Quadrophenia is a must-watch for anyone feeling suicidal. In this movie, the guy was fined an extortionate amount by the courts, was abandoned by his friends, was rejected by a girl who he thought was his girlfriend, was disowned by his family, became homeless, became jobless, and became hopelessly addicted to drugs... yet he refused to end his life. At the last minute he changed his mind and decided to trudge back to life and start all over, even though he had lost everything and practically had no reason left to live anymore. Great moral: the secret of life is to keep going even when it feels like there’s no point continuing anymore.
When I saw the film when I was 15 it never occurred to me that Jimmy didn't go over the cliff with the scooter (I just thought it wasn't shown). However, now I think he could have got off the drugs, made up with his parents, got a new job, found a new and better girlfriend and mates, and gone on to have a long and happy life. Maybe he even moved to Australia.
@@maddyg3208 at the very beginning of the film, it shows him standing over the cliffs where he drove the scooter off, before walking back to the road. That's how you know for sure he didn't go through with it.
@@cybernautadventurer Well I'd never even thought about that Andy, the clip of him walking away at the start were actually the end,...at no other point in that film did they zip back to the past unlike with other such films so that didn't occur to me with this story to be honest. Now like with Trainspotting 2, couldn't they make another film showing how all the cast members lives did turn out all these years later.
This movie changed my life for 4 or 5 yrs ,went & got a whole new wardrobe, started listenin to 60's soul & northern soul then got a scooter & for 4/5 yrs went every year to the scooter runs & had the best 4/5 yrs of my life ,i was in my late teens early 20's ,without a care in the world or any responsibilities , being a little naughty at times , always havin a skin full & chattin up anything in a short skirt or ski pants & the beauty of it all i got to live this movie for real ,comin out of gigs & all nighters & sleepin on the beach or if ya got lucky if you know what i meen & she had a B & B 😉............. such happy times then you have to grow up ,be responsible & do what society wants you to do ......... an adult lol 😎😎😂😂
I saw this movie just because I learned that Ren likes it and then I saw Sting is in it and given how much I like the police it has become one of my favorites
Jimmy ended up in Borstal. He got bitter, spiteful like. One of the other lads there, Pongo, got kicked out the army and sent to Borstal took him under his wing. Jimmy got known as Striper, for cutting the other boys up with knives. But that's another story...

Well, Trainspotting is a film based on a novel by Irvin Welsh based on his personal experiences as a drug addict, so I don't think it is a direct copy; maybe director Danny Boyle made some visual references to Quadrophenia, but not plagarism. Also, I love both films.
Striking comparisons can be made with Saturady Night Fever (1977). The main character in this film is a teenager who wants to be "one of the lads" like Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever but eventaully becomes disillusioned with his way of life. The last scene in this film heavily implies he is through with this sort of lifestyle and will be looking to take his life in another direction which is just like Tony Manero is SNF.
I saw this movie as a teenager, I wanted to like it, I really did. But as an American who is used to slightly more professional movie productions, even bad college productions, this movie never quite got off the ground for me. It seemed like a bunch of illiterate hooligans frantically running around with mouths full of fish and chips telling each other to 'fuck off", some close enough to the mics to be heard, others not so much. Was this a first film for the production crew and "actors"? Was it ever intended to be released to a broader public? Don't get angry england, we do love the shoddy DIY amateurism that permeates throughout your entire culture, much like we love the unsettling self-portraits our five year olds bring home from school, technically both are often disasters, but it's the spirit that counts, right?
@@force7773 No, I am not a big fan of shoot-em up movies with explosions, but had this movie added some of that, it wouldn't have made it any more incoherent. If they would have had a scene where one of the hooligans was screaming "fuck off" at the steering wheel of his car, shards of baked beans and toast flying from between the few remaining teeth in his mouth, barely audible due to he amateurish poorly placed mics, that at least might have been one of the more memorable scenes from this mess of a movie, right?

Thank you Miss Lee 😂
I knew that Sting was a mood; but Ray Winstone, was a rocker?! Wooow!!
Him and Jimmy went to Borstal soon after...
Very nice, much better than the official trailers. Thanks!
His father is calling him a bloody freak and he has a suit on!! His head would spin to see nowadays fashion.

I liked this movie. Saw it on German television more than thirty years ago.
My all time favourite film

F’ckin’ gReaT film 👍🏼
(Shame about the drop outs on the video uploaded.)
No 'Trainspotting' nor 'Billy Elliot' without this film - both are remakes of this - and no Quadrophenia with 'Kes'.

At first I was like "Why is there a W.A.S.P. song in this trailer from the 1970's"...then I remembered it was The Who that did that song originally...
Should have have "F (bang) k like a beast" or "I wanna be somebody".
I watched this last summer with my mother.
Iconic Movie ........Take it or leave it my son ......take it ...or ....leave it !!
LOL what an iconic bit in the movie & i say it every time i watch it lol 👍👍
“You’re schizophrenic” his dad says, as of this is a moral failing or something that Jimmy realistically has the power to change

I saw this movie in 1980 on Showtime.
That’s when cable tv used to show edgy obscure films 🎥. I saw Tommy a few years later late night
