    This is a fantastic video. I've failed several social work interviews, still looking for my first registered social work job following graduation several years ago. These tips should hopefully help in future interviews - anxiety is a huge problem for me though, so it sometimes feels impossible!

      Hi thank you. I just want to tell you that I had a panic attack in the middle of my first ever university interview but managed to pull it together. Anxiety has been something I've struggled with but I have found ways to get through it. One thing that's helped me is joining a group for people who want to get through fears of public speaking. They are called the Association of Speakers. Doing well in interviews is the same skill as public speaking I have found so it might be worth looking into something like that. Thanks for your comment, it means a lot and glad the video helped. 🙂

    Social work degree is very different level of thinking to the workplace where you have to do as you're instructed, regardless of the consequences.

    Thank you for this video, your experiences literally mirrored mine. The power imbalance, the wanting to get all the info out in one fail swoop was what i did too. I am much better at writing my answers than saying them but i can also advocate, like you said. You also seem a very confident speaker which i am too. So it must be interviews that are the problem. How many people are turned away because they arent good at being grilled? Im determined my next interview will be the one but i feel a lot better going into the next one knowing im not alone at not getting the first one and this shouldnt put anyone off applying again. Thank you

      Thank you so much for sharing your views on this. I think for all the reasons mentioned this is why people at all stages in their career sometimes end up applying for jobs as interview practice even if not to take the role as it's widely recognised that it's a particular skill that is developed over time. You are definately not alone !!! Good luck with your journey ❤️

      Hey honestly I was so bad at coming across right. I get how frustrating it is. Don't stop just keep going for them as hard as it is. I also did other things to improve confidence like public speaking groups. But you could consider ways to manage the anxiety. You are not alone with this x

      I graduate in May but I’d like the option of not doing the ASYE.
      Do you think I can still get a job without it 🤔as it isn’t Compulsory it’s just encouraged

    Does anyone have advice for someone who has failed their social work interviews at their local councils? What should they do in the meantime before they apply again?

    • @KayleighRoseEvans
      @KayleighRoseEvans  3 года назад +1

      Hi sometimes it seems like you have to do quite a few interviews to get in so don't see it as a failure. This may be if they have internal applicants applying or are looking for something specific in the person they are taking on. I know some people have told me that they had to apply for a support worker or case assessor post to get in and then apply for a social work position internally. Have you asked for feedback after the interviews as this may help. I always write questions down straight after the interviews so I can be more prepared for the next. Thanks Kayleigh 😊

      @@KayleighRoseEvans Heya Kayleigh, thank you for taking the time in answering my question. Yes they have asked for feedback and they have been told they did not have enough experience despite passing their placements and having prior experience in court. They cannot apply to another council again and are wondering what other jobs should they target in the meantime besides a support worker? And do you mean Care Assessor or Case Assessor? Thank you, Jafrul.

    • @KayleighRoseEvans
      @KayleighRoseEvans  3 года назад

      No problem. I think that's so difficult, considering how difficult the training is, it seems unfair that people then find themselves in this position. I have head this happens quite a lot in different places. In the council I work for there are specific ASYE positions which newly qualified workers can apply for.
      In terms of feedback being given about not having enough experience - I went on an open day before getting my first job hosted by BASW and there were on the spot interviews and guidance given. Maybe look on their website to see if any help can be given.
      Something that was said to me was around sometimes newer qualified professionals have trouble linking their experience to the questions. I think this is something that you can craft once you get to know the types of questions asked after multiple interviews. That's why I posted the interview tips on RUclips because I hoped that it would give insight into the sorts of things asked.
      Just to clarify from the last message I meant case assessor which is someone who does a lot of what a social worker does but doesn't have the qualification. It shouldn't need to be done really but I know some people apply for these positions just to get their foot in the door so they can then apply for internal positions as a social worker when these come up. Thanks Kayleigh

      Take it as sign from God to keep away from the organisations that didn't recruit you. You might be too intelligent or a free thinker, which the managers don't like. They want obedience to managers

    From what I've seen of social workers here in the states, you're far too beautiful to be one anyways. Go be a model and make a really good living.
