Greets from Berlin! 🙏🏽🎨🙋🏻♀️
I just saw that the paper was Bristol paper, not printing paper. I guess that makes sense if you aren’t soaking the paper and also are applying acrylics??
Thank you for your comment! Actually the printing paper or watercolor paper is better to paint on afterwards, but the Bristol is working good as well, and a lot cheaper, that's why I wanted to try it. For drawing on, the Bristol is great. 🙋🏻♀️🙏🏼

Oh! Thanks 👍
I would like to see a video about adding color.
I have published Part 2 already:

Thanks so much!@@tinasart5720
Jana: how long do you have to wait before pulling up the print? As an old printmaker this possibility speaks to me.
...you mean with the etching ink? You dont have to wait at all, as it prints immediately into the paper...thank you! 🙋🏻♀️🎨
Se puede hacer todo con pintura acrílica?
Yes you can, I just think that the etching ink gives me more interesting structures to inspire me. And more time, as it dries slowly. The Golden Open are great acrylics for this, as they also dry very slowly (depending on the weather). 🙏🏼🙋🏻♀️🎨
I would love to see how you develop these prints with pencils.
thank you Doris, I have already published the 2nd part: ruclips.net/video/5o8S2DZ2GHo/видео.html 🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️🎨🌸
Are the etching inks water based? Btw I totally get your apology to the daisies at 5:28 😢
The Akua intaglio ink is soy based and can be picked up with wet paper which makes a more intensive print. The Cranfield inks are oil based, as well as the Charbonnel inks, both for intaglio and relief. The oil based inks are harder to get off tools and hands, the Akua you can wash off with soap or baby wipes….in my next video I am trying to combine them, with less success…yes the daisies - I apologized to the bees as well 🙂🐝
@@tinasart5720 Will the Akua intaglio ink damage the gel plate? And does it take a long time to dry? Is it runnier than acrylic paint?
@@FR-wc2dn it is absolutely not running at all. Doesn’t damage the Gel plate, but is a bit of a hassle to get it off, with oil and baby wipes. After a day of drying it is dry enough to draw on it, but I usually use a glove when I’m doing that, as not to smear any residues. Sorry for the late answer…🙏🏽🙋🏻♀🎨
What do you do with the cling wrap when you're done? Can you reuse it somehow or does it end up in the landfill?
Well yes it does actually, as the etching ink is so sticky and messy. You have a tiny spot somewhere and it ends up all over the place. It was smeared on my dog once! 🐶 😂
I wonder if the clingfilm could be used to make a second impression.
@@AnetteY11 that is actually a great idea! Made a print once, just painting on the cling film directly. My hero Gerda Lipski @gerdalipski made a Video about it!
Great fun! I'd love to see what you do next with these beauties ❤
BTW I'm a Gerda fan also! Greetings from the west coast of Canada

Hello! Is this etching ink water-based or oil-based?
Hello Marja, the Akua intaglio ink is soy-based, which is like water-based and easier to clean, the Charbonnel ink is oil-based…Greets from Berlin! 🙏🏽🎨🙋🏻♀️

Yes yes yes please
thank you Ann🙏🏽! here is part 2 of this video: ruclips.net/video/5o8S2DZ2GHo/видео.html

I enjoyed the demo, but would MUCH rather hear you talk about it than listen to music. What is it with all the music on videos?!
…thanks for telling me that. I made a video without any music: ruclips.net/video/9tP0WB0fJ0c/видео.html and it was one of the least successful so far. I personally work without music most times. I think I will give it another try and make another one without music. Anybody who wants to make a comment for or against that? Appreciate that you take the time to comment…🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️🎨
