My Mom was a trained soprano. She used to sing "O Holy Night" for our ward in Toronto every year. I have also performed it several times both as a solo and with choirs. It is the essence of the true meaning of Christmas to me.

They were originally known as The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, but changed it to The Tabernacle Choir. Their music brings me to tears, and this version of O Holy Night is amazing. When i lived in Utah, i had the opportunity to watch their practice performances, as well as hear The Spoken Word. I'm so glad you enjoyed this video, and the tears are understandable.

They truly shake the building at times - not a small feat in such a grand space that they perform in. When the choir sings What Shall We give? - one of my favorites - the room was quaking with the build and climax of the song. I still turn the volume up all the way- every time it comes up in my Christmas playlist - to attempt to capture the feeling of such conviction they embodied in the performance. I hope you find an opportunity 14:14 to enjoy the Choir’s live performance someday!

I got a chance to finally see the choir about 15 years ago at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. They were like a majestic, perfect sound machine. Carlos Santana likes to tell people that great music actual rearranges the body’s molecular structure, like when you get goosebumps. Well, my experience was like that and more. It actually became a spiritual experience for me. And, I could have sworn there was an angelic concourse directly above the choir. But, even that doesn’t adequately describe it.

I would suggest a 4th of July performance or ANY performance where The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square (with the orchestra) sings "The Battle Hymn of The Republic"! I was privileged to hear them sing "The Battle Hymn of The Republic" with the orchestra AND the United State Marine Corps Herald Trumpet Band when Utah celebrated their statehood centennial back in 1996. It is STILL the PINNACLE of musical performances that I've witnessed in my almost 70 years on this planet, and I've seen some AMAZING musical performances! You just can't go wrong with The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square! Bonus: Salt Lake City is BEAUTIFUL!

that particular arrangement was written by the director, Mack Wilberg. Just beautiful. You’re so right when you said “Glorious”. Glory be to God is what comes through this music. You’re also right when you said the technical is so right on… but beyond that (or because of that?) There is an emotional spirit that one feels they are actually touched by God. Your reaction to that music also moves me to feel that same Spirit of God in it. Thank you so much for sharing this.

The reason for it is that the prophet today asked us to distance from the name and encouraged us to take upon the name of Christ, but also because when you search up Mormon you might get some crap and stuff about the flds which is a different group and they still practice polygamy and there leader is in prison for child abuse.

They changed the name of the choir because We DO NOT worship the ancient Mormon prophet, named Mormon, BUT WE DO WORSHIP Jesus Christ, our Saviour who is the Saviour of the whole world --even for those that do not believe in him.
Many churches do NOT believe in any revelation to man since Christ died on the cross, not even in modern revelation, BUT because Jesus Christ was and is our own Resurrected and living God, and a very live person), he can, as he promised, to NOT LEAVE men on Earth helpless but would provide guidance in the Last Days, and what brought the world out of the Dark Ages was when he sent Spirits down from heaven to be born with God-given talents to inspire men through beautiful sacred music about Christ's life (like Handel's Messiah ; Haydn ; and Bach and many other similar composers) AFTER inspired men like the priest Martin Luther who went against the Catholic Church and translated the Bible from Latin to German and English, feeling and that the common man should be able to read for themselves the truths from the scriptures, and went about to teach men and women about Jesus Christ and his Creation of the Universe and the World we live upon, the Creation of Man (his greatest continual creation), and the teachings of his Prophets of Old, and also the current Prophet and Twelve Apostles on the Earth today, now ! After people in Europe had been able to study the Bible and learn the above things, God and Christ knew that it was time to let those Europeans come to this land of America that the Almighty had preserved for the Restoration of His Gospel that he promised would happen in the Last Days, who Joseph of Egypt prophesied would be by a man named Joseph, named after him, and whose father also would be so named Joseph, and he, Joseph Smith Jr. was a descendent of the first believers of the Bible in Europe, and of the Europeans settlers who came to America for the grand freedom to worship the great Almighty God, Jesus Christ without tyrranical persecution. Because of this, having been taught from the Bible about God the Father, and Jesus Christ, when he reached the age of a young teen and he inquired of God through prayer if the teachings of the Bible were true, the God Almighties both appeared to him, Joseph Smith Jr., introducing themselves to he whom they had called in the Pre-Existance to be 'the First Prophet' of this 'The Dispensation of the Fullness of Times', and to translate the Gold Plates into what is called by Christ, the 'Book of the Gentiles', or the 'Book of Mormon', which he said in the New Testament would also testify of him -- and is 'A Companion Book' to what Christ called the 'Book of the Jews', or which we know now as, and is the Bible (both the Old and New Testaments combined into one book).

    • @CarolDHarding-fp5eg
      @CarolDHarding-fp5eg 3 дня назад

Correcting my mistake that the Prophet Mormon, was an ancient Nephite Prophet of God, who the Book of Mormon was named after (but should maybe have been named after his son, Moroni, who had buried the Gold Plates in the hill where he, Moroni, as the last living Nephite Prophet on this American Continent, was then allowed by Christ Jesus to show Joseph Smith Jr., where, then, as a Resurrected Being, and the Angel Moroni, showed him where he had buried the Gold Plates that he had kept safe, and written his final words upon, before he had buried them back then in his day in the Hill named Cumorah, for a future time, as commanded by God and Christ to do for their Future purposes, and which he willingly obeyed).

This is my first time to see one of your videos. You couldn't pick a better subject than the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and this specific song. This is a new arrangement of Oh Holy Night that I have ever heard and it is just stunning. I remember years ago watching the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Sunday morning broadcast and the music from the choir and orchestra was overwhelming. I have sung in choirs from elementary through college and church and amazed by the power music has. I think about the sound engineers for the Mormon Tabernacle and listening Sunday to Sunday and not be overwhelmed by the sound and how it feeds to soul and swell up inside. I would think they would keep kleenex close by for the tears. Thank you for your post and hope to see more.

Love The Tabernacle Choir! The harmonies started getting to me right off the bat. YUMMY! Watching and listening to them always takes me back to my own school, community, and church choir days. I miss them so much! In high school, I was always in the honor choirs and bands, so I got to travel to either Anchorage or Fairbanks--whichever larger town was hosting the big event (which was combined for the honor choirs and bands) for that year. Going to those and being in both parts was always REALLY fun, but, wow!!! Hard to keep up with the full week's worth of music on both fronts. I would go back and do it again, ANY DAY! Our Valdez, Alaska school was quite tiny, at the time (not as much these days, from what I've seen in my brother's photos). My graduating class was 13 people (I was the Valedictorian). My brother Gary's (the photographer) class was 36 people...the largest class in our entire system at the time.We were both in all of the choirs and pep bands, and all of that stuff. In later years, my other (younger-younger) brother, and my sister were both in the bands and choirs, as well. It's just what our family has always done! As a community, we always did either The Messiah or just a program of special Christmas songs that most everyone knew. We also had people from different parts of the world, who brought their Christmas songs with them, so sometimes we got to learn some of those, as well.
I'm right with you, about the music. I can NEVER get enough of it, whether I'm singing, playing, or just listening. Music just slides through me.
Thank you VERY much, Carlos. That was a SUPER GREAT reaction. 😀

The building(s) where they usually perform in SLC both enhance the performance. The organs are majestic. This performance was held in what is known as the Conference Center. It seats approx 22,000 people but when the choir sings it almost feels like a private performance. The other building is the historic Tabernacle building which only seats somewhere between 3,000 to 5,000 (a tight squeeze). Put it on your bucket list to hear them live someday. Whatever they sing is glorious!

If you were 'baptized' a member, and have NOT been excommunicated, then you are still considered by and called Christ's own, even though you might not now be active in the church, but (we) can always repent, and strive to go 'to be gathered' in His, 'Jesus Christ's name' -- in Sacrament Meeting (one hour long) and classes (meetings now are only two hours long, combined, since the Covid problem). :-)

Am even older than you Anne, by twenty years, and have listened to the choir on Sundays (EACH) every few hours on BYU-FM or 89.1 FM, the last few years, at 9:30 A.M.. They also have that broadcast time the half hoyr before General Conference the first Sundays of April and October, which helps get one in the mood and spiritually ready to receive messages from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through his current ageless 99 year old Prophet, Pres. Russell M Nelson, and the Twelve Apostles, and other General Authorities who are called by Christ to teach us all around the world of his, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in and of it's fullness ! :-)

Am sorry, for the mistake in the age of our Prophet, for he, our Prophet, just had his new birthday, this past week, and he is now 100 years old now. He is now the longest living prophet of Christ's (since Joseph Smith Jr.) -- whom, he has been allowed to live the longest in this 'Dispensation of the Fullness of Times', maybe because of Pres. (it has to be called a church 'corporation', i believe, because of our American, U.S. Constitution) Nelson's willingness to Do the Lord's bidding, and maybe because the Lord knows and can trust him to follow his words, or his, Christ's commandments for us. :-)

This is one of my favorite carols, and I infinitely prefer it sung like this, with depth and a feeling of joy. A lot of the modern versions are fine, in their own way, but none of them give me the same feeling. Probably because this is what Christmas in my childhood sounded like, and I loved Christmas as a child. Though I’ve abandoned religion and don’t celebrate Christmas any more, I still love hearing the carols.

If you like this version, you should hear the one with the Kings Singers singing with them.

Beautiful reaction Viking! I feel the same as you. I’m crying like a baby. Christmas music always brings me to tears. So much emotion. Lyrics as well as orchestration. It always gets me! Merry Christmas!🎄

Viking, I completely understand your strong emotions when hearing this. I'm a 69 year old male, was in a choir as a young boy and have always had strong emotions and tears when listening to music. The only difference between you and me is I wouldn't even be able to talk! I'd also need a box of tissues at my side. You are not alone my friend, I cry along with you. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Love your reactions.

You need to invest in a trip to Temple Square in Salt Lake City and listen to the choir live.

Choir members are all volunteers and can be inchoir for 20 years or retire at age of sixty. Same goes for orchestra

Yes, the solo versions are amazing, but there is nothing quite like a full choir with orchestra. Just majestic and so classic. Merry Christmas Viking!
