At 3:55, you passed Fred Meyer. You could get your laundry soap and all your stockpile stuff there instead of running clear out to Walmart, plus save on gas.
This is great I just subscribed to you the other day, because I saw your van in front of me in seaside and it said that you were a RUclipsr and then you had cameras all up around your car, so I was, like, well that’s cool I’m gonna go ahead and subscribe to them, so im glad that I did ...right on! everything is pretty oregon! Love the bridge shot! Cheers !
Nice video! Glad you got lost I've traveled that bridge countless times. It was great to see Coos Bay & North Bend. My home area-actually the whole coast form N CA-to Florence the rest was joy riding up and down hwy 101 which is like a 2nd home when growing up! Oregon's my home, but haven't been back 28 years. Have fun on your ventures!
Hi Russ, Welcome to Oregon! Off you think that bridge is big wait till you see the Astoria Megler Bridge between OR and WA. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Safe Travel, enjoy the videos!
You should try to get a picture of that bridge at sunset! It's gorgeous! There's always traffic on 101 in the summer! That bridge is a good 70 years old. The engineer designed all of the large bridges on the southern Oregon coast. He did good! Charleston has good eateries.
I have really enjoyed this journey with you, so much that I eagerly wait to see your next video. This has been awesome scenery! I've never been here, and to see it through your eyes has been amazing that places like this actually exist. I fell in love with the scenery in Twilight. Which was filmed in the Washington area.
That's the McCullough bridge. We all call it the north bend bridge. It's at the north bend of the coos bay. Which is what they ended up calling the town after north bend (The town you come into after going over the bridge) then you come to the town of Coos Bay. It use to be called Marshfield in the days before 1940. The high school is still called that. When you say getting lost. I tell people, think about the end of the earth. Then we are 50 miles past that! Lived in the area for 61 years so far. Live on the backside of ten mile lake. Not a bad place to live.
Sorry you got lost. Easy to do. It is confusing with Coos Bay and North Bend being next to each other. In August they have the Blackberry festival. You lucked out on the weather. Nice and sunny.
Another great day for traveling, thanks for sharing Russ, there’s an old saying “Everything grows in Oregon” from wild rose 🌹 bushes to the finest produce in the country. Oregon peaches 🍑 are the best haha safe travels !!
Hi Russ, Bill Tingley here from the UK. I noticed at 4:18 in this video on the right an old Steam Railway Engine and a Sign saying "Oregon Coast Historicsl Railway" ! Old Steam Railways[USA RailRoads] are one of my interests and I wonder if you might have some more info on this Railroad? It looks like it might have been a narrow gauge logging railroad originally. Great video and getting lost was so funny lol
TheAmpfixer The railroad is Coos Bay Rail Link, formerly a Southern Pacific Railroad branch line. The steam engine is Coos Bay Lumber Company Locomotive #104. It's a 1922 Baldwin Steam Locomotive. It operated in Coos Bay and elsewhere on the Oregon Coast until being replaced by diesels. I don't think it is narrow gauge, but I could be wrong. It's restored for display now. I hope that helps. There is quite a bit of information about it with Google.
@@MaxZomboni Thanks for the information. I'm now looking up all about The Line and the Coos Bay Port. When I get over to The USA in 2020/2021 I will make a point of visiting Coos Bay.
@@MaxZomboni Well similar to what Russ is doing I plan to Tour The USA, Canada, and Baja California in a Class B Rv for hopefully about 5-10 years! I want to see as much of the USA as I can while I am still fit enough to enjoy it. Thank you once again for the Info as from your link I have found "Oregon Coast Historical Railway Society" and "The Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad"
I'm so enthused with this trip. I lack Hawaii, California, Washington and Oregon to complete the 50 states. I have dreamed of going to southern Californis and going up the coastline as you are doing. It's almost as good as doing it myself. I love the old roads. Thank you for sharing! I'm anxiously awaiting each day's post.
I live in so cal. was born here 60 years ago. This place is a cesspool now. Illegals everywhere, like Mexico. Homeless everywhere displaced by illegals. Good luck driving with all the loons. I'm getting the hell out of this once great area.
Bullard camping is great unless you arrive at mosquito season. Lived 4 miles outside of Coos Bay for 15 years. Interesting little community..they never would give in to be more of a tourist environment like Bandon. Coos Bay is the largest community on the Oregon coast.
Wonderful footage and narration ! I wanted to learn about a future road trip up that way ..on my way to a relatives. You got me eager to go ! Thanks :):):)
I was doing a case that happened in Ada, Oklahoma, in the 80's and the guy played for the Coo's Bay - North Bend A's (A minor league baseball team) for a while and I used your video. Hopefully you don't mind. I gave you credit in the video and in the description tab.
Hi Russ came to Quartzsite for Father’s Day it’s just not the same with you not here. Will be here for a few more days. Then back to Sacrament we will be back again soo , hope you will be here.
I kept yelling, turn at that big pile of chips! but you didn't hear me. :-) If you're back there again turn on Newmark St. and you'll have a straight shot to Walmart on the left. Then you take a left out of Walmart and another straight shot to Empire Blvd. and take a left. I'll bet the campground is down that road. (I was there this summer. LOL!)
LOL. 6:39 is where you should have turned for Walmart, or at any of the signs for Charleston. I guess the Coos Bay Area is a little confusing. The first couple of years that I lived in this area, I missed more than a few turn offs. Now I know all the landmarks, so it's not a problem. I have never seen them float logs down that river. I guess they could, but they seem to prefer to use log trucks. I don't even notice the wood smell anymore. I guess I'm just used to it.
$3.35 for gas?!? Geez! That's 50% more than here in Texas. Don't run low on gas in Oregon. Since you can't pump your own, many small town stations close in the evenings. I got stranded one night because of that. I worked in Coos Bay at the TV station in the 90's. I miss that place. Thanks for the tour.
Haaa... it happens, It was the moment you said: "I wonder what is in those tanks..." at the 6:40 mark, you should have turned left to go to Walmart... Good Luck on your travels up the coast... Here's some trivia for you, 95% of all trees from where you are up the coast [between the 101 and the Ocean] that are on or near the sand dunes, were planted by MAN, between the years of 1904 to 1928... give or take a few years... why? To stabilize the sand dunes, and to keep sand from flying away... Law of unintended consequences, you can't see the ocean or sand because of the trees! Man changed and altered the landscape for ever, and not to the good... Stop by the Reedsport Forest Service office, and learn how our wonderful government screwed with the coast over the years... I love trees.... But I love me dunes, and nature [a natural site] more...
I haven't had anyone pump gas for me for years. It would be strange now. But, I have a question. Do you have to tip them? It seems we have to tip everyone these days. Just wondering. Thanks for taking us along for the ride, Russ!
Lol you missed your turn to go to Walmart off of hwy 101 so instead you’re on your way to North Bend, which you can easily get to Walmart from North Bend
michael burgueno I believe you can, with permission from the management. It's too bad, there used to be BLM land in Coos Bay for camping. But they shut it down to try to force the homeless out. Which of course failed.
At 3:55, you passed Fred Meyer. You could get your laundry soap and all your stockpile stuff there instead of running clear out to Walmart, plus save on gas.
The reason for that huge wood chips pile because at night a a 100 foot cat comes by and uses it for a liter box, no kidding!
Had a cabin on Ten Mile Lake for 20 years sure does bring back the memories thanks buddy
"Everything is pretty in Oregon"! Just found your video of my pretty stomping grounds, hope you enjoyed your trip.
BROTHER and I watch you all the time we like small town USA's..
Those little laughters sometimes after a scentence... quite funny ! 😁👍😂

This brings me back to our Oregon/Cali hwy 101 trip. Took the same route. Beautiful drive.
Thanks, Russ! The bridge was twice as nice...can't beat that "Getting lost"! Cajun
When we get lost we call it taking the scenic route. You sure did that, the bridge is beautiful, great views. That drive ..... wow. Love the pines. 😊👍
I grew up in Coos Bay but haven't been back for a long time. Thanks for letting me see a little of my home town again.

Even though this video is two years old I still enjoyed it. Every time I go to Coos Bay I get lost two and I live in Oregon
Nice video. I camped in that Mill Casino RV park. It was May 14 2019. Good campground. I remember that bridge. Very tall.
The Mill Casino Hotel and RV Park has a lot of real cool stuff going on (when there’s no COVID) I signed up for their email from their website.

From now to fall beach state parks full as need reservations. No fun when no pull over when tired. Enjoy our coast!
Linda Hoffman If you are just tired and need to stop, there are so many places you can park for free. Personally I wouldn't pay for a campground.
Merry Christmas from Hermiston Oregon.
