      XymXir Yes, he is putting in the work, and we appreciate that. So in his work we can then criticize his decision to take a soft tone speaking lecture and then immediately blast some crap music the second it ends. What a dope. And I am a paying customer at this point since he monetized his work of adding crap music at the end.

    Problem with very high iq individuals is that after the environment finds out about your intellect, (which usually happens when we are kids) EVERYONE will create and have these extremely high 'expectations' of you. If you pass your tests with a 10/10: oh well its to be expected by a gifted person but when you fail a test, you are lazy/unwilling etc. A zero sum game.
    This puts most in an enormous amount of stress during EVERY INTELLECTUAL TASK which results in extreme perfectionism. Now imagine growing up and NEVER meeting (your own) expectations; Always failing. =====> Another WASTED talent.

      If you want to peel the onion back a little... A high IQ person is usually treated with resentment with those they come in contact with because high IQ's can look through someone's B.S., a groups b.s., a systems b.s., our very existence as b.s. We look for someone with answers that will comfort, high IQ's don't have comforting answers, they have truth and the truth is a heavy burden. Furthermore, in modern times many high IQ's have sold in their morality and concluded there's a higher reward in being deceptive to get what you want. Some like Mr. Peterson still use their higher field of play for the good of the group, but this side of the group is dwindling. At the end of the day high IQ's just want some kind of peaceful payoff for a mind that just won't stop collecting input. Eventually they burn out and their biggest fear is felt, it was never enough, all of the heavy burning of the midnight oil was never enough.

      Jay Hemingway Yes yes yes! Everywhere I go I see BS, and I _can't help it._ I don't go into a system/group/conversation with a cynical attitude but people still become angry with me. I used to be outgoing, but have learned to be flat and neutral. Let's face it: Even if there is a great system in place somewhere, someone will always inset some nonsense into it. I have suffered this all my life, especially with employers who organize teams based on anything other than talent, or who demand more teamwork than personal initiative from their subordinates. It comes from not recognizing hard facts about reality. For instance, only 20% of your employees are doing 50% of the work. Those employees should be isolated and protected from the others, in order to maximize their productivity. That's a fact. But it's a very ugly fact, _especially_ when you consider that NEARLY ALL your black employees will fall into the 80%.
      Here's another cold fact: We have to have a nuclear war with North Korea. There is no alternative, and a nuclear holocaust in NK is far more merciful than allowing that regime to continue existing. Almost everyone wants to shut their eyes to how much of a living hell NK is, and basically everyone is calling for peaceful reunification-a magical unicorn. The optimists have been in charge for a very long time, but if they were going to save the world I think they would have done it by now.

The fact that having high intellect is just a facet of one's abilities which are equally the same as having strong physique, musically inclined, highly agreeable, etc, etc... and like any abilities, if used negatively will yield negative effects, vice versa. 0:35 i agree. TBH our dreams are like we get to watch tv from an alternate reality and since we are the only ones who saw it, we dont have to tell others we took it from that. I suck at thinking of new ideas, but have found taking ideas from dreams to work well.

    Stop protesting. Rescue feral kittens. Volunteer at animal shelters. Foster homeless pets and seek homes. Spend your own discretionary money and your free time on it. Or choose something like that. Too many people have the self absorbed hobby of politics and social cause protesting and "advocating" and sounding off. It's useless and utterly self serving. Do something. Not something that is a fun ego hobby.

    "You" individually are more complicated than we think. The conscious self is but one part of a greater whole that is the individual and our job within the individual is to navigate and interact with the outside world. Who gives us our dreams? "We" do, but it's not the conscious self, it's another aspect of us just as there are others that give "us" our motivations, interests and dislikes, but they are not separate individuals, just separate parts of the greater whole. This is all my, but it would explain where other personalities come from in people with multiple personalities - the conscious self is failing badly enough for another aspect of an individual to arise out of the unconscious and take the reins of the body to do what the conscious self is unwilling or unable to do, but the event prevents them from returning back into the "primordial sea" of unconsciousness.
    TLDR: There is more to you than "you", the one looking out of your eyes as you read this, but that doesn't mean you're a "ghost in the shell", just part of greater whole that includes not just ones mind but ones entire body that stands in contrast with the Gnostic outlook of many moderns that don't see the forest from the tree of the conscious.

    Regarding dreams, I am always amazed by how much nuance and sophistication there is in them. So much mature awareness and astute observation can be revealed in a dream. The complexities of relating to certain people, how they relate to each other, the sensitivity or delicacy of interactions that have wider implications on they way they hit other people, what each of these characters represent in term of the varying perspectives of a decision you have made, or the company you keep.

    These bitter Intellectuals are fond of bragging about themselves. I've noticed that when others are confronted by that, they tend to admit to the intellectuals success and insights very begrudgingly. Those times they are wrong everyone comes running to condemn loudly. The intellectual becomes increasingly bitter. This downward cycle to hell is thus self created.

  • @badgerrrlattin35

    That picture to me communicates the idea that sacred sacrifice flows naturally from the will of God. It happens almost of it's own accord. When man's guilt/greed/ego inspires him to make his own sacrifice it fails miserably; it goes against the divine flow. Condemned to fail.

    And to totally dispel the notion that most cognitively different (Gifted included) people have trouble with meaningful relationships and wisdom I usually mention that wisdom is experiential. I think highly intelligent people have a greater capacity for wisdom due to high openness and a thirst for knowledge. I’ve thrown myself into positions where I had to learn. And humility is paramount. Hubris and misanthropy are prevalent in high IQ communities in which some members are dejected and overcompensating for lack of social skills. However, I don’t think that this speaks to the majority of cognitively different people.

    I don’t particularly agree with his usage of the word “useless”. Does he mean their ability to function? High IQ individuals (Exceptionally-Profoundly Gifted) are abnormalities in the sense that they are statistically rare. So because of this education, health care, relationships, and professions are poorly equipped to handle individuals with distinct mental wiring like this. Most high IQ people aren’t intellectuals, they merely possess a remarkable processing speed. So this could present itself in a Harvard Professor of English Literature or a twenty year old video game nerd in his moms basement. The difference is early intervention. If the professor was given chances to utilize their intellect and socialize amongst likeminded people they would have an advantage. And if the video game nerd was not given those chances at an early age they will grow up detached, unstimulated, and isolated. High Intelligence can be an impediment, most people see the advantageous nature of it and totally overlook how a more hyperactive mind/body could pose hardship in ones life.

    Why was Cain’s sacrifice rejected, he missed the fundamental symbolism. It represents Christ’s future sacrifice for our sins - the shedding of his blood and his death to atone for our sins. Christ is called the lamb of God for this reason. Sacrificing fruit and veggies misses the point. Cain was too proud and insisted that God should just accept the sacrifice of what he has rather than forcing him to acquire a lamb to sacrifice from his hated brother. He refused to do what God commanded and eventually killed his brother out of spite and thinking he could get ahead.

    • @caomunistadoggo4129
      @caomunistadoggo4129 5 лет назад

      or maybe it's just because he didn't took the better of the "vegetables", only some, and the brother took what was the most valuable of what he had.
      If the story was inverse, and Caim taked the better and most valuable of what he had produced, and Abel just "some" sheep, not the most valuable that he had, maybe Abel would have his sacrifice rejected.
      God doesn't expect the people to read His mind [and He doesn't spoke to the two brothers what would praise Him as a sacrifice before, it would be kinda injust to demand that], but God expect people to do the better they can do, and *that* was emphasized in the text, not *what* was offered but *how* it was made.
      [sorry about my poor english, it's not my native language]

      As I understand it Cain and Abel were commanded to sacrifice a lamb without blemish. Cain failed to follow the commandment. What I was addressing is why God wanted them to sacrifice a lamb. Whether Cain understood the reason or not God had a reason for what he commanded. Cains issue was not obeying the commandment. Cains pride is what got him into trouble.

    • @wildlyoptimistic1352
      @wildlyoptimistic1352 3 года назад

      If sacrificing the lamb was not done before the first Passover what was Abraham up to when he was practicing blood sacrifice. What was the significance of God commanding Abraham to sacrifice Isaac in place of a lamb. This was all before Jacob/Israel was even born.
      Sacrificing a lamb in similitude of the eventual sacrifice of the Lamb of God had to have known before. The Bible may not say it but even Adam knew that God had prepared a sacrifice, namely his only begotten son, to atone for not only Adams transgression but for each of ours as well.
      I get the idea that people think that Adam and Eve buggered up all of Gods plans and God then had to figure out a plan B. God knew what was going to happen and had prepared for it from the start.

    • @wildlyoptimistic1352
      @wildlyoptimistic1352 3 года назад

      @kacangbumbu987
      I’m well aware of the whole story. Before Abraham could go through with what was commanded an angel appeared and stopped him. God accepted that he was willing to do as commanded. You’re right it was a test but it was also symbolic. As for any further discussion on this I’m done. I’ve clearly triggered you into an abusive rant which will serve no purpose. So cheers and try to recover and have a nice day.

      @nyahhbinghi 6 лет назад +2

      eh, I think talent is rarer than you think...exceptional abilities in particular areas are rare. Hard work matters too. But if you want to be exceptional at something, hard work is not enough. Not everyone can be a genius painter, chess player, musician, physicist or anything at all. If you wanted to be genius bricklayer, you'd need 100 arms and a steam-powered heart. Think about it. Exceptional abilities requires exceptional talent. Period. By definition.

    • @slappyhappy6192
      @slappyhappy6192 6 лет назад +2

      Alexander Mills
      Yeah that's not what I mean. Talent doesn't equal genius. Genius is by definition rare. Talented men change the world everyday. But I've met 100x more smart and talented men taken by drugs, alcohol, or any other personal pitfall in life than I have actually met untalented or incompetent people.
      Jordan isn't speaking of intellectuals here as Genius. Just a person that prefers thinking and discussing ideas instead of events or gossip or anything else.
      And your response is normally a response given by someone who thinks they are genius, special, talented or whatever. Little do you know that most humans have the capability, if groomed properly, to make life saving, important decisions everyday.
      If you don't....you either live around a bunch of snowflakes, live in Hawaii, or are such an arrogant and self-centered SOB to actually believe that you're talent is special.

I think humans should develeop their own meaning to life that fits good morals where the gods come from ancient places and some of the morals they had were pretty bad. I agree the miserable intellectual is stupid as they are using thee fact that life doesnt contain a meaning in itself to justify being being lazy or causing harm in a way they know will damage humans or animals that if they were inteelligent they would know why does life need meaning as living things even if meaningless still exeriounce pain and all these other emotions that we should base partly base a lot of our morals around and have mostly.

    I was insanely efficient in math and sciences but never did my homework so in 8th grade I didnt get a good enough grade in math to stay in my honors class (Ace the test but F the assignments so averaged a C) and from then on I stopped caring about school because it was way too easy and unappealing and now at 21 I'm useless.

    How can we know things that we don't know? I like the Alien theory that we were created and knowledge was locked out of our minds, but, sometimes, we can retrieve it. A few rare people are hotwired to do great maths (Rain Man) - evidence of an Alien connection? How could it possibly be evolution? It is too rapid an advancement.

    its magic! oh wait, its not. it science and reason. choice is a result. you always have a choice to better yourself and get out of misery, but, it takes sacrifice and patience of time. living in nyc is complete misery. but if you get an education, get a degree, get a good job, work smarter not harder, then you can obtain enough wealth from your job and create side hustles to get out of nyc hell. you have to be focused. there will be roadblocks, but, the route is reasonable and attainable for the most part.

    The idea that we should be constantly thankful that things are not worse is ludicrous. If things are constantly getting worse and you show thankfulness, you are a masochist of the highest degree. Notably, Mr. Peterson does not specify a life of misfortune here, but this serves the same effect to detract from this statement as if he had. Things can always be worse. You should not thank the hooded torturer for sparing you the hot iron rod and granting you the amputated pinky toe, because tomorrow you'll be thanking him for granting you the hot iron rod and sparing you the genital acid-bath.
    The man on the right, who works harder to earn an equal reward, has nothing and no-one to be thankful toward but himself. He has sacrificed far beyond his counterpart on the left, who truly has sacrificed little more than laying the pieces out for someone else to do the work. No argument can even be given against the man who doesn't work well with those who detract from his experience on Earth. He is justified in his indignation against those who have shown him nothing but hardship. The blame of the misery here is placed on the miserable, a simple solution that applies on occasion but is ultimately inadequate.
    What can you afford to sacrifice when your breath is at it's limit lighting the sacrificial fire that is symbolic of your contribution to the world around you? What can you let go of when your resources are stretched beyond their limits and assistance is rarely offered, and most often in a form ignorant to your needs? How can you accept help, when it commonly impedes your progress while rarely being offered at all?
    The solution is only spoken of here in metaphor. The proposed problem assumes that all the variables of an individual's life obey the principles set forth by this narrow universe. The community surrounding an individual does not, in fact, always have something of significant value to offer said individual, despite numerous, sincere attempts to alter oneself to function in that community.

    If you are secure in yourself, and have a good moral compass you do not need a "god", if you feel weak, it is acceptable to use religion to teach you the way, but be very careful which religion you choose.

    • @matthewvaughan8192
      @matthewvaughan8192 6 лет назад +5

      Yeah, you don't need religion. By the sounds of it you're self-righteous enough to worship yourself.
      Don't do this whole 'religion is for weak/dumb people' shtick, dude. There's nothing original, truthful or useful about it. If you had been paying attention to Jordan you'd know it's a terrible thing to consider yourself as having a 'secure, good moral compass'.

    • @solatiumz
      @solatiumz 6 лет назад +1

      "Dude" - I *know* that I could kill someone if they annoy me enough, however I *choose* to remove myself from that type of person. Some people do terrible things, I have the ability MOST of the time to see (if not understand) why people do what they do. I have not committed any crimes other than speeding (got a ticket, paid and did course) and a few parking fines when I was late/did not realise, so Yes I AM fine and dandy thank you.
      Religion *is* for people who are afraid of the dark and death. When you die, that is it the end.

    • @matthewvaughan8192
      @matthewvaughan8192 6 лет назад +1

      It's rational to be afraid of death and darkness. Some of the cogs aren't cranking properly if you're not.

    • @solatiumz
      @solatiumz 6 лет назад +1

      @Emanuel - great logical fallacy you have there. I never said life had a low value or that I had no guilt, I said that when you die that is the end. Which would imply [to more intelligent readers] that you need to make the most of this life as it is the only one you will be getting.
      Nice try though.

    • @solatiumz
      @solatiumz 6 лет назад +1

      @Matthew - I never said that it was irrational to be afraid of death or the dark, I implied that turning to some invisible floaty dude in the sky that will "give you eternal life" if you follow his bullshit is irrational. Nice logical fallacy though.

    Peterson's (constant) insertion of religion into what seems to be a genuine effort to understand, complicates the issue unnecessarily. His observations and experiences in evaluating human psychology are very interesting, but trying to solve the issues with ancient discredited dogmas cannot be a path to clear understanding. He loses me every single time he starts pumping out the bible verses. xD Maybe he should sacrifice a goat too.
    Looks to me like JP is another case of extreme cognitive dissonance.
    Ditch the dogma JP. It's not helping anyone.

    • @EricSmith9000

      I think the idea is that religion is just an expression of evolved, underlying archetypes that have led to survival. The ritual is the symbol and the specific symbol doesn't matter all that much. What matters is the referent, which is the unconscious experience that is made explicit through the symbols.

    • @Bleilock1
      @Bleilock1 6 лет назад +11

      I think JPs whole point of reinterpretating the bible stories again, is that people who lived in those times when these stories were made, were not as stupid as we believe they were, and that they might know something about us as a species, that we today, dont know, or rather, what we have forgotten along the way of technological progress
      After all Marshall himself said it, medium is the message!

      Ham Sarris I don't see survival as an end game. It's just the reason why we are here. You can take that and do whatever you want with it. E.g. The "tree of life" symbolism might be hard coded into us because it was how our ancestors stayed alive in the savanna. I'm glad they did, but I understand why some might not be glad for it.
