How to find and use the 51 autofocus points on the Nikon D7100 DSLR. Thanks for watching and please subscribe for more! My Photography Page: pages/JPA-Ph...
Whut? How did you manage to take sharp pictures in various situations? Right now i do a lot of macro, manual focus most often but else 1 point and AF-S and AF/AE-L button just like in the old days
Quick tip for people like you that don't use manuals anymore, for fear of having to search endlessly through the whole thing. In the front of them there is something called a Table of Contents, that breaks things down and directs you right to the page(s), that have what your looking for. In the back there is also an Index that just has all the big words in it, in case your not sure which your looking for. Saves a lot of that wasted time and should go a long way towards helping you over that ManualPhobia.
I literally was gifted this bad ass camera and it's my absolute first ever Nikon ownership. I was given lenses with it too and one major is the Tamron 28-75... I spent like 4 hours trying to set my caera up the way My Sony and soon to be sold T3I and Mark IV camera. The Nikon has some funky ways of setting stuff up like my back button and I'm still trying to find out how to turn off the exposure preview in the live view but otherwise man I'd by this over and over again
I have been trying to figure this out for myself for months but never committed to searching properly. A huge thanks for this direct, straight to the point video. Pun accidental :)
if i can like this video a hundred times, i would.. thanks bro.. i've been looking, searching and experimenting for that function for so many months until i watched this video.. thank you!! kudos
Thanks for this. Had been using and moving the focus point no problem. Then it stopped suddenly and was driving me mad. I had locked it and didn’t realise you could. Thanks again
you are the saviour my friend!hv been tryin to figure this out on my d7200 and this was dribing me nuts! thank u so much! quick short video really helps! :)
Thank you very very much Mate.......oh boy i spent almost 1 hour to figure out but this tutorial helps me a lot... You are awesome buddy. Thanks for sharing!
omg. Spent an hour trying to find it. Rented a d7500. Had no problem switching my D750 or D7100 to be able to move the focus points(don't remember it being this hard) but could NOT find anything in the menu for the 7500. Thanks for the quick tip.
Hey!!!!!! just using my DX camera today to shoot the Joffrey Ballet in NYC. Couldnt find the focus selector on the menu. SO.... THANK YOU!!!! I'm a new subscriber. Using the 7100. Going for the D500 as soon as it avail.
Awesome to hear, thanks for the sub! The D500 is going to be an incredible camera, I'm even thinking about putting an order in. They claim it has the performance of the D5!
i use manual focus. but i want to know if there is a way to see a zoomed in version of the place of focus so that i know my subject is fully focused. sometimes i cant tell if it is fully focused or not until its too late when i come and look through the computer to find out most of them are out of focus even though it looked like it was focused while using the small eye pointer. i saw such good features in sony alpha camera so wonder if this is also available on this Nikon D7100 series as well.
THANK YOU! I ruined a bunch of shots and some video today (just got the D7100 yesterday) because I didn't realize it was stuck on AF-S mode (my D50 auto switched) and I thought it was auto-re-focusing when it wasn't. I figured out half way thru my day and had to switch to manual mode because I couldn't figure out how to adjust this!
Nine years later and this video is still helping people, I needed to know this and voila, your video appeared in my search query! Thanks so much and God bless from Louisiana! Are you still using your D7100?
Isn't it a pity Nikon aren't providing these RUclips Video's instead of the public! Or do they? Nikon should send you some money and thank for the upload. I'm all new to this.
Great you shared this peace of puzzling, no Killing information... Really not sure why these companies do so every now and then, and try to confuse us totally out of norm. Well guess this is how the market is going and it's all our / my fault! Thanks for the content and great concern for the peer, when you noticed a problem to self.
No problem, I'm glad that I could help you. How do you like the camera so far? Also, be sure to subscribe to my channel as I am going to be doing more videos on the D7100, and a lot of tips in general that could be helpful in the future. Thanks, Jeff.
I have a nikon d810. When i hold down the "autofocus Selector" button which you are talking about, it does not highlight that setting. And of course with that being said, scrolling the dials as I hold the button does not change the setting either.
Great, but my command button will not switch to auto C.(new camera) Really liked your video. thanks. I see you answered this at another point, thanks. Still trying, but will be back if I cannot figure it out. Your quick video saved my day, I have a funeral video shoot today and I had not figured out the focus for that, this solved the problem.
A good point to mention would have been how the AF-C works in 3D tracking, and that you can move the selected af point around even in that mode. And, with the D-pad, isn't it possible to move around the AF point without pushing the front AF selection switch? It IS on my camera, and I'm looking to get a D7100. And for the lock button at the D-pad; Have you had problems where carrying your camera around would bump the d-pad and move your selected AF area? I never use the lock on my camera when I'm shooting. But then again, I'm mostly changing AF area from shoot to shot. Would love to hear your thoughts Regards Philip B. Hansen
Philip Hansen Thanks for the feedback! It definitely is possible to possible to move the AF point just on the D-pad, I was just highlighting how to change the autofocus mode. I've never had a problem with it moving points just from a bump. I almost never lock the AF area just because of the type of shooting I do. Best, Jeff
just got my nikon d800e, i was using canon and fujifilm system and i got confused about how to change the af mode,, thanks for this video i dont have to look at the manual book which is really annoying for me,, thanks!!
How do I actually put my camera on AF-S mode, I've tried everything...this looks like it should be basic but it's not working for me. Super frustrating
I’m stumped. My AF only works in Live mode. Front switch is set to af. Menu selection is set to af-c but still no af when pressing the shutter. Maybe I pre-assigned it to another button. Not sure.
One thing to know, If you are using a VR lens the stabilization may not work in Continuous mode (AF-C). I had trouble getting mine to work until I switched to Single mode (AF-S).
I am looking for help if anybody knows how to get rid of the clusters on LCD screen, when I took a picture and the red clusters is on the picture, please please please help.
You are my savior bro! i've been 3 years using my father's Nikon D7100 and didn't even know there is AF mode switch, Thank you for the tip!
Whut? How did you manage to take sharp pictures in various situations?

just got my nikon d800e, i was using canon and fujifilm system and i got confused about how to change the af mode,, thanks for this video i dont have to look at the manual book which is really annoying for me,, thanks!!
The d7100 manual is 355 pages...I read it all ...kinda fun actually
Lorsque j'appui mon commuteur AF ,rien ne s'affiche sur l'écran secondaire ou l'écran principale de mon Nikon D7000 ,que faire svp ?
Dynamic with point choose and 3D 51 points Focus tracing is the best with AF C. In all Nikons DSLR. I always use it on my Nikon D4s
How do I actually put my camera on AF-S mode, I've tried everything...this looks like it should be basic but it's not working for me. Super frustrating
well done!
Thanks so much!!
nice
Thank you!😁
I’m stumped. My AF only works in Live mode. Front switch is set to af. Menu selection is set to af-c but still no af when pressing the shutter. Maybe I pre-assigned it to another button. Not sure.
THANK YOU!!
Thank you 🙏
Thank you

THANK THANKS THANKS A LOT!!!
THANK YOU. I hate to admit that I actually did look it up in the manual and still couldn't figure it out.
